hearing the three part harmony on shepherd tone clearly feels like I can finally crack the da vinci code

also the vocals are not re-recorded, they're just dry af. the dryest pb's ever been on record in a lot of places

I haven't seen anyone notice this from the Domino release statement yet

I'm betting that's where some of the odd changes like the super dry/up front vocals on Part of the Math came from.

I'm for sure warming up to the Rusty mixes, as I'm often hasty with my judgement of their releases. But at this point, I still feel like POTM greatly suffered by dropping the bass entirely from that beat. Mind you, I was listening to the vinyl directly on my roommate's hi-fi setup, so the bass hit a lot cleaner and wasn't this overblown muck, but the fact that its GONE ENTIRELY just kills that one for me.

side note: I keep forgetting about the peacock sample he added to sunset, so it kinda startles me each time, I love it.

Fuck the vinyl rip! If youโ€™re seriously still hearing better sound from the vinyl PM me and Iโ€™ll buy you a pair of decent headphones. Iโ€™m not joking; this needs to be heard with something better than shitty laptop speakers or basic bitch headphones.

you get that the vinyl release is a proper mix and not just some tossed off demos or something, right? just because there is a new digital mix doesn't mean it should automatically be everybody's preferred one and treated as undeniably the best.

technically i'd say the vinyl version of day with homies is the most faithful a studio recording has been to ac's sound

i agree with this, especially since we'd only heard the songs from one or two shows beforehand. the desert daze show was immediately striking as a stylistic departure, heavier beats etc, and the vinyl totally delivered

but i don't think that means it's a quality judgment at all. just that the record flows a lot like the shows did

Just remembered an interview where Panda said that these songs were deliberately very minimal and sounded like there were parts missing. Was just thinking how interesting that approach is and how much I appreciate what he's going for with these songs. It's such a special thing to pull off, the fact that he gets these songs to work with mostly just very dry bass synth, drum machines and vocals makes for a really personal and unique experience.

Listening to this on the proper headphones and this is absolutely throbbing with bass. Sounds amazing. This is so far ahead of the vinyl to me, in every respect. So much more detail and energy, less reliant on blown out boomy bass for impact.

I love the digital mix, it seems to have a lot more clarity to my ears, less muddied, more defined and rounded. The vocals have more space and depth to them, and it allows these great melodies to really shine. The little extra flourishes in some of the songs are great, especially in Flight. Nod to the folks really shines on the digital mix, and even with the missing intro (which I do miss) Sunset sounds so much more clear and beautiful, like golden sunlight glistening off of a rippling pond at sunset. All and all, I am just grateful I have more opportunity to listen to this great album.
