But you can say that about nearly any rock and roll/alternative band from the 60's on. The rolling stones for example. AC is not special in this regard.

If you're trying to say that AC is different than broadway and classical music/choral music, then sure, but what even about Organum music from the early renaissance? Each vowel in that music was sung over about 3 min each, def not standard music practices.

I just noticed there are not many drums on the record, mostly high hats, some kicks here and there, few snares. But it does not sounds like it lacks any because of the huge bass.
This record is growing on me like crazy. It's something else. Everytime I listen to it on my headphone, it's sounds perfect.
The more I listen to it, the more I am impressed by it.
I love Grimreaper but there was a few track that I was not fan of (05 Butcher Baker Candlestick Maker,10 Lonely Wanderer) but this one is the perfect lenght, 9 tracks 25 or something minutes. I can play it in full and on repeat whitout thinking about it.
Also there are a lot of perfect little moments in the record that reminds me of young prayer in which his intonation and singing is a bit special and not drowned it the mix (which I also love on the other release).

.I just love it and it comes from a person who was a bit disapointed after listening to the freebird even tho I saw him live in Paris. A show I considere my favorite ever.
The homies EP and now this record, it might be my favorite panda bear on two punch whiyh young prayer and person pitch.
So yeah that record slaps and I am happy I love it after beeing a bit sceptical at first, or unexcited? which maybe would be a better way to express how I felt after the Homies EP fucked me up.

I'm glad ur so psyched on it Dallou lol, I feel all of that! I love the minimal use of drums and how everything feels so wide open and empty and how the bass fills that space. The production and the way the songs are constructed feels really fresh, but I also just really love the songs and the melodies and the way the album progresses from song to song. Short albums rule

Tomboy has long been my fav PB record, so I feel validated lol. Although Buoys will probably topple it for first place tbh. Interesting to hear him talk about Friendship Bracelet. It was always my least favourite but that thing about it slowly rising up and up is really interesting, and something I'd never picked up on. Good prompt to listen again and reconsider - I'd always dismissed it as a meandering and directionless track

omg yes I love Friendship Bracelet especially the chord changes so I was really happy to read him say that! I've talked about it before but it's crazy, each verse (or idk if you would call them verse but I just mean the sections in the first part of the song) goes up a half-step higher from the last one, which causes that weird subtle rising effect, it's kinda hard to notice it unless you actually look at the chord changes. also it's even more complicated because within each of those sections there are more key changes, so it's like key changes on key changes. He practically cycles through every major and minor chord there is lol. But besides that aspect of it I just like the song a lot, it's a weird one for him but it's pretty emotional and moving imo

definitely would have preferred that. i remember an interview where noah said he didn't like principe real or he didn't like how it turned out or something, said he had no interest in playing it live. so that sounds like it makes sense. and faces in the crowd kills, maybe in the top 5 songs from that era for me

Anyway, Buoys is definitely my second favourite behind Person Pitch. The more I listen, the more both the subtleties and impact of the sparse elements grow stronger. It's so so refreshing in comparison to both TB and GR which lean very heavily on a certain vocal style he'd already perfected off the bat with PP. This has echoes of that sound but it's much bolder and more stark than anything since YP.

This is where I'm at, too. And I think it's a lovely position to be in.
Though I'm suspecting what I like about Buoys is what I'm not getting from the boots. Whereas TB and GR material was so tasty in their live forms.

If Panda visited the PNW I'd absolutely still buy a ticket. But I would be kinda nervous about the show tarnishing (maybe the wrong word) the Buoys tunes. IDK.

The thing about Tombouys is that I cannot imagine putting Person Pitch 3rd place and yet here we are. Even though I conceptually enjoy longer albums (or small albums with multiple eps - radiohead are masters of thisish) I think GREAPERs big old thing just disqualifies it because like several folks have said, being able to loop bouys just slaps and Tomboy is kind of its own thing because of how precious it is.

This record is perfect, Noah is an angel. This is becoming my go to record whenever I am drunk and it works perfectly. (drunk and sober).
This one might be up there with person pitch and young prayer for me. Too soon to tell but I am definitly amazed and happy by how much I love it. Might be my favorite record from anyone since the A day with the homies, lol, such a stan things to say but it's just how I feel.And I did not see this coming at all.

buoys reminds me that panda bear made danse manatee and campfire songs. you can listen to the album in terms of its songs, hearing the melody, singing along, listening to the guitar chords etc. but there's another level of listening where you can just appreciate the sound, at the tiniest levels, and there's so much subtlety there. it reminds me of listening to those early albums
