St Paul baby! Awesome awesome show. Cant get enough Maestro haha. That dude's drums tho. Thanks band was tight, the venue was perfect. Met another CA'er there and had a good long chat with him which was fun. All in all, incredible time. Saw Avey and Deak and Maestro but chilling in the crowd before their set but felt too awkward to just go up and gush, oh well. Next time. Cheers

Yeah, the sound was fantastic but I'm even taller than you and I couldn't see a thing. Was Jeremy lower than Josh and Dave? I think it's unfortunately more of a DJ type venue.

I can't confirm, but he was either sitting literally cross legged on the floor, or was lower than dave and josh.

Do you remember the setlist, I can't believe .fm hasn't updated, I woulda taken notes if I knew I needed to!

Was there as well, incredible show. So bummed they sold out of the white cow shirts by the time they reached MN.

I think Avey is trying to make Maestro happen as Jeremy's moniker. Sounds like an honorary induction to me. Also, I spoke with Avey and Deak after the show. Can confirm it was awkward. Still glad I did it though. Deakin was much easier for me to approach and talk to. I was unreasonably nervous by the time I got to Dave.

HORS was definitely early in the set, maybe first? Lemonade for sure was the end of the show.

I’m going to the show but skipping Jabon since I still have some packing to do for a move on Saturday. If I see you in there I’ll say hi!

forgot to post earlier but the Chicago show was so amazing, venue was pretty cool intimate space. I was also a big fan of the live sound and the setup for this tour. it almost felt like a weird garage-y psych rock version of AC at times. Enjoy the Change was such a fucking jam, the end of the song got into some Nothing Ever Happened territory, so wild. Deakin's gutiar and backup vocals were an amazing addition to these songs, and in some of the slower moments when Avey and Deak were both on guitar you could hear some of the Feels guitar sound coming through, it was beautiful

I loved this version of When You Left Me. always cool when Avey brings out the dub influence to the forefront of the music and Jeremy's minimal drums were perfect, almost reminded me of the quiet parts of That It Wont Grow

the nothing ever happened thing- i noticed the same thing in brooklyn. the end of enjoy the same definitely reminded me of deerhunters live shows

i would really really like this. Panda mentioned he role may or may not involve drums/percussion so we will see. i cant imagine them performing without jeremy this fall. i cant see why they wouldnt want him involved on the next album. his solo music is great and i think theres a place for him in the recording process

(setlist spoilers)

Seattle show was excellent, live versions of Saturdays and HORS_ blew my mind in a way the studio versions didn't. also loved all the transitions as usual, especially the transition into Mayan and the intro to Enjoy the Change. the autotune on Enjoy the Change was confusing to me though because it sounded really out of whack with the song, which was otherwise epic. loved hearing Heads Hammock, that was my favorite song from Down There and it translated super well into the full band setting (and the autotune actually worked), and it was cool to hear yet another version of When You Left Me though the version on his last solo tour was a lot better. also both Avey and Deakin were wearing some great hats!

Impressions of Seattle show:
Spoiler: show
That autotune was awful last night wtf. Really threw me off. Thought it kind of ruined “Heads Hammock” too. Wild to see Avey on bass guitar for much of the set. Avey/Maestro combo gave the songs a really dubby vibe. Good to see Deakin but he didn’t seem very into it. He kept looking at Avey in kind of an accusatory way. Can’t say I’m surprised he hasn’t been a big part of the band recently... just sensed a real negativity there. Hope I’m misreading that. Avey was so much more the performer, like when he did some finger tapping on his guitar (which song was that?) and kind of leaned out like “ch-yeah.” Dude is such an elfin magician!

“Eyes” and “Lemonade” (felt like a Feels song to me in its live incarnation... a good thing!) were the highlights for me, though for some reason the show wasn’t the revelatory experience that the record was for me, or that the Painting With era shows were for me. Jeremy is an incredible musician — hope the boys keep him around.

Setlist (I think):

HORS_
Remember Mayan
Eyes On Eyes
Nostalgia in Lemonade
What’s the Goodside?
Enjoy the Change
Saturdays
Heads Hammock
Taken Boy
When You Left Me
K.C. Yours

I think Deakin was just looking over at Avey to keep in time with him. I didn't sense any negativity there, I thought he did a great job and added a lot to the songs

Deakin wasn't on Painting With but he's still super involved with the band, just look at Tangerine Reef and the Music Box Village shows from last year

I know haha. I’ve seen the band play a lot over the years. The dynamic this time just seemed off to me. I shouldn’t judge Deakin like that... maybe i was projecting! Great to see him onstage again, smiley or not :D

He's probably really determined to get things right with a set of songs he didn't write or contribute to which his best mate and bandleader has just released.

Just realized the lyrics to the bridge in Heads Hammock are:
"I don't mind uncertainty, uncertainty don't mind me"

After years of thinking it was "I dont want to slow you down, but you keep going by me"

Maybe try the official AC account, I have gotten permission from that account multiple times. For both avey shows and AC shows.

If you dont get a response just show up with the recorder and ask the staff, sometimes they can check with the band. These boys usually have no problem with recording.

I thought some of the new songs' live arrangements last night were genius. Others not as much. But overall, yes, a great show.

I recorded audio of Avey's full set, plus video of Eyes and K.C. I'll be away until the end of next week, so look for my links to these then.

(As for recording permssion, The Chapel in SF goes with whatever the artist's policy is, so there was no problem last night.)
