His cover of Bluish really helped push the song into the stratosphere for me.

It’s funny. When I first heard MPP it was just a few weeks after it was released and I just started getting into the band around that time. When I got to Bluish I couldn’t even believe what I was hearing. That song solidified what a beautiful and fulfilling album Merriweather is to me. I could float in that song forever.

Yeah same. For a while, to me, it felt like the emotional core of the album. It probably still does but I haven't listened to MPP front-to-back in a while. The chorus is sublime pop goodness injected with an AC syringe

The eurorack company 4MS released a new firmware and sample pack for one of their modules today, and Animal Collective are one of the artists featured in the pack. I think Geo uses this module and the samples are from the Crestone score. You can still download it even if you don't have the module, the download is under manual/firmware. I was surprised when I saw this posted on instagram, cool to hear some of the samples isolated.

Jon Rafman’s stuff is the first interesting application of AI I’ve seen, I think the art world should just give him the entire idea and consider everything else derivative

dude obviously felt guilt and then backtracked by dming the band to get affirmation in his stance or get permission to "surprise and delight" us. regardless of what ac says, he probably should reached out to the band before talking about it

there are definite misattributions and red herrings in the ascap stuff. this could either be a weird full band entry for PB "bonfire of the vanities", an early name for something that got registered under a different name (oddsac?), etc.
the work IDs aren't necessarily sequential i don't think. weirdly enough the closest song i can find is reverend green, which isn't in the same batch as some of the other SJ songs i checked. could be that some old stuff needed to be registered and got new IDs?

They did but don't think they register stuff to ASCAP just because they've performed it on radio or live, otherwise why From a Beach, Sea Lion, and What I Do should have been registered as well?

That's the only thing it could be though.
Maybe they registered it to differentiate between Panda's version and the full band version? They wouldn't have to do that with What I Do.
Sea Lion is just Seal Eyeing and there's no difference in writer credits between them.

^for sure. Ten years later and all the dissonance between chz and what I thought AC’s trajectory should’ve been has washed away, it’s such a fun bizarrely unique sound

We wrote like 18 songs, and in January 2020, we were making plans to go into the studio and record all of it, and when the pandemic happened, so we had to put everything on hold," Dibb explains. "So Time Skiffs ended up being just a batch of those songs we felt like we could record remotely since we couldn't see each other."
Dibb says the songs that didn't make it into Time Skiffs, plus a few newer additions, will find their way onto a new album or EP sometime next year — this time recorded in a studio.
"We're kind of audiophile weirdos, so we wanted to record this all straight to tape, very analog," he adds. The band worked with Grammy-winning music engineer Russell Elevado, known for his dedication to analog and work with R&B artist D'Angelo.
"At this point, we're focused on continuing playing these songs, loving them, and waiting for this new record to come out," Dibb says. "I know everyone's also switched a little bit into thinking about solo music."

Extraordinary interview. Love to see Deak touch on the band’s peaks and valleys and insistence on not playing the hits. Plus a RESET mention! Hopefully they’ll get the record straightened out ASAP

Hell yeah. Russell Elevado is an analog purist who's made some of my favorite jams from late '90s / early '00s underground hip hop (The Roots, Talib, Common). Rich sound yet warm. I think he did the latest Kiefer record, too. He's exactly who I'd want to record the TS2 jams.

You can hear clips of Noah playing Magicians and Gemini here. Looks a CS-80(?) and a Mellotron will be on the record??

Tasty drum sound. Glad to see it looks like they’re adding a lot of extra stuff. Imagine defeat with mellotron

Russel Elevado engineered D'Angelo's stuff. That is so sick he's recording AC's next album

another bit that makes it sound like they recorded at least one unheard track, as soul capturer is the only post-2019 jam that we know of

Too damn short, for how maximal they were going should've had all the songs on it

I can't tell you how excited it makes me to hear that AC worked with Russ Elevado on TS2. D'Angelo is one of my all-time top-tier favorite artists, and if AC taps into the same smoky, groovy magic that D'Angelo and Russ found for Voodoo I might die with happiness.
Either way, Russ is a vibe-master and totally respects the artists he works with (from what I can tell). This is such such good news.

Russ’s hashtags included “#noplugins” on the AC instagram post which delights me to no end. This will undoubtedly produce creative mixing techniques!

Man lots to digest from this tiny bit of info. I can't say I am super familiar with Russel but reading up on his process has me more excited than I was about Skiffs. I know Josh has been pretty into a lot of digital recording stuff and dropped specific plug-ins he's used on his and Dave's solo stuff so doing something fully analog feels like kind of new ground for them especially with how they've worked in the last decade.
Now I just have to stop myself from thinking about the lost all analog live recorded double LP of my dreams that we will never get.
