Was there anything that just didn’t come together?
There’s another group of songs we saved for later – those were the songs we felt relied more on the performance dynamic. These were the songs we felt we could get going (remotely). A couple songs didn’t make it that ultimately we left off the record because we felt we didn’t totally nail. We’ll definitely get (those) done very soon. I don’t want to say when but there will definitely be recordings of those songs at some point.
I guess I just "know" it's not sax because you can make out words in it and it sounds akin to 2019 R&D

I'm taking stuff around 2:45 and on for a bit. I mean it actually fr just sounds like sax to me. But like ya idk.
And then deeper notes around 4:00. I mean it sounds nothing like Avey's other autotune parts.

Billboard interview got me thinking:
If they recorded for 17 days in studio and there's only a "couple songs they didn't feel they nailed yet", does anyone else think panda is being vague not bringing up anything about that? Makes me wonder if it's supposed to be more of a surprise, and he was alluding to a couple of ep songs-- they clearly had more than a couple of songs left... what if we got a surprise drop.......? iron is sweaty hot ....
Something about the “always passing” line Panda sings at the end of “Passer-by” that rubs me the wrong way. Lightens it up too much. Want it darker.

I think Deakin mentioned two songs they tried to record remotely for TS that didn't make it because they couldn't get them right, I bet that's what PB is talking about here. so those plus all the ones like Defeat and Magicians that they knew they couldn't do and didn't even try
for reference, here are the instruments played by each member on each song, according to the press kit for the album:
Spoiler: show

hmmmmm... this doesn't seem to clarify who is playing the sax
You started off with 70 minutes of material before you even gathered new ideas and started recording. And you ended up with a 47-minute album. How much material did you end up recording, and what got left off?
Lennox: Originally I feel like we had about two records worth of stuff to choose from before the pandemic hit. And then with the pandemic, we kind of had to choose songs that we felt like we could pull off remotely. So a lot of the times it was the more like rhythmic ones, the ones that didn’t have a bunch of kind of like loose ambient passages that relied more on like the performative dynamic between us.
Weitz: It just suffers. It’s not even necessarily just ambient stuff, but some parts kind of rely on like eye contact or just like feel like when everyone’s gonna kick in —
Lennox: Yeah, everybody kind of goes together. There were two or three [songs] we felt like we didn’t totally get right that we left off and will be on some future thing. We’ll get it done eventually. But we whittled down the edit that we made.
interesting to note that only Prester John and Passer-By specifically note field recordings -- also listening to Cherokee and trying to find the banjo
Sounds like we may have collectively jumped the gun on the state of TS 2. Feels like there might be a lot of things undecided and unrecorded still.

yeah i'm now left wondering if what they recorded in december was a companion EP rather than a full length follow up. does 17 days of recording seem too short for an album or too long for an ep or could it go either way?
