i abstained from mothlight recording so these bird trax would be freshhh and there's some interesting sounds and textures for sure and i love to see him embrace the weird with these arrangements...i can see why these songs ended up as afterthoughts though, don't really envision myself revisiting this much after the honeymoon phase is over...

I'm glad the autotune on enjoy the change is much less pronounced than it was on the cows tour, I remember the vocals being really irritating live. but this sounds awesome

I kind of feel the same way. I enjoy the visuals in the videos much more than the songs themselves which is unusual. I guess I have never really fallen in love with the extremely ambient meandering a-melodical style tracks Avey had done.

Ya it totally sucks that we will probably never get studio releases of slow words, song for Jerome or photographs (which is another favorite of mine). I say never bc it’s totally obvious what and who those songs were about (his exwife) and I’m sure he’d rather forget about that whole situation as much as possible. Such a shame though bc those are some of the most powerful, rawest, emotional performances from him. When I was going through a tough breakup many years ago, I used to play those songs over and over bc they brought me such comfort.
It still kills me to this day that it was only weeks after his Chicago stop for that tour is when I first heard of them and other than the 2017 Avey show, I’d trade in every show I’ve ever seen them at just for that one

Uncle Donut is weird, I fucking love it but I also kind of think it doesn't really make sense structurally, like it doesn't seem to be building toward anything. It's like it teases toward moments that seem like they could be climactic, but the song as a whole ends up feeling very static. It's somewhat frustrating because I absolutely love everything else about it.
