Yeah really enjoyed it for reasons stated. Thanks tuvin diesel for mentioning it here because I saw the article title and assumed it was just a write up about their catalogue being on bandcamp

Deakin made a great point about how journalists and reviewers don't talk about the lyrics as much as they should. very much enjoyed the breakdown of each album and the members' perspectives reflecting on them.

Uh workin on it. I like summarizing the interviews and got completely burnt out when Painting With came out because that shit was so annoying to sift through

Chiming in to say by the composite of all the snippets consider me officially on the STOKED-train... sounds like a less reverby Person Pitch meets All Things Being Equal Sonic Boom... "i" dissecting it has to, anyways.. ;p

digging through web archives while i'm stuck in isolation from my first bout with covid :negative:

surely there's no document of it, but it looks like AC did an on-air interview with chapel hill college radio when they played here in 2003:

WXYC 89.3 FM - in Chapel Hill and live on the Web at http://www.wxyc.org
Tune in on Wednesday, July 2 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. to hear a live
interview with NYC's Animal Collective, the spazz-drone-acid-electronic
experts preferred by woodland creatures and erudite critics everywhere!
Their new record "Here Comes The Indian" follows up a string of releases
under the names Avey Tar & Panda Bear and Campfire Songs, and it's
released in conjunction with Carpark Records. Labelmate Ogorusu Norihide
joins them on the air and in concert Wednesday at NIGHLIGHT.

Call Skylight/Nightlight (933-5550) for starting time (which'll supposedly
be late enough for you to check out Orchestra Baobab at the NC Museum of
Art in Raleigh and not miss a thing).

https://groups.google.com/g/alt.music.c ... LKVrX8GcUJ

this gig is on songkick but it's listed a day early

e: this is all firmly a generation (or at least half) ahead of my time but i'm proud to live somewhere with such an early group of music fans who are terminally online. does anyone know about any other newgroups/listservs for local music discussion in the early 00s?

not interview-related, but sticking these here because i kept digging around and i'm still somehow exhilarated at finding proof that the band existed back then:

playing with restiform bodies and zs in 2003 https://www.bayimproviser.com/EventView.aspx?e=2852 (same tour as chapel hill above; this is also the same tour that starts out the F side of crack box)

Image

and here's animal collective supporting wolf eyes in 2002, you can find a reference to this show(?) in an interview from 2009 where Geo mentions the wolf eyes expecting the "four cavemen" band when seeing a sung tongs duo set a year later (fovrodi is this interview missing? https://everysinglerevolution.blogspot. ... cable.html)

Don't think I've come across that one before! Sorry I've let this thread stagnate so bad, Painting With era really sapped my enthusiasm for keeping it up to date (broken record by now, every interview focused on three things from the press release).

Been meaning to find more info on AC's trip to Vancouver in 2004... was fun to find this -- even a little interview:

really admiring Avey's position as an artist rn. love that he's just homies with the local scene, jamming with them and elevating their work. would probably never have heard Superflowers amazing music if not for him.

can explore any direction he wants, solo or with his childhood friends, can go do a little club show solo tour whenever he wants with whoever wants to join him, has transcended any and all expectations. integrity and humility coming out his ears. love this man

Hehe, it really does though. WiFi is out I don’t mean to let these threads atrophy but that’s just how it is right now. Look forward to that
