Easy to blame covid so let's just blame the dickheads at domino.

Think of it this way, domino have cost the band and us one album cycle that will never exist in this reality because they want money, some stupid tokens you exchange for a load of shit.

But its like 5 years old, and they’ve just toured all this material and I reckon they probably want to move on- solo Avey, Reset has come out, Panda had new tunes….
So if they go for a couple of EP’s they can be more lowkey and not have to go full promo and use next year for other things
BUT the big shame is that it’s some of their best and epic-est material

I think its pretty unlikely they will do another round of TS era songs touring. It's already been their longest era yet and I doubt they'd wanna repeat the same batch of songs after playing them for over 3 years.

At this point, with The Inspection and Rainbow Bog and Sinister Grift coming fast, I’d rather they finish TS2, stick it in a drawer somewhere, and start on the new full-band era with a late 2024 release of stuff we’ve never heard. Then they can surprise drop TS2 in a decade or so.

Nah I agree. I've already moved on. I hope they wait a really long time to release this album and then drop it one day as a surprise. It would be more powerful that way.

Yeah this is what i meant too, totally agree.... and this may make the release of the album a little tricky or anti-climatic for them sadly .....

Haha. I wear cords and work in accounting and even I don’t want it. I’m bored. A time skiff took me back to ‘81. Bo Derek is unreal in “Tarzan the Ape Man.” The Stones are killing it with “Tattoo You.” Reagan is a mensch.

it doesn’t really make sense to me why a band like anco would be on a label on domino and not on paw tracks or at least something in the same vein. would be so convenient. the longer it takes for it to come out the less tied to skiffs it’ll feel. this is the first time they’ve ever released two albums that are (presumably) so similar, which isn’t a bad thing but considering that pretty much every other subsequent release of theirs is wildly different than the last it would really piss me off if this doesnt come within a year of skiffs. really hope they do another tour with this material though, would love to see it live again. really dig the reworks they’ve been doing in that style too.

Personally, I find passive-aggressive exchanges on a niche forum dedicated to a single band extremely entertaining. But come come children, let's not fall out. I know we're all tense waiting for this record to release, but don't turn on each other.

ya, the pandemic has really screwed up AC's album trajectory. this will be the first time in awhile where they don't subvert their latest album with a totally different sound, but that's because TS + TS2 was supposed to be a double album, or at least a batch of songs recorded together.

i am super curious what kind of sound they'll shoot for AFTER the TS2 era... CHz to PW was pretty huge whiplash -- even MPP to CHz. TS felt like a homecoming after TR and PW... i wouldn't be surprised if they gave us some really challenging, noisy music after TS2.

Why does it not make sense? Half of ac have kids. Im sure Domino offers way more financial stability than self-releasing something, or going through some boutique label. If anything, i think it's kind of cool that AC can make whatever music they want to without interference from a major label. Album cycles are annoying as all hell but i feel like thats a tale as old as time. I think Domino is kind of a best case for a band like AC, they fall in the venn diagram of major label support but also free to record what they want.

Agree. It's probably a huge headache owning and operating a record label. This way they can just focus on making tunes and leave the "pros" to handle everything else. Likely the lesser of two evils or whatever

Pretty much this. The music industry is ruthless and they've found a good spot, tricky release dates be damned. I mean we got an AC album and a PB album this year already after Covid delays, etc. I know they've been touring the material for a while, and Domino is slow as hell, but like... c'mon. It's like 99.999% sure we're getting this next year, with new Avey to tide us over? Pretty rare for us to get two albums in consecutive years anyway, last time was over a decade ago if I'm correct (Oddsac).

Bottom line: Domino is bedfellows with Shitify and that's at the core (more than Covid) of what's wrong with all this. Domino got them on late night shows and how much of an audience did that gain them? Maybe they would've got a bump in fans if they did Grass on Letterman, I dunno

AC and Beck as label-mates. I could see it. Anybody but Mexican Summer.

AC is gonna need a break after this shit if they do anything together ever again. Hopefully things line up where they can get on Drag City or Warp but I have a sinking feeling they won't be prolific enough to strike a better deal than they have with Domino

AC on Drag City would make sense. I bet they have 2 or 3 more records with Domino.

Same! I've been a fan since 2005 and have been thru so many different changes of opinion on AC's music. Ark was an album that I never really "got." I used to only like the high energy songs from it, but during the pandemic all the longer songs really started to connect with me. Those songs unfurl in a slow gradual way that really makes me think of nature, like water eroding rock. I once saw this short film at the SF MoMA of a dead rabbit rotting and decomposing and then blooming into mushrooms. Some of the songs on Ark remind me of that as well. Beautiful music. Its in my top 5 AC releases for sure now.

then we get Genie's Open as a non-album single in 2025 because it was rejected from Red Dead Redemption 3

Closer to pulling Ariel Pink since it’s recorded and theyve done passes at mixing it. Even then The Key to Joy is Disobedience was available on Bandcamp for a weekend

i think there’s no doubt we’ll get it relatively soon. they probably just want to make it sound perfect, especially considering they weren’t super happy with the final mix of skiffs. id rather have to wait a little longer and get an album they’re truly proud of than get it sooner and have them be disappointed in it. i absolutely adore skiffs and i think this one will be even better and if it takes a little longer for them to feel satisfied with it then so be it, im just happy at the prospect of it coming out whenever it does

The persistence of this idea still confuses me. We know they didn't want to record TS from distance. But I still haven't seen anything to suggest that they don't like the final mix or production or have anything but warm feelings about the final product.

ur right i was misremembering. it was the actual recording process they didn’t like right i got it mixed (lol) up. i know the mixing is kind of a hot topic on here though.

personally i think it sounds fine but i feel like it does kinda lack some of the flourishes their other stuff does. thought it was so cool how they talked about how much the desert influenced the sound of sj and stuff like that. comparing skiffs to an album like that yea i can see why the mixing is so disliked
