No obvious sign of Swannatopia or Genghis Cohen songs on here. However, this clip from Big Ears (March 2019) sounds like Sweeper's Grin! Someone let me know if you disagree cause it sounds similar (ooh oohs and rhythm) but slightly strays from Avey's stated timeline.

In yesterday's AMA, he said this:
wrote:
Hey bog was written for a couple live sets i did at the end of 2019. I Also wrote sweepers grin while practicing hey bog which is why they are next to each other on the album.

On the Big Ears setlist, someone put an unknown song with the note "kept repeating lines about people holding hands". Sounds like the Hey Bog bridge to me? I'm guessing he either played Hey Bog and Sweeper's Grin in March 2019 or maybe some work in progress blend of the two. No further sign of Hey Bog until the Birds tour in December 2019.

edit- I'm listening through a vpn so unfortunately don't have any files to pm

Love the Bee Gees blurb in that interview. I always associate "Stayin' Alive" with learning how to do chest compressions for CPR training. I was taught that the speed of the chest compressions should match the beat of "Stayin' Alive" or "Another one Bites the dust". I love "Stayin' Alive," it makes me feel sleazy and happy like Marcos Valle's Estrelar.

I think the dancy-est thing I've heard Avey make is the live version of Disc One. Excited to hear the rest of this record.

I feel like new AC albums blow me away on the first listen, whereas Avey solo albums always feel more subdued and subtle and take more time to grow into. this one's no different - I can tell it's solid and I'm really impressed by the sonic palette of songs like Sweeper's Grin and Neurons but nothing really floored me immediately

Out in Australia now! Loving it! On my 6 or 7 listen already

Here is a little review I whipped up for rate your music if anyone likes reading these sorts of things:
Spoiler: show
'7s' is another captivating rendering of the kaleidoscopic wonder that is Dave Portner’s musical mind. It’s yet another chapter in this enigmatic musical story - told across both Animal Collective and solo releases.

An undeniable purity and earnestness has always defined even Dave Portner and Animal Collective’s strangest moments. Their appeal lies in the unique friction between boundary pushing experimentalism and honest, joyful musical communion. On 7s, that purity and joy really shines through. Though, as always, Avey Tare furnishes the songs with the vast range of sonic wonders in his surreal, multi-coloured musical toolkit.

'Invisible Darlings' is pure smiling inducing psych pop. A super cute piano loop forms the backbone on which Dave builds layers of sonic candy.

'Lips at Night' is a mellow acoustic number (reminiscent of 'Man Of Oil') that combines Avey Tare's classic picking and chord patterns with his distinctive sense of melody and vocal layering.

'The Musical' has the same effervescent merriment that made the opener so appealing. Here Dave reflects on his career and the unusual occupation of 'making sounds and putting them together'. Another Dave Fourth Wall breaking song.

'Hey Bog' is a psychedelic epic that would have fit nicely on 'Cows...'. A long ambient intro leads to a ducking and weaving series of wonderful Avey melodies set over Indian influences and psychedelic, funky electronica.

'Sweeper's Grin' has a raga/trance feel that builds and repeats. Layers of vocals and a shuffling beat. Primal, simple, pure and engrossing.

Things take a bit of a turn on 'Neurons' - a dirty electronic track that recalls the scuzzy synth work of Black Moth Super Rainbow or Tobacco. A kind of sunny, spacey industrial feel. Quite unique for Avey Tare and a curious highlight.

Closer 'Cloud Stop Rest Start' continues these gnarly synth tones but uses them to create a sparse and unsettling piece of ambient pop to finish the album.

Overall, '7s' doesn't produce anything completely revelatory. However, it does reveal new corners for Dave Portner to explore and another unique perspective from which we can view and share in his art. He does a fantastic job of balancing the familiar with the new. His knack for melody with his itching need for sonic exploration.

'7s' is bright and inviting. It's an expression of mindful appreciation for life’s colour. Painted in the intuitive and spontaneous style that is Dave's trademark. And it's a wonderful record.

Love your descriptions of each tracks, incredibly concise review! Thanks for sharing! Only listened once so far, but I'm gonna return to listening obsessively once it's released "fully".

Sweeper's, Musical, and Bog are still my 3 stand outs from that listen on the bus today. That's an incredible string of tracks-- gonna be a lot of people's favorites.

I wish I had heard this all together honestly instead of already having a honeymoon period with the middle chunk but hey thats always the case.

This is sick beautiful stuff, its like more focuses yet more expansive than Cows. Way into it, probably top 3 solo Avey easily.

Neurons --> Cloud Rest is insane insane ending.

I will say Darlings is a chiller opening than I'm used to from Avey. But it and Musical are the only "jaunty" songs here. This is a emotionally deeper record than I was expecting. Comparisons to old songs are reductive, but Lips is for sure the sequel to Man of Oil sorta. But I love the variety. This is the um child of his other 4 LPs basically

If you're wondering if you'll ever be noticed

If you're worried that you'll be left behind

I've been trying to write a song that can't ignore you

My heart can bridge the distance that's between us

And your heart is my guiding light

(We'll meet there)
I'm crying. And yeah Neurons is wild

Yeah there are a lot of lyrics I can't quite make out on here, but the ones I can are really great. Darlings and Lips are both so unabashedly sweet, I'm a sucker for his "cornier" songs lol.

But Neurons is definitely my favorite on first listen. If this is a sign of things to come then fuxkig sign me up. Texturally kinda reminds me of Tender Buttons by Broadcast, but quite different in other ways. It's crazy how much that guitar? part sounds like brass. It's like the next level of that vague medieval feeling people associate with some Skiffs stuff. The middle section of Defeat would sound crazy produced like this.

I was kinda iffy on Sweeper's til the last minute or two I think. The bass is really great. And Cloud Stop is wild. Not sure what to make of it yet, but it definitely exists in that same spooky machine world that Neurons does.

Definitely the connection I made in my head too

Really like Hey Bog, Lips at Night, and Neurons so far but that’s just the immediate reaction.

Invisible Darlings feels like a Christmas song — in a good way, but mentally I just see like those little miniature Christmas villages when I hear that little piano part

I feel like if musically this mostly stays in modes that he and the fans are really familiar with (and really enjoy) lyrically I find it really engaging and intriguing. Feels very new, building off the best parts of Cows, Cherokee and Magicians of Baltimore w a really helping spoonful of David Berman

I think lyrically only the Musical is not doing much for me — I enjoy it but it’s very on the nose and I’m not super convinced that I like the reference to the Tenors lol — but I love the weird 80s computer funk of that song so it still works. The guitar solo part is like the pure aesthetic ideal of the caveman future rock that painting with tries to be

But this shit is good. Feels like a really great combination of his best stuff from 2016 on

Hey Bog is still so fucking good to me. The intro is that perfect kind of ambience that fades into the background of my mind and just sits there until it slowly envelops. I wish the transition to the guitar part was a little slower in all honesty. That’s like the only true criticism I have of the song — it needs to be like 12-13 minutes
