Also I noticed I had a few rarities that aren't in your "assorted", including an untitled 1-minute PB track that sounds like a Young Prayer outtake, "Principe Real" from CHz radio, and two Avey tracks feat. Deradoorians also from CHz radio. I'm assuming you left out "In the City That Reads" due to copyright reasons. let me know if you want any of these!
Totally, there are a number of songs I left out because of copyright, but also a few cases of just thinking the mixes were already good enough. Most of the remixes are def thoroughly loud enough. But I do think I will add the "Principe Real" demo and that "Untitled" to my next Panda update.

The Principe Real demo on CHz Tramission #1 or whatever it was, was the best version. That 909 tom was so good.
I heard this track before I really got into simpler dance music.. still haven’t found anything as economically massive as this version of the track. Panda is the absolute king of buildup and release
Glad you've been having a good time listening to this stuff
Hoping to some updates to the first post in the next few weeks. Rounding out the Panda loose tracks, finally cutting up those other Grateful Dead remixes from Geo, and thinking of remastering some other live sets. Not sure though.
No pressure at all, please don't do anything more than what suits you and that you have time and energy for. That said, I will be thrilled if you ever do!
Currently working on some more unique live renditions, the remaining tracks from Geo's radio shows, some Panda tracks I forgot like Song for Ariel and Depersonalization, and a remaster of the Spinning on Air set. The latter sounding very good!

thanks for all this! have you considered doing glasslands?
Didn't know about that one off improvisation. It is now on my radar!

Do you have any desire to remaster Panda’s self titled?
Was thinking about it. It's already sounds fairly good for what it is. Mainly saw some weird noises at the beginning and end of tracks that I would correct, along with mild EQing. Pretty far on the back burner, but I might take another look at it.

Okay finally putting this one out, the Spinning on Air remaster. Like the other radio sessions I mainly tried to decompress it and add back upper harmonics. There has also been some EQ and stereo widening. I think it's particularly good on Playpen. What a cool collection of tracks!
Also some back news about my Pullhair Rubeye dream. I finally burnt my friend's CD copy of it and it looks like at some point the tape transfers the tracks must have come from went through a digital mixing process where the high and low ends were totally rounded off. The high frequencies in particular fade off to basically zero the closer you get towards 22050hz so my desire for a vinyl rip has significantly diminished. Might still get around to remastering it, but there's not much to be done otherwise. Oh well! Found some more stuff I missed in the back catalog as usual, and going to add some of the latest jams like the one with Deakin and Geo and such in the main post soon.
Wow, it's almost been a year since the last remaster. Hope everyone's been doing alright. I'm actually coming off a back injury and trying to get things in my life more accessible for my current needs. Hopefully I'll be getting a standing desk soon and I'll be able to bare being on my computer for longer than 20 minutes at a time, which means I'll be posting again. I've got my eye on the stuff from the past two years, the docket stuff, and a couple of other goodies I have just yet to upload. Made a more ideal version of "Song for Ariel" with AI separation tools and a de-verb plugin. It's awesome.
Anyways, you'll hear from me again soon, and enjoy the bump
Looking forward to whatever you manage to share, and if it's not possible, thanks anyway for creating the definitive versions of so many favourites. All the best with the recovery.

Hey, glad to hear you're alright! I just pulled my back yesterday, very sympathetic toward your back struggles as such.
This thread has been on my mind as of late and I'd so love for more updates in their own time. Do you take requests?

Totally, what were you thinking?
I think you've remastered a few of the 2007-2009 radio shows. I'd love to hear in particular the show with WWIW?S touched-up as it's one of my favorite recordings of theirs.
Thank you so much for this project! I've downloaded all of this. One thing I noticed was for AC Live on BBC1 (2005.11.01), the titles of Bonfire of the Vanities and Good Lovin Outside are mixed up. Anyways, amazing work!
This is my first one using a few new pieces of VST software. One to "uncover" the original audio (which includes both brightening the EQ and reducing reverb using some magic unbeknownst to me), then using stem separation tools to be able to address the issues of each element: vocals being de-muddied, guitar drums and bass given more punch, stereo width on track by track basis, and turning up the bass and vocals. It is amazing what this technology can help achieve

dude, you're doing some amazing work here. i love your passion for audio engineering and mixing. would love to pick your brain, you seem to really know your stuff! definitely going to listen to more of these. So much to choose from. Saw you mention issues with your back - can definitely relate but it sounds like you got it pretty bad! Hope you're doing well and are able to work through that issue and obtain some long lasting relief.
looking forward to more of these boots being cleaned up. I attempted to clean up one of the 2019 live recordings of Defeat, but I feel it doesn't even compare to what you've achieved.
Do you do audio engineering professionally? That's my dream...entirely amateur and somewhat of a hobbyist but I absolutely love messing with mixing and processing. I've spent over a decade learning about this stuff but only started recording live instrumentation and vocals within the past couple years. mixing vocal tracks is such a challenge... I struggle with fully grasping the more technical aspects of the art though, like how to keep things from phasing awfully, adding or controlling harmonics, taming resonant frequencies, etc.

