With regards to the band saying that they’re working on a project right now in the same style as Bridge to Quiet, I really think we’re gonna get 2 albums of material from the new material and here’s my pie in the sky unrealistic prediction for the tracklists
2020 Quarantine Album:
1. Magicians from Baltimore
2. DownDownDownDown
3. Tri-Kid
4. Comes and Goes
5. Peanut Butter Hearts
6. What’s on the Road, It’s Shining
7. Defeat
2021 Post COVID Album
1. Cherokee
2. 24
3. Prestor John
4. Dragon Slayer
5. Kings
6. Strangers
7. Passerby
8. Stride Right
9. Out There
10. Gem and I
11. Bolder

DownDownDownDown has gotta be on the studio album.
also, post-covid recording could mean we don't get that record til 2022 with domino's scheduling.

My guess is that they are working another visual album with DP that would combine the MBV footage with those rehearsal recordings that gave us Bridge to Quiet.
Pure speculation, obviously.

It'll be interesting to see how these tracks change after taking on the down-tempo vibe of BtQ. Either way the songs they've introduced are so sick. I'm loving this new era for them. It feels more genuine AC to me than the PW era.

I am late and there is a lot to read through. What's the best boots to check out for an idea on what their next album may sound like? The MBV stuff?

The Big Sur 2019 boot is the best performance imo but Meow Wolf has the best tracklost

A lot of these new tracks really harken back to the Centipede Hz Era, especially with Panda's drumming. I dig a lot of it but hopefully these get a lot more fleshed out, layered, and polished when released.

I really hope they DONT sound too polished. but these boys sure like to polish on their major studio releases.
its like chz a bit but way more chill, vibe-y and loungey. I hope it sounds kinda live and slightly loose.

Considering the massive delays to the boys getting their studio time, I kinda feel like there's no way these songs won't undergo some big changes by the time we hear them again.

Meow Wolf's boot is so quality, the music sounds amazing. There's a bit of annoying audience stuff peppered in but I keep going back to those versions of Prester John, Dragon Slayer, Once Again, and Out There.

I can see the new LP being mastered similar to Crimson. I think the razor-sharp technicolor of the actual CHz album wouldn't fit the new jams at all but they could really shine when they're presented clean, polished but still airy, much like MPP.
I'd compare their studio / live sounds to the Dead. The studio albums are clean and sonically rich blueprints or jumping off points for the mania of the live renditions, which aren't as clean but are obviously looser and more expansive. Both are equally amazing for different reasons.
But I completely agree on the chill, lounge-y vibes. Let's get some Blue Note vibes up in here.

My take was it would sound a lot like Bouys. But with the extended gestation period who knows. Could come out sounding like red hot chillis

Listened to Passerby again... regardless of how they render it in the studio, the Big Sur recording of that track, to me, is already one of the best things they've ever done.

Right there with you. I had been playing the Desert Daze one over and over last year. It's absolutely one of their best ever. The vocal portion at the end is transcendent...

I'm glad they're seriously examining the capabilities of 3-part harmonies within the band again with tracks like Passerby.
We didn't get any of that last time they were a 4 piece but I remember they would all sing together on Also Frightened live and it was transcendent

I have not listened to this one in a while, the second part still makes me chuckle aha. I don't dislike it tho but still seems weirdly out of place.

Like the circus-sounding section? I dig it

I fear that I'll always be perma-demoitis on Defeat but that's just because the original music box version is literally perfect and cannot be improved on whatsoever. So fuck it, change it up and throw some harpsichord in there to make the studio version its own thing.

yup ! it's so hard to accept this circus section in maybe one of their most beautiful song. But the final version will be probably different. We will have a 2018 version, a 2019 version and a 2021 version (hopefully)
