scrolled by this a couple times thinking it was just a recording of genie's open. it rocks.

i really like having magicians open, gem follow... broke zodiac into defeat feels necessary too... kinda like stride as a closer though?

I always picture Broke coming in after Passerby now cuz of Blast.... into Defeat tho? Sounds like a slightly jarring tonal shift.

I think Stride Right could go into Defeat reeeeeeal nice. Like get you in the mode for ballad-y bliss.

And Side 1 can end with Genie's Open

Side 1: Magicians -> Gem & I -> Genies Open
Side 2: Broke Zodiac -> Stride -> Defeat

this is only weird cuz they don't really think of side 1/2, but side a/b/c/d unfortunately.

Weren't we understanding at one point that anything not released in the Music Box recordings released before xmas could end up with a studio version? So sprinkle in Sundown and Peanutbutter Hearts I guess???

I continue to think Soul Capture can stay a weird loosie, would be a great b-side if they ever do that again. Or could be on album, idk, you tell me.

broke into defeat needs to happen. that transition is incredible, it's the same chord.

otherwise, magicians as an opener and genies as a closer is perfect to me. Stride Right doesn't scream closer to me with it's current ending, especially since that would be two deakin closers in a row. would love this
1. Magicians from Baltimore
2. Gem and I

3. Peanut Butter Hearts
4. Kings
5. Stride Rite

6. Broke Zodiac
7. Defeat

I'm guessing sometime this fall, which would already be a long time between recording and release. PW was recorded June 2015 and released Feb 2016, so it seems like ~8 months would be expected. and if they want it to be considered a companion piece it would make sense to release it before the end of the year

only issue I could see is Domino delaying it to try to space it out more. but since TS is being received well it might make more sense for them to seize on that hype with a quick follow-up

has there been any news since they were confirmed to be recording? I hope they got to finish recording everything while they were together

Dominos gotta cut them some slack re having to sit on so much material for longer than usual.

But European tour in fall I bet will keep them wanting to sell SKiffs and not SKiffs 2 (why not both tho).

What if it's just release feb '23. Anniversary

My guess is after the EU tour honestly. would be sick as hell to tour into a release, and honestly Id imagine they would finish recording up(if it's not already all done) after East Coast and before West Coast if Noah is just laying around, so November is my guess.

It is legit heroic how much they're juggling right now (recording new album, releasing/promoting a new album, gearing up for a new tour, making music videos). The soonest they're gonna be able to mix this is July? Which is the usual length they take between recording and mixing no?

I don't know but Time Skiffs hasn't even officially dropped and already I want "Sea of Light" or whatever they'll end up calling it. I think it would be funny if they named it something really long and pretentious like a Godspeed You! Black Emperor release....something like "The Rising Tide of Entropy and the Meaning of All Things Forgotten"

You mean as far as recording or as far as a release goes? I'm honestly expecting maybe 2024. It's not going to be any time soon probably, they're fully booked up with touring all year it seems. Does anyone have any actual confirmation on a time frame regarding recording or where they are with the second LP?

I think the bulk of the record is probably done recording. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did some extra little touch-ups remotely. Seems it worked well for Time Skiffs-Prime.

it was in December I think

given that the songs were pretty fully fleshed out for blast sessions and they've been sitting for years now, there's not really any reason they wouldn't have got it all recorded during that time. but it'd be good to have some kind of confirmation

Ex-fucking-cuse me? No way. If this is the case we might be seeing a release in Holiday 2022-2023. Please don't get my hopes up.

[edit] Are we certain them being in the studio wasn't to record stuff for Time Skiffs?

I'd imagine even if it isn't done, there probably isn't much else to record considering how old some of these songs are and all that. So I'm sorta bewildered to think they would be sitting on material like that for so long. Just seems really really out of character for them, and I don't really understand why Domino would want to wait over a year anyway, they aren't losing anything by releasing it earlier, just fueling the hype 10x. Unless that recording session was just jamming and they completely shifted how they wanna record these songs, I don't see a timeline where this release comes more than a year after Time Skiffs.

Deak said it during one of the blast sessions iirc

yeah josh specifically hinted at this being recording non-Time Skiffs stuff on Blast Radio, and the recording length was scooped on by someone here who knew about the sessions

Bros if we get an "EP" a couple months after Time Skiffs that's really just a separate album all together I'm going to be super stoked. Here's hoping. When did Fall Be Kind come out after MPP, or Water Curses after SJ? It was only a matter of months wasn't it?

[edit] Just checked, it was bout 9-11 months. So a little under a year later. I'm not gonna get my hopes up but god damn what an exciting time to be an AnCo fan.

