I don't hear him on it. 5 song EP is a very pleasant surprise, Avey previously said the Dreams cover was the only unreleased song from the sessions.

I'd imagine the EP is just Avey. He likely asked Noah to drum on the tracks he wound up keeping for the album only

I saw someone guess that the EP are "demos" that Avey did himself and didn't end up doing or redoing with Panda. Time will tell but right now that feels like a pretty good guess.

Hope you vinyl lovers have two turntables each because it looks like Everyone Whistling and La Rapet are separated from each other, again. Lol

Avey's voice has kind of a Tiny Tim timbre to it on Untitled #1

lyrics!!!!!! after all these years not knowing them, never thought we ever would, wooooww
cool bits we can see from that pic:
"...find a name, face a faceless age, gasp at night at your window pane, isolate from 100 friends..."
"when april passes by, she thinks of playing Bach" (never would have guessed that one)
"in autumn Goodbye Leaves and December hello frost"

An An Angel is a demo for La Rapet I assume??
Kind of wish we could have heard a Deakin remix of the album itself but I get why it would be a riskier move, and probably not worth the time and effort to include both a remix and a remaster

Wow, amazing news. I have a new lease on Chocolate Girl with the remaster. Many little aspects of the song sound much brighter, especially the piano. Also Untitled is fantastic, I’m so often amazed at the immediacy of Avey’s melodies and how easily I get obsessed with them.

i've suspected for years that the actual lyric is "she thinks of playing bach" feeling vindicated as hell lol. i feel like before all the lyric sites get updated with the official lyrics we should make moves to preserve the lovingly mis-transcribed fan lyrics we've been referring to all these years, they feel just as canon as the real ones
also "A Night at Mr. Raindrop's Holistic Supermarket" is a sun city girls ass name lol. i've always thought that the influence of 90s experimental slacker rock on AC's music is a bit buried, but that title definitely feels like a rare early-on example of clear emulation (that and avey singing like stephen malkmus on stgstv)

Untitled #1 should open a back door in all of our minds. I want to say this is how ALL the Sprit demos that Dave took to Noah sounded like this, and that explains the drum machine, but then do the other synths really sound like Spirit roland synths? This kinda has a whole different vibe.
Insane tho. I can see the melody being similar to some Spirit melodies for sure, I mean its almost Alvin Row-ish. But on first listen I could barely hear that its Avey. I fully hear it now, its just combo of weird register and recording quality/filter maybe but wow.
That's nuts, i can't picture any of the rest of the EP when its not a Spirit demo/version. What a wild revelation

Yeah I was thinking that untitled #1 kinda reminded me of the last section of Alvin Row. Hoping Noah shows up on at least some of this bonus EP, tho probably not likely. This is all pretty insane tho, can't wait for official lyrics. Dave's writing was so fucking good around this era.

loving untitled #1 so much fuck. i guess it's not as accomplished of a composition as the songs that made up spirit, but it vibrates in the same vital way. it's also, like, incredibly fucking sad jesus christ. maybe more emotionally raw than any animal collective song

so dreams really is a fleetwood mac cover? I thought that was a joke at first. Now I'm imagining it and avey's voice is a pretty great match for the song

I was hoping it might be a Cranberries cover. Oh well.

untitled #1
instrumentally, I want to say tomorrow never knows meets eurodance meets enya meets avey tare meets keyboard drum machine? hahaha. and the noise blast freakout at the end, oh my god.
vocally just so intense. interesting to hear him so early on finding his voice, his singing feels like an amalgamation of a lot of 90s alternative influences (someone mentioned NMH, early arcade fire - my knowledge is pretty limited in this area but it feels right). the avey we know now is mostly there but it doesn't always quite peek through. All that aside, the vocal performance is so anguished and kind of angry/sad. Makes sense coming from basically a teenager who clearly had very intense emotional experiences. The lyrics themselves I'm not ready to unpack

strongly suspect he'll play Untitled #1 on this tour. Sounds like his latest live solo stuff.
I suspect he'll do a Spirit song on an average level, but strongly hope for one

gotta say i'm surprised they kept everyone whistling and la rapet split up. i always thought of them as one song. that lyrics sheet looks delicious

The lyrics sheet is the most exciting part for me. I’d love the same treatment for Danse. seems a lot less likely because of the albums reputation, but it would be really exciting to have a remaster of it with lyrics

Hope to god this thing ends up in my Brissy record stores. Can never afford the bloody Domino price/shipping.

they're clearly getting a lot more comfortable with treating their back catalog in a straightforwardly retrospective way, so i wouldn't doubt we'll get similar treatments of other records down the road

i mean in terms of where they are on the vinyl. i'd have kept them together on the same side because of how strongly everyone whistling segues into la rapet. instead they're spread across two records. i know that's how the original vinyl is too, i was just hoping they'd squeeze 'em back together in the sequencing for this remaster

They are usually good for it, but maybe this is a good idea actually. Thanks.

No one could guessed new spirit songs/EP in '23. Chocolate girl single with amazing b side. The existence of this EP is a huge twist
Avey is so deranged on this. Incredible. And if this is out early May then drop the goddamn Skiffs 2 single in June on the tail of all the re-reviews of Spirit proclaiming it as genius all along
"..left by lovers yEARs ago"
wow young avey

Only the singing and lyrics seem totally like 2000 era to me. The beat itself makes me think of a bizarre 2004ish loosie like um. Whatido or what is that song called fuck . I GUESS I hear Roland on this
I mean honestly what the fuck, I feel like we should be rioting over this, why is the beat like motorik and that weird bass synth thing. It definitely doesn't really fit on Spirit. Spirit EP? Maybe. And I guess that's how the EPs always are
