The word change and the feeling and idea of its acceptance is appearing all around us these days. This is a good thing. There have been a lot of changes in the world since we started playing music together, but the changes today feel bigger than ever before and we’re feeling them immensely. We’re learning together and slowly finding a foothold in this tumultuous time. In the sense of being ourselves it is important for us to keep creating and sharing with you out there. It is also important for us to contribute to positive changes around us. People are changing and as we do, so does our environment, sending us on a feedback loop that needs all we have to reverse course and move in a positive direction. So today we’re sharing a couple of early shows and donating the funds to the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, and the Climate Justice Alliance - two groups working to make that happen for the communities most impacted by environmental destruction and climate change. And speaking of feedback loops…these shows have a lot of them. Brace yourselves. May 9, 2001 at Free 103.9 FM in Brooklyn, NY. Super short set aired over the radio (we think) on a bill with Black Dice, Animals, and !!!. And then a slightly longer one from sometime in April, 2002 at the Hideout in Chicago, IL. Currituck Co. played as well.

e: can someone with IG ask avey if the 2001 tracks have titles?

1st set

- infant dressing table
- native belle
- panic
- hey light
- slippi

Second set is most likely improvisations after Pumpkin Gets a Snakebite. This is from one of the past AMAs the dudes did

Q: What’s up Avey! Short question but what was the process of creating the music on Hollinndagain, my personal fave AC album? Thanks!!!

A: Back then it was definitely more of a clear cut mix between free form music and something written. I guess in the same way tangerine reef is. A lot of those songs we would have an idea that we could express verbally like "lets repeat in time in time in time in time here and then do this here" if that makes sense. Then we would just try these different things out and make them work in a composition. It wasn't so much about noah or i writing a song. It was also really composed with the intent of being played live and creating an experience.

Yeah im still processing that we got 2 old school sets. Like what a blessing considering how rare these eras are. Couldnt have arrived at a more perfect time. Hopefully we'll see another one in our lifetime but for an ac fan this is the holy grail. Thank you anco again !

:drugz:

PS - does anyone know how the original 103.9 recording was acquired ?

Sounds like a washing machine tumbling down a staircase of deconstructed 8-bit video game soundtracks and busted radios tuned to some station in the heart of Nunavut at night. Incredible, in other words.

Sorry but in terms of ambient/noise/experimental music I’m not sure anything tops “Infant Dressing Table” in the last 30 years. Prove me wrong.

Not sure if this is too electronic but I’ve been hyping “pendulu hv moda” by Autechre as the best experimental thing ever

Also this is over thirty years old but “1, 2, 1-2-3-4” by Gavin Briars is phenomenal

this is a better performance of slippi than the Tonic show and i love hearing both of them, but it totally shows how perfectly performed (and mixed!) the album cut is. it's a hard song! i can believe recording the album nearly broke the band up
