In 2010 Avey Tare and Deakin of Animal Collective invited Tickley Feather to their rural studio in New York State known as the Good House. While there the three fast friends used the good vibes of that old church and produced 9 new tracks for her. Using Tickley Feather's 4-track cassette recordings as the foundation, Avey worked out new arrangements for all of the songs playing everything from synthesizers to autoharp to electric guitar, to percussion, field recordings and a very thumpy table. Together with Deakin who sat behind the controls they used the unique ambience of the old church to shape a sonic world for Tickley Feather's songs. This was all done in the same space and around the same time as Avey Tare's Down There and you can hear the connection if you are fan of Down There's sonic palette. These songs were then nearly forgotten until years later when the trio reconvened to mix and polish the 9 songs that would become 123.

cool stuff, excited about the Down There connection

Awesome, cannot wait. Wonder if this is what they were hinting at back when they announced B2Q

Tomorrow, we are releasing a new EP called Bridge to Quiet. During April and May, we took a look at some of our improvisations from 2019 and early 2020. We remixed them, collaged them, and built them into songs, finding our way to Bridge to Quiet. We hope you enjoy it! It was a fun and cathartic process, which has actually pushed us to start a new project in the same fashion.

Nah I feel like that's gotta be in reference to the next LP. I get the impression all these Ticklely Feather songs were pretty much fully formed 10 years ago, they were just recently mixed/mastered or something.

I think Deakin even mentioned working on the Tickley Feather album a year or two ago, before BtQ was even a thing

How can you just leave a project unreleased like that for 10 years??? Obviously there’s a reason but I would just feel like I had overdue homework or something

Yeah I was thinking that. Especially having had AC members at the height of their powers working on it. Really interested to hear the story behind it

TF guest hosted this months O'Brien System and debuted another new song from the album!

"Thanks to Tickley Feather for guest hosting this month and allowing me to premiere “Oil” from her upcoming record “TICKLEY FEATHER 1 2 3” (link in bio). It’s killer start to finish and really psyched for Annie (+ Dave and Josh who produced!) as it finally sees the light. We met Annie on the ODDSAC Ooze Room set in 2006. Danny knew her from Philly and made a point of telling us to check out her music which led to her Paw Tracks records and joining AC on tour."

I also interviewed Tickley Feather, Dave and Josh for my Dublab Radio show about the new Tickley Feather record, we spoke about the process of recording it and they had some really awesome things to say about it and the record is so good!! Definitely going to be in my top 10 of 2021. so happy they ended up releasing it.

weird that it came out on a Monday but last week was pretty weak in terms of new releases so I'm glad to have this

first impression is that, while her first two albums showed a lot of promise and creativity, this is the one where her talent is fully realized. plus it's got those same swampy synths and murky drum machines as Down There, you can definitely tell what Avey and Deakin contributed. "Cowman", "Red Kimono" and "Warmth" are early standouts but there wasn't a track I didn't like

Same. Avey really knew how to make production flourishes push songs to new heights back then

Finally got around to listening to the dublab interview, great stuff. Love the story of Dave and Josh sort of introducing her to the process of mixing, think they did a great job of retaining that incidental quality you get with largely improvised music. This album has been a grower for me, not that I didn't enjoy it on first listen but the songs seem to open up more every time.

The amount of variety and progression in Wish is phenomenal, so much like AC’s best work but also has its own thing going.

Wow bit late but I'm really loving this. Had it on repeat the past week in that sickly kind of way where you know that you're going to ruin the album for yourself later.

The only tracks I ever feel like skipping are Mossy Mouth and Oil, but they are still good. I think Warmth is probably just about my favourite at this stage - it used to be Red Kimono of course, but I listened to it too much.

Also whenever I listen to Cookie it reminds me so much of the Drums. Could be Johnny singing.
