huh?? lol, hoping this is a case of marketing making the trailer look like a totally different movie - the tiny snippet of AC sounds good tho

been trying to get some info about the music based on reviews... so far this is what i've found:
" Color saturations help tip off different variations of Ellis’ experiences, warm reds for the erotic stuff, flat greens and grays for drab military exercises. That they all feel of the same piece and the same story, even when Bratton makes literal jumps from scene to scene, speak to his persistence of vision. (Music by Animal Collective further binds the big swings, particularly in turning seemingly expected training montages into gritty, grinding performances that take on a truly fresh cast.)"

"There’s brutality but also an understated hint of poetry in the way Bratton tells his story from deep inside it, making beautiful use of Baltimore experimental pop group Animal Collective’s richly varied electronic score, which often plays in gentle counterpoint to the harshness of what’s unfolding."

some more:
"While Animal Collective’s haunting and unsettling score is thrillingly eclectic."
"Animal Collective delivers a strong score"
"Employing a massive, pumping musical score from Animal Collective, "The Inspection" wears you down"
+ some person on reddit:
"The movie was fine, nothing groundbreaking. The soundtrack tho was really good, reminded me of the Swiss Army Man soundtrack. It's very ODDSAC, one instrumental reminded me of Mr. fingers. There are a couple full singing songs, one with the boys and one during the credit which is a duet between Avery and a woman-it was really amazing, but they cut it short for the Q&A.
The score carried a lot of the emotional scenes and provided a lot of intensity during the boot camp stuff. A lot of the music was used during montages. Very dream blissfull stuff and a lot of very industrial sounding stuff that sounded straight from ODDSAC. One tune kinda reminded me of the Terminator theme if AC made it."

Quite a bizarre thing but great for them, hope it paid well and hope it gives them an avenue for later in their life and career.

asked deak about the song, he had this to say:
Noah sings some high harmonies in the chorus. . I’m low. Dave is middle. Noah is high. Once the lyrics drop out, it’s all me. Every voice all the way to the end. Dave wrote the song and the melody and made the rhythm, and the organ sounds. I played piano. Pretty certain brian did not add anything on this particular track. Tho overall he did a lot on the score.

definitely a surprising choice but one that I also like.
beautiful song. I think we should all make a point to see this film in theaters or rent it digitally.

I think as a film Crestone isn't too bad. Certainly a lot more interesting than The Inspection looks (based on trailers and what I've heard from people who have seen the film). I've seen films A LOTTTT worse than Crestone.

With regards to a physical release, Deakin said this:
"Hope so. Not sure atm."
Pretty sure atm means ass to mouth.

Tangerine Reef and Crestone get a lot of listens here. And I put them on when I'm in certain moods that otherwise wouldn't be go-to AC moods. So I'm grateful that they've extended their sound palette in these more ambient directions. Too early to tell if The Inspection soundtrack will be in line with the tenor of those two releases. But I think it's a cool mid-career swerve, especially because it hasn't slowed their other production (covid notwithstanding).

Thirty tracks on this thing:
https://consequence.net/2022/11/animal- ... tream/amp/
Obviously they’re not all gonna be full-fledged songs. But curious to see what the run time is.

“I wanted us to conjure the feeling of being strong but also showing vulnerability,” Animal Collective’s Avey Tare said of “Crucible.” “The desire to ask a community or a loved one to have your back and support you and the expectation that it will happen.”
Bratton said he enlisted the experimental band to compose the score for The Inspection in order to provide a sort of disorienting element to the film. “We were very inspired by the music of our composers Animal Collective,” the director explained in a statement. “We wanted to create the right rhythms to blur the line between what French thinks is real and what is really happening. So those fantasy sequences could serve as the evolution of French’s inner life. In essence, we wanted to create a sense of the stir craziness of the monotony of boot camp, juxtaposed with the massive transformation Ellis French undergoes. Animal Collective provides the perfect backdrop to shrink and expand the time according to the emotion.”
cool, this is a lot more involvement from the guys than I previously thought

"Crucible" is so good I'm shocked this thread isn't blowing up.... it's like a top 5 AC song since 2012.

Agreed. Especially when you consider how much we're talking about TS2 just finalizing songs we've known since 2019, this release seems pretty exciting and mysterious and fresh. It'll probably be more ambient and slow. But the quotes about the soundtrack providing context for psychic dissonance in the film suggests we'll get some edgy stuff. Also . . . "full-band album," no?

ya, the "thrillingly eclectic" bit is what's really getting me. it's not going to be JUST one thing... we're going to get a spectrum of AC sounds and even a few "pop" songs. i'm very excited for Friday.
