They should just put the album out on a bunch of 7" flexies. The turnaround time would be swift and just

it's probably massive copium, but Pete talks about the one month between announcement and release as "our new model." it could mean he's just referring to this one instance, but could it at least mean Panda Bear's solo records will follow a similar timeline between announcement and release in the future?

anyway, i agree with the sentiment.

God I hope so. The PBvsGR and Buoys waits were brutal, and it's hard to hold off on not listening to the inevitable crappy freebirds

It’s kinda interesting how a lot of the TS1 songs were sped up (Passerby, Car Keys, WGB, Prester John, Royal, Walker) while a lot of the TS2 songs have been massively slowed down at some point (Kings, Defeat, Magicians, Gem and I, Broke, Stride Rite)

(Of course dragon slayer, Cherokee, and genies are the exceptions)

Anyone else convinced Genie's Open is gonna be the first track to the album? I can't make sense of the title otherwise and it'd certainly work as an opener even if my initial inclination was to think it'd make a great closer.

Though I'm not sure this sequencing will work with vinyl, I want Kings > Defeat > Genie's closing it down. Magicians still feels like the opener.

bet 'a variety of other things' includes the full music box show. they've said they plan to release that a number of times once all the studio versions are out so i'm expecting that not long after this record

I found what Dave said in this interview interesting:

http://playlist.worldcafe.org/world-caf ... ollective/

Mentioned they haven't decided if the unreleased songs would be a full album or not. Makes me wonder if they would prefer a couple EPs given the length of a few tracks.

Nice find. I mean...ya....it's a puzzle. There are so many ways these tunes could be configured into different releases.

Interesting to note Panda and Deakin talk about "the record" while Dave is less sure. Geo's always been such a huge "tracklist/sequencing has to be perfect" guy that I'm curious where he falls on the matter.

At any rate, this is definitely heading towards meta-verse territory where we're going to be discussing "in another world, the album would've looked like X..." for years to come.

Honestly think that might be the direction they take bc I'd be surprised if they'd wanna tour proper in 2023 (we know Domino would basically require it for an LP)

Sounds great to me.

Fov, totally agree. Although they're clearly unsure how to proceed, I don't see them locking into another album cycle of old songs.

as much as I truly think these songs deserve an album, knowing they're restless history I think you're right stan, I don't see them locking into another album cycle and I highly doubt they would tour this material again after this year if another album came out Q1/2 '23. a series of singles or EP's is most likely, That idea makes me hopeful that the wait won't be too terribly long for the recorded versions

fuck it... pull a Build Nothing out of Something/Louder than Bombs and just make a thick compilation. Hell you could track it as an LP as that way too...
Guess it might muck up the plans for a physical release tho

Season Ships (2023) [47 min]

1. Magicians 7:12
2. Broke Zodiac 3.57
3. Stride Rite 5:11
4. Soul Captor 4:06

5. Kings Walk 5:37
6. Defeat 17:23

Genies & Gems 12'' single, released kind of as promotional thing for the LP, as soon as like December

A. Genie's Open
B1. Gem & I
B2. Sundown w/ Cecil

Idk, I wonder if Genie's is the main song that isn't gelling. Its just as god tier as Magicians and Defeat but it does kinda seem unique... I mean really all 3 of those long songs kinda do, but idk where to put Genies on an album that starts with Magicians and ends with Defeat. I guess the middle but eh.

And then we've also wondered if the 2 chiller Panda songs (gem and broke) almost seem too light for an album with Defeat and Stride Rite and Kings.

Idk. Soul Captor is also kinda light and fun in a way, I think there's room for this album to be kinda upbeat a few times before Defeat makes everyone cry. It is a mystery... we're almost coming up on the anniversary of when we got the first clues to the opening tracks of Skiffs, maybe that'll happen again.

I like Enn Eyes' idea too... there is something about Genies, Magicians and Defeat. They're all a good bit longer than usual... the idea of just putting them all together with no other tracks does make sense on some level. I think they'll wait to start any promotional announcements til well after this Sonic/Panda thing and then maybe still.

Aw, Kings is perfect for an album. So moody and unique (at least for the past like 15 years)

And Soul Capturer does seem like a loosie, but it doesn't HAVE to be... i think the guitar tone is a little odd live like it always sounds kinda off lol, but I love the way the melody and lyrics have developed. I mean the lyrics r fantastic now.

My issue with it is is it really called Soul CapturER? That -ur-er ending is awkward. Why not Soul Captor like the anime Card Captor.

I bet this hasd already come up 7 times, but couldnt this come out sooner than the Jan/Feb-ish dates we've floated for a while, with some good reason based on the band's own comments?

I just think its weird cuz theyre like touring through this fall in europe and shit and like i kinda doubt they have many or any dates in '23 and dont labels like a band's touring to coincide with a release? So put it out in Nov or somethign so the euro dates still kinda count as Skiffs 2 promotion instead of late Skiffs 1 shit. Idk makes sense. Do it Domino u cowards

if they do manage to squeeze out some full band dates early '23 which seems doubtful given that solo cycles are swinging into action is THAT when we'd finally see a kinda whole new instrumental set up?

OR are they gonna stop shaking up the instrumental vibe going forward. At this point im just so used to Avey on bass. I mean all 3 songwriters have the option to pick up a guitar at any point so like, it kinda feels like the ultimate approach. They can do any vibe they want to. Maybe they'd want more samplers and moogs if they went techno dance party mode again i guess, but like, idk if they'd do that at this point yknow? Idk.

Keep Avey on bass and panda on drum kit maybe... dual synthesizers etc... with more guitar options... seems like endless possibilities with that set up but who knows

Deakin's leaning into the keys pretty hard - seems like that'll be a major feature of whatever comes next.

A friend of someone on discord said panda said a few things at the reset listening party

"In terms of specifics… he said defeat will be loved by the fans"
"That they recorded it in a great way.. without details. And this was off the back of me asking what his impression was of defeat when he first heard it

He said it has so many parts it was hard to get his head around it at first and didn’t say more than that the studio version will be exciting. And that it has changed a lot"

they said they asked Noah about some lyrics in Broke Zodiac and Noah explained the chorus
"The part in particular which I’m suddenly vague on sorry.. is about children being kept in detention centres on the border of America" (angels kept in cages)
