Haven't heard time skiffs yet, but I'd really like to see a more concise record (relatively speaking) for TS2 in comparison to what you suggest, muark. The track list of this "sea of light" live compilation someone put together is absolutely perfect in my eyes:
Magicians
Gem and I
Stride right
Broke zodiac
Defeat
Sea of light
This is already around an hour of material and I'd rather have them stretch out the intros and outros than cram more songs into it. All the remaining songs could end up on an additional EP or as b-sides. Of course, I wouldn't mind another new song or two like strung with everything.

They had more than enough time to track everything back in December and I'd assume that was probably their goal. Maybe they still have some mixing/overdubs from music box musicians/whatever else but it would make no sense to me for them not to get most of it done back then.
I think the latest this SHOULD come out would be next Feb, a year after Skiffs but there's so many variables. Could be way off base but I can't really imagine the band wanting to stay put on this material as much as they like it. Hopefully the positive press for SKiffs can put some pressure on Domino to ramp this up.
The real thing that throws the timelines all off for me is the new Panda material and Panda/Sonic Boom collab. Feels like it could derail AC for a bit but who knows. Maybe we'll get a Deak/Geo/Avey tour while Noah and Pete do their own thing.

I’m too excited but I promised myself not to listen to the boots (I did once or twice 1/2 years ago). Did they recover Defeat? The last version I heard was with the fucking harpsichord and I was so pissed bec that MBV version with the woodwinds etc was probably my fav part of any music ever.

Yeah they've thankfully ditched the harpsichord parts, but the newest version doesn't have a ton in common with the music box version either. I think it's fucking great, big improvement from 2019 but it's a different vibe. Sort of spooky and understated.

Would the swirling woodwinds etc fit with the new vibe? Omg I need those.

Possibly? Idk I wouldn't go into it expecting a replication of the music box version cause it's definitely sort of morphed into a different thing. But it's very good still. Like in retrospect the 2019 harpsichord version feels like a clumsy midway point between the music box version and what we have now.

I haven't listened to a crazy amount of 2021 defeat, but if they could get it to work in Cherokee with the horns and such I think it's totally possible. It would certainly fit to have woodwinds in there somewhere.

Oh I think there's gonna be some real Music Box style instrumentation on studio Defeat. Pretty confident... they're gonna best out the works for it.
That middle section keeps growing on me. (from blast session)

Good lord studio magicians done EXACTLY like the SKiffs tracks will be life changing. Don't change a damn thing
Defeats got all this room to flourish and do different things with instrumentation, but Magicians is just ready to go

Does it still have that section at all (with diff instrumentation) or does that part not exist in the newer versions?

It still exists. I personally like it better than ever. Such a huge, Feels-y burst of energy. And the 2nd part of the middle with the sick baroque organ line is amazing (it's not a harpsichord)
Add the MB strings and boom

i know we just got time skiffs but it's fun to look ahead and think about where we are at. we know panda has a ton of solo jams, avey has a ton of solo jams, we know 8-9 songs from 2018-2021 that could end up on the next album, they recorded for 17 days in december in nyc, and a few days ago panda said they still have a bunch of stuff left to record! add that all together and the future is kind of opaque. love the mystery of what could be next....

The production on TS1 has me very confident and excited for Sea of Light and Defeat specifically.
Although I do wonder if Defeat would do better as an EP after TS2. I believe there are plenty of tracks none of us have heard.

Is it possible that we may have Whats on the Road on TS2? Deak did have demo made up. Im sorta hoping it makes the EP at least

Out of the loop here...is TS2 a confirmed thing?! Or is this all just speculation? Because i might just melt if there's a second album coming....

confirmed in the sense that they've spent some time (a couple of weeks around Christmas) recording a bunch of the new tracks (Defeat, Magicians, Genies etc.) that didn't quite work for Skiffs but are part of the same era.

I read that same interview and was kinda confused by PB comments of not recording as of yet bc I thought I had read or heard somewhere else that they had don some recording. So it makes me wonder when that interview actually took place? I was wondering if the interview happened before they did the recording but was planned on being released the week of the release of TS?

So defeat has gone thru 3 major (sorta major) changes so far and I'm so curious on this tour coming up if there'll be a 4th change to it? I aslo think that however it's played on this tour will end up being how it'll sound on record. Man, that song is driving me nuts as far as the anticipation of what the final version will sound like. And I know that they've said a few times now on how they like that songs change and grow and aren't stuck in time to just sound like how it did he first time playing it or whatever and I'm cool with that bc they've been consistent with doing that forever.

On one of the time blast radio broadcasts (pretty sure it was on week 4) I remember Deak saying that there were "no plans" in the immediate future to record Whats on the Road, and that maybe it was a solo endeavour but he didn't know.
At the same time he pretty much confirmed that Broke Zodiac, Gem & I, and Stride Rite were among the tracks being recorded "very soon". There are others songs he didn't single out specifically that would have been worked on in the December recording sessions as well, but the way he said there were no plans to record What's on the Road In the near future made it pretty clear to me that song wasn't one of the tracks being considered for TS2 at the current moment.
The demo he shared of it is pretty old also (from before the Music Box Village gigs in 2018) and the song hasn't been played since that time, so it does seem more like its one of the Music box village tracks that hasn't gotten too much attention from them post those shows.
I think this suspicion is probably reinforced by the fact they released Whats on the Road its Shining on the Live at Music Box Village sound desk recording they put out end of last year, while they omitted from the setlist of the release other tracks that would/will be recorded eventually (such as Down down down down which has already come out, and Magicians/Defeat, which I can't imagine them never releasing given their apparent enthusiasm for both songs).
To answer your question, of course it is possible for Whats on the Road to be on TS2, we don't even have a release date for it yet and lots can change we don't know about, but at the moment it seems unlikely.
Personally though I wouldn't mind if it ended up as a solo track like Deak suggested, I think it would suit the kind of sparseness of the song better.

KidEatsKeyboard's tracklist is so good. Would be absolutely blown away by an album with those 6 tracks.

So according to Deak they are currently working in Skiffs 2. I wonder if that means they finished recording and are doing post stuff or if they're still in the midst of writing. Damn, so much to consider lol.

This whole Time SKiffs 2 thing is giving me so much anxiety smh. What's defeat gonna sound like? Will defeat still have "eeyup"? Is it going to have the same mixing/production style as skiffs? What's it gonna be called? Will it continue the skiffs aesthetic or will that be completely overhauled? Will it be thematically/visually connected? Will it be connected in terms of release cycle to time skiffs? They've described it as a "sister album" does that just mean the songs came from the same core? Or is there more to it? Will there be anything we haven't heard ala Strung? bahh
