got the vinyl early. listened on speakers this am as the snow falls and keeps me indoors and away from work. front to back wonderful. Definitely feels like each side is intentional for a 2xlp set... 4 sides to this record and all connected but live on their own.

wont gush more than necessary but this is another favorite and its perfect for right NOW in this TIME. Replay level high with all the layers to pick apart and let you glide through.

Wonderful experience and cannot recommend it enough for all curious, initiated or uninitiated.

Can I also just say that thanks to those who were complimentary or faux horny about my voice. When I was in primary school I did a musical and I had to do a solo although my music teacher said I couldn't sing because my voice was too deep, it sounded like talking. When the night came, somebody flubbed their line just before my solo and I broke the fourth wall and said 'thanks for learning your lines' in such a sarcastic way everyone started laughing, including me. I ended up crying with laughter, wheezing through my solo and just kind of wordlessly, breathlessly gasping as the fuckin Headmaster and his Der Golem wife eyeballed the fuck out of me like a pair of decrepit joyless losers. Ever since then I've been self-conscious about singing in front of other people unless I'm pissed or my wife who loves me regardless so we sing together a lot.

This is what that sounds like to me, and that makes a lot of sense especially considering how much material they have and him wanting to probably do his own solo work. My guess is Skiffs 2/Panda album (with SB? I forget which one is which)/Rest of Skiffs stuff/Other Panda album or anything else solo they might have.

Although, the way they're speaking, I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they kicked the output of mainstage AC up a lot in the next few years. I can't see them doing another 6 years inbetween albums for a while tbh (yeah I know technically they had a lot of stuff then, but I mean the 4 piece writing stuff like this).

Hahaha, I literally just finished Cherokee and was singing the second vocal line from your recording over it. Seems like a piece of Stan will forever be a part of the Skiffs listening experience for me

Panda: We were gonna perform “Piggy” off Bridge To Quiet, and I feel like maybe we tried twice. And both times that kind of crashed and burned. Which is weird, because I feel like we had it kind of on lock before the tour.

Yeah this is weird. I have to go back to the Ashville show I think or one of the first ones from last fall to listen. I remember it seeming like just a little easter-eggish transition but I mean did it really not work in like real-time? Interesting.

Piggy's great and I liked it as a quick and dirty kind of thing, but they gotta do SWE (which he basically confirms to be planned?) and Bridge to Quiet next month.

Yeah, sounds good/fine. There is a weird synth in it that kinda loops that doesn't really sound like the studio version, but I guess it works. And they even had piggy noses on the projection just for it.

this is the first tour i'm gonna be at where i don't have strong feelings about the setlist like at all. i'd kinda like to hear piggy or bridge to quiet, but that's more to legitimize the ep than out of some dire need to hear the songs live. again, not to obsess over panda's interview in cos, but like it sounds incredible in the boot, jealous you got to see it flare, in a former life i was an ohioan and woulda been there if not for this new, current, dumb, not ohio life i'm living.

otherwise, any mix of Time Skiffs 1 and 2 material would delight me. idk this week i've been "doing my homework" on the era and listened to music box (still kinda meh, kill me!), the best of the 2019 shows, all the 2021 shows, then the best of those, then blast. I'm about to put on the TS hq bird to cap it off but even with just the four singles i'm so inclined to just trust that the bouys are so locked into their vision for these songs that its hard for me to even project my own (royal and) desires onto the show. call me a simp, i just know when i walk out of the majestic theater i'll be happy with what they played.

I love like everything in the wheelhouse rn. But also, this'll be the third outing for this material (if I don't include Music Box) albeit both fall '19 and fall '21 were shorter stints, but it makes me wonder if they might try and shake it up a good bit or if they're gonna momentarily rest on their incredible laurels.

Like will Flowers and Bottle and sorta Fickle still be the old song tentpoles or are they gonna ditch one or more of those for good. Would love to see some big surprises... deep cut shit from MPP/CHZ/PW will be interesting to see, but they might forgo PW entirely and MOST of non-Pulleys CHZ again

They reworked so much shit during PW tours but the set up was so different and it was probably easier to do. But like.... do Water Curses again. No FWX tho... never FWX... (still not time)

Clearly it’s really crunched in the Cincinnati boot, so I can’t be the best judge as somebody who wasn’t there, but I agree that it kind of fell flat — at least the way they interpreted it. I found the dronier approach with the weird sample loop to be interesting, and the very end goes crazy once Geo pulls out the hurdy, lot going on there, but I feel like the real appeal of the studio cut is the bouncy nature of the second half, whereas this version is like the second half done in the more meditative style of the first. It’s not bad, I just think something a little cleaner and less head-spinning would have worked better for the setlists on that tour, which ~overall~felt a little more laid back.

This is why I can’t get over the fact it was recorded in isolation! It kind of makes sense to me though, the more I think about it—when you record each piece alone, say vocals, the mics can pick up how the voice bounces off the room and provides that sense of space. And that gets preserved in the mix. Whereas, if you’re recording multiple instruments at once in a room, some of those frequencies bounce off each other and don’t immediately reach the walls.

I noticed this trend early on in the pandemic when a bunch of bands did isolation releases. Some of them I knew to record live runs and would add on instruments recorded in isolation later in the mix, but suddenly they sounded so much more live with the at-home recordings and mixes. It’s an intriguing paradox

Yeah I wonder if they learned some new tricks recording remote. Cuz there is not a single part of this that smacks of remoteness unless yr like an audio engineer or something or else the fact that it sounds so good is actually evidence that it is remotely done like yr kinda saying, howsoever.

I mean ya how weird is it that this is their best sounding music since MPP (to generalize, and sound obvious) and they recorded it in a apparently less ideal way.

He does mention the "new wave" of COVID or whatever so that kind of implies post-December I think? eh who knows.


Also still funny to me Avey made Bolder a song about hornieness and fuckin a tender little song about listening to records and like time and memories and stuff.

I don't miss those lyrics much but I still might miss the lyrics of Passerby. Like I'm okay with the melody and no Fever Ray Vox processing now, but I miss "I was a dandy son" / "you can read the bottle guy..... wouldn't miss a moment's bliss". Or like whatever they actually were. Eh, if thats my only complaint then thumbs up boys.

They could always do an EP with Broke and Gem + old live soundboards of "Bolder" and "Old Passerby" just sayin!

Dragon Slayer is growing on me with every listen. I thought I was kinda getting demoitis because I truly preferred the knight-pondering-the-full-moon-reflecting-over-a-crystalline-pond vibe from 2019 to the kinda dark cavern(?) mechanical? feel of the blast one, but I'm really beginning to love what they've done here. Almost reminds me of... The Monkees?

'19 Slayer was a bit more serene. But I love it. Maybe I'm just more mature now cuz I don't really much demoitis at all cuz I finally fully understand that I can just put on Blast sessions or Desert Daze whenever I want, like doy.

The album itself tho is a refined and incredibly flowing iteration of some of their best sets ever tho

for me, wishing thinking is that after Skiffs and recording more is that they STILL have two albums worth of stuff to get to, even if we wait a lil longer for skiffs 2

Slayer remains a favorite for me -- the imagery of seagulls, a kite, the bells -- it's all very overcast, gray and rainiy (Shrine of Storms anybody?) but in a fantastical way rather than something more dreary. Triumph through that rain, dancing in it. I would love the long transition in from CKs but i don't mind the quick intro at all. Those bells speak to me on a deep level -- they're like the thing that awakens the need to search for meaning in the past and the mundane that's all across this album. Couldn't have picked a better opener.
