We used some samples of people who are not so easy to deal with. It has been a lengthy process. We used samples from people like The Everly Brothers and The Drifters, little loops over which we recorded the record.

[The samples] are horribly expensive. They take a big chunk of the profits, it's completely disproportionate. But the record was born from a conversation with Noah [Lennox, aka Panda Bear] and from an idea of mine that was to take the beginnings of some amazing songs, the ones where you hear the first chords and you know they're going to be fantastic, and loop for upon which we built the songs. I sent him these loops and he started writing amazing stuff. Lyrically, it's his best work. And even the singing and writing of the songs is very special, very refined and different. Perhaps they are the most traditional things he has ever done.

Of course it's Panda Bear, so it's never going to be completely traditional [laughs]. But we sang the two together. I've always loved doo-wop and that kind of music where the most important thing is the voices and a little percussion, some clapping or something. We wanted to make a record like this, with super good vibes, reminiscent of Jamaican ska and rocksteady music, around 65, 66, 67, which was born in a messed up social and political context, but had great vibes. Of course, despite all these references, it's still my and Panda Bear's record, and it sounds like us. It's really good. I've shown it to 40 or 50 people and the reactions have always been amazing. Which was what we wanted.

also confirms Reset will be released as "Panda Bear & Sonic Boom"

What's this? Sonic boom has evolved into Sonic Boom 2022!

Record sounds amazing based on that interview. "Lyrically, it's his best work" is quite the statement

as someone who considers Person Pitch to be one of the 10 greatest albums of all time (and Perfect Prescription the best album of the 80s), this sounds like a dream album to me

summery?
positive vibes?
sample-based?
two legends collaborating?
some of noah's best lyrics yet?
everyone who's heard it thinks it's amazing?

we're in for a classic, confirmed

Thanks for dropping by Pete, always a pleasure to have you around here.

Also this may have already been determined, but I can't recall: has it been confirmed that Love of my life/Danger is the only song from the Madrid set that will also be on Reset?

Another Q about Danger, if you’d be willing to share, Pete: someone noted the melodic similarity between Danger and Little Joy’s Keep Me in Mind. Is it an interpolation? Sounds like a great candidate for some doo-wop vibe

Psyched yr psyched too .....
Yes . Danger (love of my life) is super present .. a favourite of mine too
It’s interpolated with the Everly bros only . But that major to minor chord thing ....for sure has it’s own scale .
Not all the songs have samples in - About half of them .
Take it easy out there please. xp

Summery Panda Bear is my favourite Panda Bear!! (Though I love his sadder songs a lot too), Sonic would you say this could be a Person Pitch 2.0 what with the samples and summery vibe? Or is it its own thing? Thanks!

it’s it’s own thing . Person Pitch is totally unique . It’s connected for sure via the sample beds , but this record has a lot of percussion too & vocal contrast . Latin heat , passion & a sort of sci-fi propulsion . Our plan was always to donate to sociological wellness in any way we could thru this record & I think we got super lucky .... we’re both itching to drop it ....

If anything is as good as Step By Step, we'll be the luckiest bastards in town. My favourite PB anything since live Greaper is that little reworked live Token chug. Something about the chord changes and falsetto just skewers me. I hope this brings a little of the live expression and roughness. All the best to the lads.

I love everything I am hearing about this. Panda Bear's solo stuff is the best to me, and Greaper is right up there at the top, many thanks to Mr. B00m. I could not stop listening to the Madrid boot when we got that. I loved Time Skiffs but I can't pretend that I might be more excited for this. Between this and SxS it's the Summer of Panda.

Really psyched that the collaboration between you two has kept on. I was coincidentally listening to Greaper this morning and still love how that one came out. As a producer I appreciate how much y'all made a bunch of canned loops and samples sound so dynamic. No small feat outside of a live environment. I'm currently experimenting with re-amping and mic techniques to give my synths space.

New stuff sounds like oldies and I'm in to it. Keep up the good work.

I had a dream I was late to a launch show for this album. It was in an old community hall and Pete and noah would move to different rooms to play different songs. One song was noah on the kit and Bono showed up to sing. Noah was dressed like 80s roy orbison with a leather jacket

Hey there
Yeah , Smells like 1950s tastes like 2050s ...
part relay pumping pinball , part ‘Humper’ style video game .. i think if u like a little ‘oldies’ it’ll be 3 steps to heaven ...
people say it doesn’t really sound like anything else tho’....lotta guiro , castanets ...groove percussion ...hand clap double dutch vibes ..elektro flashes ...dub bass moves ...ice popsicle synths...
....equally at home in the playground hop-scotching as at the party , hanging w the homies ...

There’s a third snippet at the start of the Cosmos Benefit show ad on the 2020sonicboom2020 IG page .....very short & very suite .....

Noah as the big ‘O’ ? Interesting ..... might be something in that ....me as Bono ? ....well meaning buffoon ? I’ll take it ! I would never graffiti Red Rocks tho ...or think everyone needed my LP rammed on their phone ....but anyone who wrote ‘with or without you ‘ or ‘just have’nt found what i’m looking for’ is blanket invited to my parties !

Take it easy out there please Om brays , even Charlie dont surf alone ! xpk
