I really like Hey Bog, feels like an Avey melody I can fall in love with over time. Really like the atmosphere and dub techno sounds, feels a bit more like the original Mothlight sound. Very happy with this and would love more in this vein.

The Musical is decent but reminds me of the jauntier Cows/Bird/Slasher songs which isn't my favourite strand of his songwriting. Catchy though and I might enjoy it more as a brighter moment on the album.

wow, these are fucking amazing! i'm so beyond pumped for this record. we are in a second AC golden age for sure. this could end up being his greatest record if everything is this high quality. so, so happy.

After a few listens, I extremely like Hey Bog, it's opened up a lot, love all the textures and subtle instrumentation. Could be S-Rank Avey for me one day.

Yeah, heard The Musical first and was liking but almost luke warm so I'm glad he included the heavier Hey Bog. Gives me like Down There-meets-Mothlight a little, to be reductive

Given both a few listens now and I'm with everyone else I really like 'em. I like the lyrics, The Musical has kind of a Mount Eerie/Phil Elverum thing going on.

Fuck I just saw that Domino Mart has a special color vinyl and a poster for only $3 more than Bandcamp? Well that sucks I just noticed this now.

I messaged them and they cornpilled mine to order the limited edition one…it was 3$ cheaper than the bandcamp one for me.

thanks for mentioning the limited version. haven't listened yet but knowing their recent economic hurdles makes me want to pre-order everything.

Love all those intermittent samples in the last minute of The Musical, especially the parts that sound sort of like opera singers.

I am going to stay strong with my Bandcamp version as display of resistance against Domino for holding TS2 hostage. This is my Tiananmen Square.

I was curious about this too -- that leaves an average of 5:36 for the other tracks, which is great, hoping for plenty of breathing room on these tracks

Bought the record immediately. Can't wait for the opening track. Avey has had some epic openers for his solo albums. Not really feeling The Musical, but enjoyed the lyrics. The last minute was interesting. Hope it grows on me. The Bog is nice. That guitar and drum machine sound like classic live solo tours. The bass synth shredding is groovy. The intro reminds me of Ariel Kalma which is super cool.

Love both so much. Was grinning like a bastard after my first listen to The Musical. The way he sings the melody slowly at the end really hammered home how damn good it is.

Down There is my fav Avey solo album but I could see this coming close. Already blows Eucalyptus and Cows out of the water just based off these singles. Hey Bog especially, that is just an amazing song. Loved the boot so much and this really captures the emotion of that recording, something I def can't always say about their live to studio translations. Also the production on the bass is impeccable.

No real transition between these two tracks. But damn you can hear Hey Bog setting up Sweeper’s Grin - another 9-minute track that must be a beast with that set up and that title. Those two are gonna slap.

I wish the music change at ~5.40 in Hey Bog was delayed by another minute or two. I just can't get enough of 3.30 to 5.40. It's not often that I wish a 9-10 min song was longer, but this is one of those cases haha.

Yeah Sweeper's Grin has got to be a banger with that title/length.
Also I feel live I've been preconditioned to have demoitis at this point cause The Musical, while I do really like it (whoever compared it to Tipped in Hugs was right on) already kinda feels like one of those ac tracks that is amazing live and feels too restrained in the studio lol. Very excited for this upcoming tour.

Not as big a departure from Cows/Conference as I was expecting, The Musical is a real grower though. Feel more drawn back to that one than Hey Bog but I'm very looking forward to 7s

Musical has some really incredible synth flourishes in the background throughout the song, it is actually kind of mindblowing with good headphones. Can't wait to blast this in my car.

Oh yes, new avey solo stuff is always a welcome treat, especially with such a short waiting time until the album drops. The first singles are both top notch, each in the own special way. Also, the production is spot on!

Two great songs. I feel roughly the same about Hey Bog as I did KC Yours. Stoked with how it came out instrumentally but the lyric changes dampen it a bit for me. He's not singing about a robot though thankfully. Wild how different both songs are, could be a really varied record

Agree about the Hey Bog lyrics, oh well. Still can't get enough of that synth bass part.

Also, never heard of The Tenors before hearing The Musical but if you google em, their inclusion in the song is pretty funny. Pretty spot on reference for trying to get at the more commercial, "professional" side of music as opposed to just doing it for yourself or "playing for the trees". Such a great song, may like it more than HB now.

really love the pairing of these two as singles. both sides of the vibe coin.

the production might be the best on any Avey solo release. I almost get Duplex Trip vibes from The Musical. Hey Bog feels like a combination of every album that came before. that baseline is dirty. hyped for this record. :smoking:

I’m surprised I haven’t read any comparisons to bridge to quiet yet. I feel that the musical could totally fit on that ep.. definitely up there with Oliver Twist and Saturdays for me (but not quite laughing hieroglyphic)

This show att the Sleeping Village in Chicago totally reminds me of my favorite time of all times, the 2017 solo show at the Hideout. It was a small intimate show and ot was so special.i hope he comes to front after the show to spend a few mins with him at again. Last time I felt like both him and I were a little drunk to really have a convo haha I remember we were both drinking whiskey that night haha. I se him sipping on it during the show

Certainly love the comparison to Duplex Trip, one of the most underrated songs on Slasher Flicks to me. The duality makes me excited to see how he'll create something cohesive out of the whole album, collage style as the artwork and Time Skiffs and his overall structures in this era, definitely think it was intentional

Production and instrumentation of “The Musical” (bass guitar especially) makes me wonder if it’s an outtake of sorts from the Time Skiffs batch. “Hey Bog” would’ve fit perfectly alongside “Midnight Special” or “Uncle Donut.”
