Uncle Donut is weird, I fucking love it but I also kind of think it doesn't really make sense structurally, like it doesn't seem to be building toward anything. It's like it teases toward moments that seem like they could be climactic, but the song as a whole ends up feeling very static. It's somewhat frustrating because I absolutely love everything else about it.
Side B is amazing. Enjoy the change really impressed. I liked it a lot in 2017 and not as much when he played it live this year but this might be the best of both worlds and better than both. Uncle donut is legitimately weird in all the ways that much of AC’s earlier stuff was that they have all gradually moved away from. His vocals at 3:30 are so bizarre and amazing
I’ve been loving side A since he released it. This EP really delivers.
I think there's something about shorter formats that the guys are really stoked on. This, Homies, Water Curses, FBK, People, Prospect, The Reaper EPs... I mean their EP's often seem to have peaks even higher than the associated LP and like we've definitely acknowledged that before but I think its just something intrinsic to the EP length that leads to this.
this shit rocks, Uncle Donut is crazy and sick. Enjoy the Change is kind of massive. Fucking great shit.
Dog/Tipped in don't quite fit with these but if you add them, you have bassssically another Down There (short, sweet, dark) . maybe throw in live Eyes/Mayan sheeeeeittttt.
It's like cows is sweet and in a way this makes me appreciate it more, but I like how this is spacier and a lil weirder and ummmm darker (for lack of a better word...)
I made a playlist mixing the birds & cows along with PB’s a day with the homies and buoys and honestly that would’ve been such a bomb ass AC record! Seriously though uncle donut follow by sunset is so beautiful! Midnight special followed Dolphin is ungodly amazing
Officially rescinding my previous Uncle Donut post. I get it now and it's amazing. Only complaint is that part where he sings along with that high synth melody is so good, wish that happened more than once in the song!!
Wow. “Enjoy the Change” is my favorite thing he’s done in a long time. I’m floored by this song. Gives me chills. Wow. This could have been the centerpiece of Cows. That little bit of moaning autotune at the end. The driving beat. He sounds drunk. I freakin’ love this.
just listened to the EP for the first time, and i thought it was lovely. initial impression is i like the mellower, drawn-out energy of the first half better, but i feel like the second half will grow on me. avey's been on such a tear this year!

I can’t get over this segment. I love it so much, it makes me want to dance and jump around in my underwear. I kind of feel like enjoy the change could have led into rlws because of the ending but may have been a space adjustment like person pitch, idk. This is a wonderful release. It’s “kinda bonkers” in it’s own avey tare way. One of the best ways i know.
uncle donut is fucked up in the best way.
enjoy the change is taking some time to sink my teeth into... the vocal effect is a lot, can't really hear past that yet but I'll get there.
one thing I've noticed avey keeps doing is this constant 8th note kick drum thing. It's here on enjoy the change, it's on remember mayan, it's in one section of cherokee... I get the effect he's going for but I find it stilted and tiring. anyone else bothered by this?

Starting to run out of things to say in terms of how better they just keep getting. Not enough words do justice at this point. I feel like at this point ill have to start focusing on their flaws which is none ... still ... They have reached as close to perfection as possible if they have not already at least in my book. They been already in my opinion but this just so all the more proves their status as one of a kind in our generation. This band has truly blessed us all all this time. What more can be said ? Thank you again ac
goddamn wax won't get her til next THURSDAY apparently w/ ballet slippers smdh. I wanted to listen to those all day today, but I guess will have to next weekend wowwwww Domino smh.
My favorite Avey album would probably be this ep as the side 1 of a full LP and the second side would be like my faves from Cows (Saturdays, Mayan, Our Little Chapter, HORS_, WtGS)
Enjoy the Change is so massive and really gets me. sad shit. but like in a hype, fucked and twisted kinda way. His best song since like A Sender? or Your Card (as in Slasher highlights..) More epic and good tho
Don't tootttttally get why it didn't open Cows but I guess he just pictured it for something different or was still fleshing it out. wonder when this was recorded, like before or after he jammed it w/ deak/Jeremy?
its god level. we get like an epic prog freak opener for side B and this like heavy, slow dirge-ballad for side a, rad.
I'm ok with the material from this EP being separate from Cows. I'm getting entirely different vibes from it. Change is an instant classic, even with the odd vocal choice and I'm glad Donut survived intact. Giving me flashbacks to the unexpected dancey vibe at the Mothlight show a couple years back. Rest of the songs are pretty killer too.
listen to enjoy the change at 1.25x speed on youtube
thank you seriously thank you

i am wondering if i'm alone in this, when i first heard the vocals i went from stank face to straight-faced instantly. i was kinda mad lol.... but every listen it's sounding less out of place and more like it belongs so i feel like by the end of the week i'll be cured.

nice one Fov, making this up in Spotify and listening to it on the commute tmrw
also, unrelated but i feel like Uncle Donut has a similar shuffle to one of the Four Tet tracks that came out this year (mostly from what sounds like an open hi-hat-like sound at the end of the drum loop on Donut and the clunky samples on Only Human at around :15)
listen to enjoy the change at 1.25x speed on youtube
Same effect can be achieved with VLC media player and then you can record and save an MP3 for anyone who isn't thrilled with slow tempo Enjoy the Change
I personally think it might be about him being ready to have a kid. The "pal child" is both his inner child and his potential future child, and he's talking to one in order to communicate to the other. Curious what everyone else thinks though. Beautiful song
and I like his two things for avey soooooo much more than the panda stuff.
mostly just cuz the novelty of it compared to what we've come to expect since reaper with the alien ladies. not that im mad, like we truly dont deserve the visuals for Homies Digital but ya its cool to see him do something different than bald alien lady dancing and bright poppy color freak-outs
Uncle Donut is a loving homage to Container + Terrestrial Tones + Black Dice circa Creature Comforts/ Broken Ear Record/ Load Blown (yeah that whole stretch).
Miss Secret came on on youtube after I watched the vid and it was just like damn this dude is capable of a whoooole variety pack of vibes. DT, Slasher, Euc., Meeting of Waters, Cows/Birds might actually contain the essence of every genre of music across their combined ~3 hrs or so of run time
