If you think that's bad homies laughed me out of the studio when I tried to slip a line about "bored ape NFT's" in Defeat, that's a wound that still smarts

I only listened two times so far, but I quite like 7s. I didn't expect such a heavy closer though, damn. Neurons is also an instant favorite for me, too. Kinda reminds me of the newest palm album (nicks and grazes, highly recommended). I'm not 100% sure but I think he might have sampled and pitched down a gentle giant song at the end of cloud:

Lips at Night is incredible, Avey sounds so grown up

“Cloud Stop Rest Start” as a phrase is insanely similar to “roadblock bus stop” phonetically. I wonder if that was a conscious choice?

It’s super trancy and yes envelops you like Visitng Friends. As soon as I heard it I was struck by how trancy it is. It almost forces you into a kind of stimulated haze. Almost felt like I was on some sort of drug as I listened to it walking to the shops today.

Really enjoying this so far. Last few tracks are fun. The Musical verse melodies remind me of Bright Eyes for some reason in some spots

has avey talked about the meaning of the album title?
i'm guessing it refers to the phrase "lucky 7s" but it'd be nice to get some confirmation from the source

Sweeper's Grin is completely captivating to me and I hope to trance to this during the upcoming tour. Cloud beat is reminiscent of radiohead to my ears. I always love moody Avey tunes, but damn can he write a killer pop song. This record is a nice package of both.

I just realised there are seven (7) songs on the album.

Threw it on for a listen while working this morning. "Sweeper's Grin" is an early favorite, saw someone here compare it to "Visiting Friends" and that feels spot on, good vibe. "Cloud Stop Rest Start" feels like a weird outlier, kind of reminiscent of Magicians, but also OPN, someone said Radiohead, idk. Avey records are always kind of dense for me on first listen and not immediate grabbers so I'm excited to sit with this for a bit before seeing him next month.

Looks like my theory of an early live version must be wrong. Still curious what this clip is if anyone's able to identify it

Cool record. Not blown away but Avey's solo stuff is always a grower for me - took me 12 years to "get" Down There. Cows was fairly immediate for me and got better, and I'd say on first listen I feel the same way about 7s. Wouldn't say there's any radical departure here except the closer, which certainly sounds like its own thing. Some other brief thoughts:
Invisible/Lips/Musical - this feels like a deliberate suite of jauntier stuff. Definitely heard Man of Oil in Lips (this was independent but just seen someone else said the same thing ha).
Bog/Grin - favourites for sure. Fit together very well and sort of sit on their own in the tracklist. Completely see the Visiting Friends comparison with SW and once again independently thought the same thing when listening. Can see these being the ones that stick around as favourites because there's more to dig into.
Neurons - like it but not sure what to make of it. Partly fits in with the opening three, partly is a new thing for him.
Cloud - not a massive fan on first listen but like I said, it's quite different and I might need some time to adjust.

I hear "wind slows, am I close" but it's hard to tell if that's what it is or what else he's saying

Yeah this album is definitely hitting. It reminds me a lot of his solo live material during his 2017 tours. Some of the best performances i've seen out the 20+ AC shows. Just him jamming with electric guitar, acoustic guitar, some delay, full sounding nice rhythms, lots of nice AC repetition and some A+ psychedelic vocals. Cows and its full band tour definitely didn't get me to that same zone and this definitely is. Super excited to see him.
Will be catching his Philly and Brooklyn shows, and probably will be selling some brand new AC bootleg t-shirts I designed, printed and tie-dyed. See yall out there

Cloud Stop Rest Start is the first ac song I’ve had to turn off halfway through on my first listen. What am I missing I really want to like this album but it’s just not hitting at all

I really like Cloud. All it really reminds me of is maybe Eucalyptus. Dare I say Spirit even idk. Rlly into the last 3 tracks. I do wish I somehow had the ability to hold off on this. It's like Lips is floating in this abyss of songs we got early, and then you have this last bit but hey that's on me

Like a really dark Amnesia outtake. Or something from the second disc of In Rainbows with dark Amnesia production (Down is the New Up / Up on the Ladder kinda thing).
Love Radiohead, love Avey, do not love whatever this is

Everyone just gushes on here when a new record comes out I like seeing people who are like "i think this sucks." Gotta have a good balance

I’m also just salty rn about Avey related things because I sold a big lot of my records and didn’t realize that I had left my copy of Pullhair Rubeye in the crate that I sold and now that record store is trying to sell it for $80 on discogs so maybe that colored my first listen

This is a fan site, of course our reactions will generally be positive when a new record comes out. Shutting off a song when the album is almost finished is wild to me

I also don’t want to be mr negativity or anything I genuinely want to/probably will like this album after a few more listens. AC have always been a grower band and I’m not gonna give up on 7s

Nothing wrong with having a negative reaction to this music, just cause we're fans doesn't mean everyone will love everything lol. Cloud Stop in particular feels destined to be polarizing, the synths are pretty discordant and the vocals kinda flirt with being this awkward, emo sort.of thing at certain moments. Overall I'm really enjoying this album, but to me it's strengths lie in the subtleties of the songs. I feel like it will open up eventually for more people. Also agree that it's totally a headphones album. Stellar production throughout.

"Generally positive." Ofc is someone doesn't like something, then they should feel free to say so. It would be boring if everyone liked the same thing. I'm not trying to sound like I'm trying to lecture anyone about anything, so nvm lol. I agree it's good to have a variety
I think maybe some ppl are just excited so they give the "benefit of the doubt" to the artist and don't mention the negatives right away. Or at least that's what I do. What I like is more interesting to me than what I don't like