as a real heavy governor's island 2010 listener this is awesome
this seems like a whole lot of work but if you're still looking for requests then these are some of my favorite live performances that I always wished were a bit more HD
ac
2009 glastonbury-WWIWS, fireworks (my 2 fav performances of these from this era)
2019 desert daze-passerby (massive demoitis here and I don't think I'm alone)
2021 blast sessions-magicians (definitely getting demoitis with this one)
panda
2009 ATP-#1 (sick delay on kick drum)
2017 SFUCO-nod to the folks (crowd energy that's lacking in other recordings of this song)
2018 9:30 club-dolphin>flight, sabbath, sunset (biggest discrepancy between performance and audio quality IMO)
this recording of playing the long game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brFJ3ZY-yIo (always bumping this one at 2am on the freeway)
avey/slasher flicks
2011 johnny brendas-song for jerome, mountain game
2013 glasslands-that it won't grow, the outlaw
@TetsuUnderFire: Thanks for the love, yeah I went to school for engineering, but haven't ever been able to segue it into a career. The back pain and autism stuff always kinda hampered my career prospects and kept me from competing with the big fish, so I've dedicated myself to keep doing what I can for communities that are important to me. Which is fine, because I love audio technology and it will always be fascinating to me.
Even before I went to school for it, I was already really into editing and archiving. I think I learned the most the summer of my junior where I spent almost all my time indoors piecing together my ideal stereo version of The Beach Boys SMiLE that I'm still pretty proud of. That's where I learned a lot about phase alignment, de-mixing tricks, EQ-matching, etc. Then things skyrocketed when iZotope RX came out. I got to mess around with it at school and immediately went and got it for myself, and actually seeing what was wrong with the recordings helped a lot too. Sometimes people tell you not to mix with your eyes, but honestly at this point, I can see everything wrong with a recording via spectrogram. I can read them in a way like I'm basically hearing them- I could probably write out a plausible 4 bar groove just by hand.
As for live stuff which is sounds like you're doing, I don't even know what to say. That's like a never-ending battle. I tried that party a few times and yeah it always felt like I was making concessions of what sounded the least worst, fighting with feedback, getting people mixes that sound good to them. My biggest suggestion is if the place doesn't have a mixer with a digital interface; get one! Working without one was dreadful.
@cody Yeah the Glasslands boot is certainly up next, and I forgot Song for Jerome never got a real release, so I could probably clean up that show as well. Will have to check out those other sets too for the possible future compilation I mentioned earlier in the thread. Thanks for the suggestions!
Like, it's not even fair what can be done using Demucs now. Basically any vocal, bass, or drum level changes can be done almost seamlessly. With live shows I can even remove some audience chatter. Even the mess of the Avey and Deradoorian live being almost inseparable, it pulls stuff out I didn't even hear before. Unfortunately it now is clear it sounds like the recorder moved or put the device in their pocket or something, and with the gain clipping it makes the demixing process more difficult. It's kind of my white whale, because I know there is something cool there, but it was not preserved nicely in any way, lol. Later I might attempt breaking the recording into 3 frequency bands, manually automating them to account for the recorded compression, thus hopefully getting a better result from Demucs. It'd be total overkill, but...
Love it!!! If some day you could do the same for that whole concert, my life would be complete. I feel like that’s one soundboard we’re never gonna get
Jerome sounds brilliant. Thank you again for all your work on these. Enjoy the insights into the process, too. One day I hope to buy you a pint to say thanks.
No problem guys, glad it turned out good. And taking a look at Glasslands today, which should be good because I also figured out a new method of denoising that's going to be invaluable. For anyone that cares, I found that using Demucs to break a stereo file into stems, it sometimes allocates the background noise to one or two of them. Using the stems I can address each noise differently, and when recombining them the result is way better than if I just denoised the whole stereo file. Less artifacts, less gating pockmarks, more control, etc. It's fucking wild!!!