Oh fuck.... Doesn't Panda have multiple things lined up? Honestly the biggest delay to Skiffs 2 will be fuggin solo projects, mark my words

I have a hunch... and I have been wrong before.... that we will see THIS EP in between now and next LP:

"Cycles of Infinity" (Sept. 17 2022)

1 - Gem and I
2 - Peanut Butter Hearts
3 - Soul Capturer
4 - Danger!

My prediction is that the last song which was originally written by Noah to be on the "Reset" album with Pete didn't fit the vibe of the the rest of their LP. He brought a few new tunes to the AC boys but this one just really stuck out to them. In the chorus now Avey, Deak and Panda take turns cycling through their downward sequence of "Danger, Danger, danger, danger, danger, danger, daaaanger."

The cover art is drawing of a snake by Abby.

The music video is for Soul Capturer.

Soul Capturer ends with a 6 minute hurdy gurdy rendition of Sundown with Cecil.

It gets a 7.5 on Pitchfork.

Listening back to the post-skiffs blast stuff has got me thinking a few things: *wall of text*
Spoiler: show
What if Gem and I suddenly disappears from the setlists in March and never shows on the Skiffs followup. It really sounds like it could fit with Panda's Madrid stuff and it could see Panda wanting to avoid a Song for Ariel/Guys Eyes situation where it seems like maybe he was never fully happy with the way it turned out as a full-band effort.

This got me thinking further about Post-Skiffs and about AC's MO with new projects. I'll say upfront that if this is really intended to be a companion piece and will follow in quick succession this may all be moot, but --- Whenever our boys approach a new project they are looking for a new creative challenge, or at least a new area to explore. With the amount of time they've had this material, and the rate with which they have tired of recent material in the past, it would honestly seem really odd if the next album DOES sound like just more Skiffs (but live). Now doing an album remotely is enough of a challenge that maybe being back together would have felt like enough of a refresher for this not to matter, but still, doesn't feel totally like them. I'm just feeling like we may stand to see major changes for some of the most Skiffsy stuff, or omissions of songs we were sure would appear. Also, with Deak going to Drop of Sun recently too, clearly working on his own material, I wonder if maybe he was trying to nail down one or two more contributions to this next LP. Could we get as many as THREE Deak tracks?? I also really think we're still really likely to see something closer to the Music Box middle section on Defeat. Trying to not whip myself into a frenzy here, I just know the boys have never liked being tied to one thing for too long, so unless they're just trying to let this material free for worry that it will go to waste unrecorded, I have a feeling that this one will end up being a lot less predictable than it seems right now.

man you don't know how badly I want this to be reality. that honestly sounds like a perfect EP. full band danger... i need it... thanks for planting that idea in my head.... soul capturer > sundown would be sick too... post-skiffs is an exciting prospect, we're gonna be eating good these next few years...

It’s got the highest banger potential of all TS1 and 2 tracks. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t a single.

Very interesting point, and I wondered this myself; but I also wonder if the challenge in approaching these songs is just... doing them justice too? I mean... Defeat, Magicians, Sea of Light are just all so huge with so much to touch on.
I really loved that "High School" quote they used, it makes me wonder too if they might just say fuck it and power up and just do an album that isn't too hard for them, and is just a showcase of their pure powerhouse abilities when the odds are all in their favor. I agree that they work best through challenge, but man it seems like they're having fun and it's quite effortless for them right now.

I won't lie, now that Skiffs has landed (sort of) and graced our ears in all its glory; I've been thinking more frequently about how this next one could turn out. I think we can all agree that TS2 has the potential to be truly magical and AC's best work yet. With that considered, is anyone else starting to get worrisome with expectations? Don't get me wrong, I have total faith in the boys to pull this off without a hitch. But hearing of a possible '23/'24 release date just absolutely grinds my gears and I have no doubt the same goes for the band. I mean, some of these tracks have been cooking for years, and I bet the boys are keen to move on to their solo outings or even more new band stuff. I just hope Domino aren't bitches about the release and help this era become the massive one-two punch it deserves to be. Just some thoughts I guess. :?

Anyway, here's what I'm hoping for the tracklist. I know some of y'all have reservations about the length but I reckon they could absolutely pull off an epic double album à la Have One on Me or Soundtracks for the Blind.

1. King's Walk
2. Gem and I
3. Magicians From Baltimore
4. Stride Rite
5. New song/PBH/Sundown With Cecil
6. Genie's Open
7. Defeat
8. Broke Zodiac
9. Soul Capturer
