I can't say it was the happiest time of my life, that would be the last five years or so with my wife, but I really think it was the most I've ever enjoyed music. Sorry I never really gotta over it, but of all the little communities I've ever been a part of, this is the place I'll always genuinely care for everyone. Any time anyone here is ever in England, you've got a place to stay. X

Amen to that. You’ve given me more laughs than anyone here, Stan. Don’t go anywhere. And cheers to your happy marriage—you’re right, that takes the cake.

oh god. yes. it's very affirming to know others out there viewed ac's fashion and musical style as the epitome of a cool dude. i mirrored their style inasmuch as i felt their style expressed something deeply concealed of myself to myself.

love you, stan. the 2007-2009 years were a treasure that will be retold in years to come to for "those who know." glad to still be sharing the ride with y'all.

Ha. As they say, “You have to kiss a few frogs...” In ‘07 I was, incredibly, discovering an obscure, little band called The Beatles. Growing up my folks had Neil Young LPs, Springsteen, Sinatra, The Beach Boys. No Beatles. I knew some of the hits from the oldies station, but the “deep dive” didn’t happen until I borrowed a 2-CD set of The Beatles from the university library. I was 22. I’d be curious to learn how young heads today are finding the Fab Four, if at all. Someday soon they’ll be as alien as the Situationists or Bach or Flaubert.

In 07 I was just entering my music snob phase too, as a sophomore in HS. Had a rough prior year getting way into... Red Hot Chili Peppers *cringe* which was a step down from the Shins, Decemberists and Gorillaz I had listened to in middle school (also... Coldplay ;_;). But in my 2nd year of high school I had the big Beatles, Dylan and Velvet Underground awakening. THEN a huge Radiohead phase and THEN finally AC, black dice, dirty projectors, grizzly bear and the like (I got pitchforked)

Yep I wouldn't really get into AC until right at the end of 08 so I got to them just as this era was reaching it's glorious conclusion with the actual album release and FBK fall of 09

Person Pitch was this already semi established classic by then! So that and ST were my first ac albums, which I can't complain about

Zoomers really won't fuck with the Beatles much unless their parents force them to, huh..

That 2007 era was pure magic. My Girls with piano is the definitive version for me. The choral sample that comes in at "I don't care for fancy things" reminds me so much of the cover art of the Bros 12" single.. Psychotropic tropical island bliss out life celebration. Also crazy how little percussion the old version used to have.

I loved how bare bones the songs sounded live in 2007 as opposed to the glossy production of MPP. But to be a fan of AC is to be a fan of change and I really respect that they didn't try to make Person Pitch 2: SP-404 Edition, knowing that it was gonna be a sampler based album. MPP really connected with a large group of people, not me so much, but the live songs are good enough for me.

This may seem like blasphemy on this board but I like El Guincho's Kalise more than the album version of Brothersport. The 07 live version kills it for sure, but I could never get into the album version. All in all, I'm not complaining though because we still have the boots and the last minute of Safer which sounds like what MPP would sound like if they kept it raw.

Can we just talk about how we hadn't even heard Strawberry Jam yet and they were already touring MPP songs? People were hearing Feels for the first time and going to them live and being like "wtf is this?"

These guys were - and still are - way ahead of the game.

I remember in September of 07 I had just started my first semester at college and got high for the first time and called my best friend from home to rave about this incredible and freaky album I had just discovered, Strawberry Jam (that was my first exposure to AC, though I had seen the Feels album art floating around in Amazon and last.fm recs for me for awhile).

those were good times. AC were a huge catalyst for my musical awakening. them and all the file-sharing that happened on campus

and looking back, the combo of SJ, PP, and pullhair all coming out in the same year made for a uniquely mind-blowing era of AC

Feel like we had somewhat similar paths of discovery, going from stuff like Gorillaz to Beatles/VU/other classic 60s stuff to more modern acclaimed music like Radiohead to getting "pitchforked" heheh. I remember Arcade Fire were my absolute favorite band for a period of like 2-3 weeks until I got into AC, then I almost never listened to them again lol. Happened around the same time too, I remember it quite clearly: saw the Peacebone video on youtube spring 2008, was obsessed/borderline intimidated for a couple months but didn't listen to anything else til the summer when I decided to check out Fireworks, then immediately devoured most of their other releases just in time to get swept up in all the MPP hype in the fall. Feels good to know that there was a real shared sense of magic between everyone who experienced that time. I had just turned 14 around that time too, I think getting into the band at that age and at that precise point in their career kind of rewired my brain and goes a long way to explain why I'm still posting here today lol

i've been wondering if they're actually doing that right now... if some of the songs they're touring are for the record after the next record

Was thinking that also. Particularly as they've stated they finished the record earlier in the year.

oh man this thread really resonates with me. thanks for making it. 07 was the golden era of music for me too.

i graduated HS in 07 - great summer. i remember the strawberry jam freebird and listening to fireworks on the 4th of July while watching actual fireworks, laying in a field at the park.

also their fashion in the early MPP days (like Cooper and lhtd mentioned)... totally agree. i think my fashion sense is still influenced by that... to a degree.

their midi fest in france from 2007 is one of my favs

There have been so many paradigmatic shifts in life since ‘07—in politics, culture, technology, art. I know it’s not necessarily a universal experience, and maybe it’s tangential to being an American of a particular age and personality type, but ‘21 feels so profoundly different. There’s almost an unbridgeable chasm between the two. I wonder if people of epochs with less upheaval (and a more ritualistic, cyclical code) had the feeling that the recent past is this remote thing, or if they even thought much about it. I’m finding it harder and harder to return to that headspace, to get out of “the now” long enough to remember that things weren’t always... like this.
