I just bought (leased) a new car cuz my last one got totaled by an idiot BUT I can finally actually play like mp3s and shit in this new one so I threw last fall's version of Prestor John, Cherokee and Passerby on the mega mp3 mix I'm playin in there and man.
such good songs. I also feel hella attached to the lady who makes the dumb joke about t-payne during Cherokee and then during the climax of that song she's like 'so pretty!" or something and then after Prester John someone (maybe same lady? not sure which shows these are from) she's like "that was SO beautiful!" and people laugh. but its like true.
anyway. hella people talking over the first part of prestor John tho lol. someones like "ya I like this new stuff a lot, this is good" right before it gets reeeally good.
ive made peace w/ these interuptors and now they are vaguely part of the songs
I was on a kiiinda bummer trip the first night of the music box set and I feel like hellllllla people were talking over that whole first night, thus the bummer trip and thus me deciding to go the 2nd night.
maybe it was just cuz I had a better seat that 2nd night, but the 2nd night was holy and pure and I did not notice talkers much. people please dont talk over live music but if u do, please let it be about the music at least.

Lol yeah I think all those are from the Meow Wolf boot. I wasn't sure where to put the mic, I placed it next to the soundboard but it's level with the crowd and is surrounded by people. I tried to find a spot that was higher but got sketched out that someone might steal the recorder lol. Agreed though, I used to think they were annoying but now they're sorta endearing. I don't mind it so much anymore. I just caved yesterday and listened to 24 and Cherokee again. Amazing songs!

Love the "that was so beautiful!" call out. Chatter is much worse in Defeat but overall that boot isn't ruined by talk

Oh damn that's your boot roark? Hell ya, much thanks, had forgotten that.
I feel like I'm not gonna get demoitis for these but not sure what leads to believe that. I have faith they're gonna deliver something super special in 2021. (And if that lady is yr gf I forgive her and the band should probably sample her)

I hope we’re heading for an announcement soon. Idk how much longer I can live without studio passerby

I really hope something comes in the next year at most. I really, really need a studio version of Defeat. The baroque-pop portion is fucking great.

I can't recall what song it is but there's a part where that same girl I believe is singing the fifth harmony of Aveys or maybe Deakins vocal. It has become part of the song for me and I hope the guys do something like it on the official release. Or when some chick says "It's a waltz!" Lol

Agreed, the harpsichord trills made it for me. That and the coming of age lyrics reminded me of all the piano lessons I did as a kid and how those old songs would reluctantly live in my head right next to whatever top40 I liked at the time.

That would be stride right. I saw Deak play that song solo in late 2018 and the lyrics blew my mind, I was so Psyched to hear it come back in the boots

Knowing that the boys are somewhere out there working on these tracks is one thing that's kept me going through this total disaster of a year...

If they release a single upon announcement which I expect, which song do you guys think it'll be? One from last year's bunch or something brand new? I feel like Prester John has single potential but I truly have no idea.

Think Gem and I is an obvious single.

If the world is in any way a good place, Defeat will be released as a standalone thing before the year is out

Maybe a music box ep with DownDownDownDown -> Prestor John -> Defeat and then the rest of the 2019 tracks fill out the album

Would be cool. I had previously thought they might turn music box into a hollindagain style release. But with the updated Prestor and Defeat I dunno. The real curio is Magicians from Baltimore. What is going on with that song man

yeah i miss magicians in baltimore so much. pretty weird that is just vanished when that ending is so huge and it looked like they were having so much fun playing it. what happened to the path too?? maybe it was lost when they translated prester john into the 2019 version.
i rly hope defeat is on the album. probably as closer but perhaps tracks 9>10>11 being strangers -> defeat -> boulder... shit could be FIRE !!!

The anthem of the year that doesn't end up coming out during the year. The most 2020 thing EVER.
But I totally agree. Defeat as a standalone single to end 2020. Tease a second single (Cherokee) for Jan 2021 that will kick off the new album cycle in the new year. Defeat 12'' included with deluxe edition of the new LP.

Defeat xmas surprise single would be the best good luck charm for a solid new year. So ready for this next round of tunes, haven't been this hyped since MPP

they're ALWAYS focused on making a live set that feels good to them, or an album experience that makes sense to them. if a song doesn't fit with the rest of the set or album, or they don't have a way to transition that's fun for them then they'll dump it for the time being. That's happened with so many of their songs. they find some new stuff and they dump the old stuff. they can't afford to be too precious about any song, even a great one. the words "fan favourite" must be utterly meaningless to them at this point.

I imagine the new sound will be more "mature" and minimal. In my head, it sounds like Feels recorded during the CHz era. I could also see the songs morphing into something similar to Bridge to Quiet. Hopefully a announcement is happening within the next couple of months.

Was imagining a Zaireeka-style AC album where you could choose who you want to hear on each song for the new album. It actually would've worked really well on Painting With (sonically and thematically). Like if you selected only Geo and Avey you'd lose Panda's vocals and the bass. You could mix and match all the songs like this.

Cool idea! My vote would be to get a Zaireeka-style Centipede Hz. It's dense at knotty as it is. Painting With with all the hocketing madness would be super cool too! Imagine playing the parts on a couple different boomboxes around the room with the harmonies bouncing around slightly out of sync!

Transverse Temporal Gyrus got pretty close to this! Would be interesting to see if they explored that further in the future but I dunno what they're going to want to do for this next release. I'm guessing something much more straightforward. I dunno if they think anyone has time for weird stuff at the moment. I'm hoping for just a big meaty chunk of music to get lost in rather than something with a shit ton of different possible versions. That stresses me out. I don't know how fans cope with releases like Tomboy or The Life of Pablo. I'm so much more fond of Avey's approach to music releases than Panda's. I guess he has less pressure on him as a solo artist to keep the hype train going though.

Revisited some of last year's sets in the dead of night while returning from the holidays. I waited just long enough that the material feels so so fresh and the excitement has me jumping out of my skin again.
Some random insomnia thoughts:
-Would be interesting if Defeat was a "Knot Suite" and different parts of the suite were spread across the album and opened each side. The piece flows through the album, thematically tying it all together.
-Obviously this is sacrilege as the song is a flawless masterwork that really really gets under my skin and is deeply moving and it'd be a weird move to split it up but hey, curveball!
-Kings feels like a perfect album opener. Passerby would be an excellent 2nd track.
DownDownDownDown is still my favorite follow-up to Defeat. It serves as a glistening coda to the vibe; stoking the embers as you watch the fire die down, smoke floating up into the stars. Passerby would also work as a tone-shifting pallet cleanser after these two.
