Definitely! Seems like we're around the same age so I can relate. I missed the pre-CHZ tour so I've always been a bit bummed that I never really got to experience the band playing "new" or "unreleased" stuff so even though I know these songs have existed for a while it's still super exciting to think of how much has yet to be officially released and finally getting to see them still work that stuff out live. Also I'm sure we'll get a few competely new songs too.

Oh soo... I think Gem and I is about Ariel Pink... his birthday is June 24th (he's a Gemini) and with the political lyrics in tandem with the revival of Songs for Ariel amongst the January 6th debacle... well, the lyric "we got into the holy sound" really makes me feel like this is super true theory.

edit: he's actually a cancer like Panda, but maybe that deals with the whole Gemini twin motif. Just a thought.

I love the idea that the song is about being in a diner

To be honest, I really wish this was the song list for TS

Dragon slayer
Car keys
Presser John
Gem n I
Broke
Stride right
Cherokee
Passerby
Defeat (2019 lyrics with 2021 soundscape)

Not necessarily in that order but that song list would’ve made this one of my favorite albums of all time. The four songs that aren’t on TS are literally my favorite of all the new songs. And honestly car keys and prester john are the only two songs that I really really like and the rest are just ok. I’m praying that the one song we haven’t heard yet is the missing song that makes me excited for this album bc as of right now this is my least excited album to come out. And this is killing me to admit this. I love them so much but after waiting 3 years for a new album I’m just so underwhelmed by the songs they chose for it. Especially since I love the artwork for it and everything. And now who the fuck knows when the next album drops with those 4 songs. It sounds like they are pretty much complete as far as the writing goes, not sure if they are already recorded tho. So I’m hoping for a double album year in 2022, and I can’t see them wasting those songs on just an EP either.

this is exactly the tracklist I would assemble to rival my favorite ac albums. maybe throw in a revamped kings as the opener. it's so difficult to admit that I loved 2019 cherokee and passerby but am very lukewarm on the new ones. they've lost their "bite" in favor of something mellower... a trend that I wish they'd do away with already

but as always I'm sure I'll be pleasantly surprised come TS and the follow-up

I'm really wondering this too, I really thought the setlist said Genie's by itself or something, I thought the song was gonna be Genie's Lamp

I’ve been wondering about this—why record remotely at all? I know two of the boys have families, but why not quarantine together (if you’re really worried about the ‘rona) and take a month or two to nail it down together in the same room? The material seems particularly sensitive to in-person energy. Just like there is something lost in a Zoom teleconference, there is going to be something lost in a remote recording session of endless overdubbing. My mother’s German so I’m skeptical of everything.

Yes exactly, it was a precarious time. I feel like they stated at one point that Noah living in Portugal was the biggest issue, with the travel restrictions/future feeling generally uncertain, it just wasn't a good idea for him to leave the country. I do remember seeing a photo of Dave and Brian together posted by dropofsun at some point last year, wondering if TS will technically have some in person bass and hurdy gurdy action lol.

Maybe they're not keen on spending that much time away from their kids? I know I often need/want a break from mine, but within 48hours I'm desperate to see them again. Couldn't imagine going months if I didn't have to.

Wait, Time Skiffs was recorded in spring of 2020!? Can you link to an interview where they confirmed that?

I'd honestly be pretty happy if they just released Magicians and Defeat as a short 36-38 minute-ish album. What an epic AC experience that would be.

Then chuck all the shorter/punchier tracks together on a separate album.

They can manage this all in 2022 right?

Really hoping for an orchestral arrangement of sorts on time skiffs 2. Ive always felt like defeat needs the strings, and a plucky string / woodwind arrangement would sound amazing on all of these songs and help to stylistically differentiate it from time skiffs

I love the few, long songs idea for skiffs 2 but I'd add:

Magicians
Defeat
Stride Right

all super stretched out. 15 (edit: 7) min deakin piano improv right after defeat into stride right.

I mean ya I kinda LOVE the idea of Skiffs 2 being an album of 5 or less tracks that are long af.

Boys jam for the first time ever, I mean TRULY jam on a studio LP and they also do another basically first: do those strings and winds yal thirsty for, even if only on Defeat.

Y not. YOLO, AC, we are thirsty for these unexplored studio LP flavors, boys. get to WORK

Magicians
Gem and I (gotta have one short and sweet single)
Stride Right
Soul Capturer (Given it's proper work)
Defeat
Broke
Sea of Light

Would be awesome..55+ minutes or so. Really jammy Stride Right and Soul Capturer, with 10 minute Magicians and Sea of Light and 15+ minute defeat with the strings. Broke with the strings makes me think that defeat could definitely have them too. They could theoretically also just throw Soul Capturer and Broke on an EP and do even longer Stride Right and Sea of Light as well, so 5 tracks there.
