Never ever ever better than when he just warbled over a seven minute world music/60s loop.
Seriously.
I'm Not and Laughed For A World are pure ecstasy for me. Completely transcendent years and years beyond where I felt moved by almost anything else he's done. He still makes fantastic music but he hit an epiphanous peak so early and so high, so much higher than virtually anything, before he even really knew what he was doing.
So many tried to imitate and not a fuckin one came close.
This was the period when you really did think fuck is AC anything without PB? This guy is is the true fuckin GOAT. Incomparable ecstasy and a life of sunshine and crying with happiness. Every ass was a tight bun. You could walk away from any job and take a shit on the boss desk because you just sleep on your buddy's couch until you want another fuckin job. Too bad, the system. Turns out I fuck you. Let's get a foot massage. Let's swallow a sword. Let's jump in a lake. Let's work for NASA.
And then he releases Tomboy, starts writing trad arr structures and you have to pay a mortgage.
Seriously.

Lol spot-on. There is something special in youth that lights up for a few years, then fades, never to return. For all of us.

I meeeeeean. We're kinda taking the piss I kno but to be fair when I was in college there was a lot about tb and pbvsgr that excited me more than washed-out fucking PP. Maybe that had more to do with the fact that "ethereal" reverb choir-core became embarrassingly prevelant among white dude bandcapmers myself included but uh. Carry on, legit ignore.me

In hindsight it's kind of wild Chores and Derek made it on the album, barely anyone's fingerprints but panda's (not a criticism, just observing). Guess same goes for Street Flash::avey

I meeeean.... panda kinda sucks and he's mean.
((but boy do I love when he writes McCartney esque compsed shit like Alsatian, last nite, selfish, half of buoys. and sunset on vinyl is maybe the best thing that happened to me year it came out. )))
u just really miss wuhan dog. in terms of my own nostalgia I only kiiiindaa miss 2013 sometimes and greaper boots are just fine to me. that time was way more about amok, mbv and modern vampires of the city so I lucked out re my crippling nostalgia I guess
they popped off in 2010 too but that year was whatever overall. 2009 when I actually got into the band was just like okay. my life's sucked man, I got lucky

Kinda wish they did a mega-album after MPP instead of the split of solo works, not exactly a new thought but the dynamic could've been magic:
Avey- Keyboard, bass drum, sequencer
Panda- guitar, sampler, add'l drums (snare, tom, crash)
Deakin- guitar, electronic percussion
Geologist- samplers, bass (moog taurus pedals)
Laughing Hieroglyphic
3 Umbrellas
Oliver Twist
Glass Bottom Boat
Ghost of Books
Lucky 1
Cemetaries
Slow Words
Mountain Game
Footy
Alsatian Darn
Last Night at the Jetty
Surfers Hymn
Scheherezade
[etc.]

I do miss Wuhan (although the Wuhan I loved is gone forever in the pursuit of modernity) and that era of peak AC is forever entwined with that chapter of my life like DNA but I also one hundred percent think PB was never more inspired or more joyful than at that time.

After watching the Lodge room boot on YouTube, I'd have to say he's better than ever. But I think his contributions back then were better with AC anyway

Sorry, I was making a similar point about how little of the other dudes finger prints are on street flash, so sparse. Not a complaint or a criticism, just an observation.

I visited Lisbon last summer and yeah I can see how moving to a place like that would result in songs as magical as Laughed for a World and Bros. Not saying I dislike new PB I really love
buoys and a good portion of Reaper but man if this theory isn’t spot on

Oh god you're referencing an old post of mine aren't you? Did that somehow become a meme here? Jesus. It was on a different account.

Sorry to bring it back into your mind, to be honest I'm only aware of it from a few people mentioning it months ago, figured it's a bit of a laugh

Person Pitch is my favorite album of all time. I'm just glad that PB is still making music after making something so seminal. "You won't make that one againnnn!" The Homies vinyl EP is my second favorite and his track Studie with Teebs is amazing. The man still has the golden touch.
Sung Tongs + Prospect Hummer, Feels and Person Pitch is the holy trinity of AC music for me. I was a year late to Sung Tongs and got into it at the same time as Feels. So 2005 - 2007 was the highest peak of connecting hard to AC music. Getting stoned and listening to the textures and buried sounds in all those albums really helped me grow as a listener to music. It was those albums and live bootlegs all the time.
That being said, I was 19 to 22 at that time which was a great period in life for me. No anxieties or desk job back then and I was finding new art that lit my brain on fire all the time. I think my mind was more receptive to things back then too. My theory is that I look at a screen too much when I listen to music these days. If I split my attention I'm obviously not gonna appreciate sound as much. Anyways, its a incredibly huge hill for any new AC material to reach those peaks. But I hear the essence of that era in their new music all the time. Its just not as wild as it was back then because they helped shape what it means to be wild now. I'm super happy to have been exposed to their sounds at that age. I wouldn't have ventured into so many different avenues of music if I didn't hear those albums back then.

I think some of us fall into the trap of believing in nostalgia's perfection. I know I certainly do. But then I hear new shit that blows my mind and get excited about right now. Like CHEB!
