Back to the gear thing I remember being p surprised they upgraded to SP505s for the 2008 shows. When they do get new gear it seems like they really commit (monomachine). That drum/sampler PB used for ma fama show did he give that to Deakin?

:o :) ;)

Painting With The Painters
as a whole can be experienced as a beautifully multidimensional expression about how to allow the truth to blossom in new ways from within a very altered version of earthly life;
of course so also are basically all of the albums in their own ways!!

class is an example of a situation that isn't supposed to still exist; there is a phenomenological lag between what human beings are psychologically capable of, and what is actually physically possible due to all of the moving parts that need resolution first or thereabouts (reminding me quite a lot of many songs from the album!!)

what's most important is if we can always learn to care for eachother more deeply;
which they have been helping so many people to do, by sharing their art, since the beginning!!

Seriously! Those abs and that voice! Definitely could've pulled off leading a boy band if he was born 10 years later.

Missed these, glad you guys agree

Spoiler: show
I think it's mostly his eyes/face though

Joey Bada$$ kinda reminds me of him/is also insanely hot

Avey's grandad made the bagel press then sold it off to get money as the family were immigrant bakers from Ukraine. They popularized the fucking bagel. Aveys apparently genius minded bread grandpa also made a device that created the fucking swirls on the top of the rolls I eat Bacon egg and cheese. I'm gonna beat my friends ass!!!

One of the most important foods to me. Not nonsense, just a bagel with butter. If made right it's so many things at once. Crunchy, crispy, soft, cushiony, just delicious. AC's music being just so whimsical makes complete sense now since its from the same source that gave us the fucking bagel!!! If i'm gassing up bagels I dont give a f*ck. I'm jersey girl!!!

I WISH butter was on option on a bagel, but as far as I've experienced, it does NOT seem to work even a little bit.

Cream cheese with chives or a fruity cream cheese like whipped strawberry flavor or something? Incredible. Cream cheese + honey?! Wowwwwww.

Had salmon and cream cheese bagel for my breakfast this morning. Really enjoyed it. Also had two thick Swedish yoghurt, strawberry flavour. Two cups of Joe. Had a turkey and cracked pepper roll for my lunch and a crisp Granny Smith apple which dissolved my teeth. Small lemon drizzle cake and cup of tea around 3pm. Now getting ready for nduja and mascarpone ravioli for dinner and a Weihenstephaner wheat beer.

Stories and Games wrote:

Example: what fundamentally made early hip hop exciting to people was that it was the artistic howl of the most underprivileged parts of the country. The music was just as much about what it represented as what it was aesthetically; you could reasonably argue that the distinction between those facets is impossible to accurately judge. That sort of cultural context can totally transcend how good you think a given record is in a vacuumโ€”what score you'd give it out of ten or what have youโ€”and that's entirely fine. It isn't obscuring some otherwise platonically pure evaluation of the music, because such a thing does not actually exist.

I want to come back to this statement because 1) it hasn't left my mind since I read it (not in a good way) and 2) I've been reading and consuming a lot of hip hop related materials lately (Dilla Time being one of them, the others elude me right now) and it's astounding they can describe how exciting and groundbreaking hip hop was when it started, and there is not even a FART of a hint of "it's exciting because people are poor" in any of these discussions. Which honestly renders the rest of your paragraph as lofty bullshit.

In terms of "cultural context", yes, one can listen to an early Public Enemy or Run DMC record in 2022 and be like "why the fuck was this critically acclaimed" because it sounds dated.... but that has nothing to do with their socioeconomic situation, and everything to do with the production sounding limited as fuck because they were using turntables, a mic, and 808 (Run DMC) or slamming together a shitload of James Brown samples (and obviously more than just JB) with archaic hardware, leading to an aesthetic that doesn't really jive with today's music.

in summation - you (Stories and Games) might find that hip hop has merit because the pioneers were poor. Normal people find that hip hop, the genre, has merit because it's you know, it's incredible on it's on accord. The first scenario makes me feel like I need to take a shower

but.... see like... I really disagree? Hip hop-- like the blues or often folk-- is (or at least initially was) coded as music made by downtrodden artists. Like I think that's just a thing, like I don't think its controversial or should be something that is "gross" to you (?)

Almost positive this guy talks about it in this vid about rap/drake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtBPXjEoW54

Like, I mean the literal lyrical subject matter of so much early rap is about materialism/socioeconomics and/or are related to financial stuff likethe drug game and stuff, things these artists were pressured to do before they were making money from their rapping. This isn't like a theory tho. So maybe I misunderstand the issue you are taking?

But we could fr keep talking about bagels/food

let me rephrase tho: no one likes early hip hop or thinks its important because its made my people who had grown up in poverty. But part of our appreciation includes an awareness of the socioeconomic background of the typical pioneers of this genre and its impossible to think about or enjoy hip hop outside of a deeper, richer context of social awareness, as we truly cannot hear it in a vacuum.

edit: so, around 24 min in that video, the guy is saying how rap was a uniquely black art form that uniquely belonged to black Americans in a way that rock or other genres never did (blues and jazz and rock sure start off being a mostly black art form too I guess) and was widely understood as a "way out" of bad financial conditions.

So I mean, I'm kind of forgetting what we're discussing but like. Ideas of class are unavoidable when examining early hip hop for a reason. And that's okay?

Maybe reread the post I've been commenting on. And possibly reread the comments I've made in this thread, because, what the fuck. I'm not going to retread everything I've already said.

As to the second paragraph/sentence in this quote, yes. that's ok. No one is saying otherwise. (not the bolded part - this thread is filled with a dozen different people having a half a dozen different conversations about the same theme [which is class and music] and it's creating this ridiculous environment).

Stan appears to enjoy the culinary life of a venetian merchant of fine fabrics or perhaps a cosmopolitan high level businessman-slash-sensualist

Butter on a bagel rocks, though the bagels I can get here probably don't compare to what goes on in the states

Love the unspecified "take out" even in a rundown of what you ate for the day
