Yeah I will be sad if we don't hear a finished or even a demo version Magicians form Baltimore ever.

almost as sad as I still am about Song for Jerome

EDIT: listening to meow wolf boot for first time and am hearing "(once again)" for the first time-------- is that Deakin? legit sounds like it could be him or Avey at different moments. breath taking. holy shit my brain is being massaged.

Next page’d could someone confirm if they drop any juicy deets? It’s a short interview, but they mention the new album.

The second half of Passerby is the best thing they've done in years and if Avey doesn't keep that vocal effect in the studio I will drive my car off the grand canyon

Also nothing too juicy in that interview, Geo just mentions that they're playing new stuff but haven't recorded any of it yet, and that they've all been listening to a lot of jazz recently. Which I think we've all picked up on just from hearing the boots.

literally same, i'll hop in the passenger seat with ya

was EXTREMELY weirded out when i heard this stuff live for the first time, especially since the first one i heard was gem and i directly after banshee beat, but the more i listen the more i love it. sooooo excited for passerby and kings. some really fun sounding jams (strangers, cherokee) too.

Here's what I'm thinking: Cherokee is track 2, and KINGS is track 1. I think that would be perfect.

This is also my guess, I'm betting on an opening sequence of Kings > Cherokee > 24. Would be such a cool shakeup for the opening of an AC album, every album opener has been a big important track since at least Feels.

GOD SAME that song was so amazing. but I feel like... the point of the tour was partly to try out other new songs, and they got to try that one out already/perfect it.

I'm really thinking theres a double album on the way..... SO much to chew on.

I imagine Defeat coming out separately to the album, on the follow up EP. only due to it's length and the possibly unwieldy nature that brings to an album flow

Wow I don't see the similarity at all, Amanita is such an epic, winding closer, while Bolder feels like a lighthearted simple tune. We'll see how it ends up sounding in studio though (I feel like every single comment related to the new stuff includes that sentence lol).

Gem and I and Bolder were paired up for the shows on the 11th and 13th (neither were played on the 12th), maybe they'll stick with that..?

Also I think a proper double album really isn't far fetched. Sung Tongs through Centipede Hz were all pressed on two records; they'd just be filling up that extra twentyish minutes of space. Using just the new songs they've been playing live, I'm thinking something like...
Spoiler: show
Side A

1. Kings
2. Cherokee
3. 24
4. Stride Right

Side B

1. Strangers
2. Passerby
3. Dragon Slayer
4. Appreciate

Side C

1. Gem and I
2. Bolder
3. Down Down Down
4. Prester John

Side D

1. Defeat

the new material just keeps growing on me so much, and the demoitis from music box defeat is fading away and i am totally loving this new version now! :) all the material is so good i feel like if i tried to pick my favorites i could only narrow it down to like 8 or 9 songs, that's when you know it's gonna be a great album lol

damn guys that second half passerby

I'm a passerby
Sweet talkin, ladies found me
I would try
I like to cry
They carry the bottle, why
Exit and it clears
The world around me, crazy
But I wouldn't miss
A moment's bliss

I'm the passerby
Truth talkin, lady found me
I would try
I have to pry
They carry the bottle, why
Exit kinda brisk
World around me, crazy
But I wouldn't miss
A moment's bliss

i love the autotune as a live feature, where a little looseness is expected, but i'm intrigued to see what it becomes as a studio tool when it needs to be so controlled and tight to be perfect. it seems like there's a lot of room there to fuck it up, in either the good way or the bad way. i don't want it to be conceptually or sonically thin

Ya I don't know how much of it they'll even bring to the studio. The vocal effects on Buoys ended up being quite modest compared to the live counterpart. It sounds great on Bolder, for example, but think it would come off as goofy on something like Down Down in studio. We'll see.

I surprisingly like the touches of autotune. It reminds me of when they were experimenting with hocketing. Bolder is the one song where it hasn't rubbed me the right way.

Dragonslayer
Prestor John
Passerby

are all fantastic

Conceptual thinness is a really good way of putting it, and I think it's something that great artists in their later careers are somewhat prone to *cough*theflaminglips*cough*

listening to the boots and im really really excited for what they're gonna do with this stuff. the magic is back babyyy

i was kind of concerned for a bit after seeing them at desert daze when they opened with banshee beat (which was absolutely beautiful) and went straight into gem and i... i was not digging it AT ALL. i thought it sounded like carnie dub music lmao, then they did bolder, which got my attention, then passerby launched me into the sun. revisiting this and im loving the direction they're heading in.

dont get me wrong, i dig it a lot now, but after abstaining from listening to the boots and hearing the melancholy of banshee beat in a stoned daze, getting snapped out of it by three snare clicks followed by synth plunks, dub drums, and panda's live voice (NNNguuudaaSAAAWWNUHHHgraaaaa) was not what i expected at all lmao

yeah this is all lit as hell. tbh, I don't really get the version of Kings I heard. in the recording I had, panda sounded too loud and a little obnoxious lol. but def could be sweet.

Cherokee and Passerby autotune is craaazzzzzzy, esp, their respective endings/climaxes. And then Bolder is super nuts as well, feel like it could be a single that would turn a lot of heads for people who thought this band stopped developing...

love the weird lounge-jazz-psyche + autotune, thats such a weird vibe. loving this soooo much. new Prester John is amazing but slightly less so if you know the way-different Nola version..
