I had a dream that they announced the album and the first single was a re-recording of infant dressing table

April announcement, July 4th release.
In april we will get Stride Rite
in June we will get either Broke or Gem
in July on the day it drops they'll either give us Magicians OR Defeat lyric video.
It will receive mostly 9s and critics will latch onto a narrative of like: They were just warming up with Time Skiffs and now they have re-arrived as indie psych elder elites
its called something like. Circling Clouds or like. Star Sea Galaxy Deluxe

was that actually the wait between Skiffs announcement and Feb release. October? Fuck that sounds right jesus. What is Domino doing. How does that help sales or promotion tf.
Other than that, what are the arguments against it being announced in the next 2-3 months and dropping late summer/early fall? Other than reasonable pessimism and realism.
Like whats blocking it at this point, both Panda AND Avey had their lil mini cycles, I don't get the feeling Deak is doing one rn, like cmon.
lastly: has Domino ever shadow-dropped something? (surprise release/announcement). I swear to you Domino, that'd get more attention than a cycle if you do it the right way.

1) There's no way they're gonna hitch the release to a tour that won't happen in 2023
2) There's no way this doesn't come out this year
I see them doing a semi-surprise release a-la Eucalyptus

I’ve heard some rumblings of them potentially touring again in the late summer/early fall (after Avey and panda/sb’s tours wrap up) so I could see a drop around then (fingers crossed)
Also i think deakin recently mentioned that he hasn’t started recording his album yet but hopes to this year, followed by a solo tour

They basically started announcing a second album in the press cycle before Skiffs had been released so I'd say it's more of an 18 month wait at least.

His solo tour wraps in May right. Good god I would love if they just strait up did another summer tour. Same fucking places (sorry Europe). But yeah obviously it should rightfully be in Europe... Summers long tho, and I've almost financially recovered from how hard i went on seeing them 42 times last year

If this tour does happen then I really hope they can find time to start writing new material/kick off a new era. Loved last year's shows, but it feels like they've been in Skiffs land forever.

I'd put money on the next time they play live, it will be an ass load of new material. The question is do they change up the instrumental set up they were doing or not. I think they might not majorly at least, but who knows.

in the podcast Avey did a few days ago he said the first thing they discuss as a band when writing new material is what the pallet is going to be and what instruments they're interested in playing.
i'd gotta think a new set of material would mean new set up too. they like to keep it fresh and they've been doing the Avey=bass, Deak=keys, etc. thing for a minute now. my money is all in on new set up, and playing tons of new songs and also new arrangements for their back catalog, new album included

even though we knew this it's still good to hear. just getting positive affirmation once in awhile is nice, right?

Shit well that makes me very glad I caught them multiple times during that era cuz fuck I love that set-up and part of my basic ass almost wants to stay that way for um. forever(?)
I'm almost not creative enough to think of what else there is, esp when they changed it up to have avey (OR panda on Soul) change it up with guitar.
And I don't see Geo not essentially staying on samplers and keyboards, but I guess he could step away from as much keys and focus on sounds or even take over bass (pedals) so Avey can do.... more guitar or sumn. Dual guitar shit? That'd kinda just be Feels.
Panda getting off the drums for most or all songs would be the biggest change-up I can imagine.

a lot of times the line up changes (Deak leaving) necessitated the live set up shifts, or it was just gear changes...different kinds of guitars, drums, keys, samplers
small shifts like Panda went from sit-down kit in Feels era to standing kit + samplers for SJ, obviously them ditching instruments for MPP was the biggest one... Painting With again had a lot more samplers, synths and they brought Jeremy in to drum...
what's fun about this era is that Deak has been around for the longest stretch of time without leaving since the mid 2000s? so we are in uncharted territory i think for how they might decide to switch it up, but i gotta think they'll have something new up their sleeves

weird i remember as both sitting and standing during Feels..?
I wonder if they could go for something where like, they ALL can do basically everything. Everyone has at least one keyboard, guitar (not geo), drum kit or standing set up/drum machine and hell samplers for all too. Multiple opportunities for bass.
Kinda like the stage was a mini diorama of like a studio
also dammit i keep posting about new Avey album on accident in here

Avey specifically mentioned how they feel like things getting stagnant in that FaceCulture interview, so I can see an instrumental change up on the horizon. An interesting setup for the four-piece could involve panda on the guitar

Panda on guitar, Avey on bass, Deak on keays, Geo on knobs .....Jeremy on drums

Jeremy brought pretty sick energy and a huge sound on the PW tour so honestly I’d be down. I think avey should go back to keys tho

oh i like this, how about Geo's knobs being SOLELY percussive based sounds, making him essentially the time keeper/drummer... he's the wildcard and could play any part in the band really with what sounds he's triggering/ manipulating/ working with

hm never really thought of Geo taking over for percussion, maybe even just manipulating samples of recordings of panda or whoever even, if not drum machines

I do like Avey on bass for some reason. Also Deakin's been really good on keys. It's hard to imagine what could come next. Anyway, here's my setlist prediction, something like:
Magicians from Baltimore
Gem & I
Soul Capturer
Stride Right
Broke Zodiac
Genie's Open
Defeat
I could see leaving off one of Stride or Broke for a standalone single with Kings Walk as the B side.

cool list, meemo.
i keep forgetting about "Soul Capturer" as a potential album cut. that's always just felt like a one-off loosey to me so it'd be very interesting if they did end up finding a place for it on the record.
ending with Genie's and Defeat makes a ton of sense to me too, as does Magicians opening...

I want the order of Defeat and Genies flipped at the end. Ending with Defeat ends on a (beautiful) downer. Ending with Genies ends with optimism and light.

Would be sweet if they named the album something along the lines of "In a Sea of Light" to tie it further together with Skiffs.
Here's my pick for the tracklist though. Very unlikely sequence but it makes the most sense to me.
A1 King's Walk
A2 Magicians
B1 Gem & I
B2 Possible new song
B3 Stride Rite
C1 Defeat
D1 Broke Zodiac
D2 Genie's Open
D3 Soul Capturer

feel so hesitant to make tracklist predictions lol, still kinda bewildered by dragon slayer opening time skiffs, not to mention invisible darlings opening 7s. if they keep up the slightly inappropriate opener theme then either gem and i or broke zodiac would be it.
there's been a lot of speculation that defeat's gonna be a standalone ep/single release but that would necessitate it getting split between vinyl sides and i do question how they'd feel about that (unless it was a 12" single maybe). also leaving it off the album would leave them with less than 40 minutes of material left over, which is considerably shorter than any other record they've put out, tho i suppose there's the potential for totally new songs as well.
but then releasing all 8 songs together would end up being nearly an hour... maybe that's just what they'll do! unless there's at least a couple totally new songs there's not enough material for an album + an ep, and i have a feeling that non-album singles are a thing of the past for them at this point.

Why aren't any of the other music box tracks getting a look in? They certainly fit better than, say, Soul Capturer
