i'm keeping my expectations in check, anticipating that a decent amount of the songs don't make it onto the album, but as long as we get most of them i'll be happy. i'll be pretty upset if it's mostly new material/all new stuff tho. if that ends up happening i'll just have to assume from now on that anything avey debuts live will just not be recorded lol
I like most if not all of the new songs both from mothlight and the eucalyptus tour. For some reason I really want disc one/two more than the others even though it seems highly unlikely given it was only played once. Either way, any new stuff would be welcome and very exciting news if it is true. I listened to mothlight boot while running / exercising way more than it made normal sense for.
I am getting the feeling that most music news websites have been told by Domino not to publish any speculations of the album release. I've been in touch with Pitchfork, Stereogum and others who openly posted about the speculation of Tangerine Reef before it was officially announced but they have made no mention of the release despite it appearing in many online catalogues. That got me thinking maybe the announcement is something Avey/Domino have specifically planned. This also got me thinking about the fact that Avey plays the Big Ears festival a day before "cows" gets released. What if... his plan is to play "cows" in its entirety at Big Ears and then announce that the album comes out the next day!? What if!?!?!?

i mean, they openly posted about the tangerine reef speculation because a new animal collective album is a huge news story and a new avey tare album is not.
if he was going to announce it the day before it drops then it wouldn't have shown up on online stores 2 months ahead of time for a physical release on that day. probably gonna get announced this week or in the next couple.

Yeah maybe they're just waiting on Buoys to come out so it doesn't take away from it.
Stereogums pretty good at announcing any AC related news even if it's just Dave. They made a post about him playing Big Ears and posted about his solo coral demos. Who knows. The only thing that's a bit suspect is that normally they email me back after I give them stories (p4k, CoS and stereogum), even if it's just about Geologist demo tracks... but no word this time around.
I hope we hear about it sooner than later, I'm losing sleep checking that ascap page every five minutes.
I was mad high yesternight building the sickest park in Jurassic World: Evolution while listening to boots from the Music Box performances when suddenly this train of thought came rolling through my brain station:
What if... Cows on Hour Glass Pond contains songs from the Music Box performance???
I know what you're thinking... it's unlikely buuuuuut hear me out:
The first track from the music box set is "Sundown with Cecil"... which originally appeared a few months earlier on Geo's NTS show as a solo Geologist track. This means it was repurposed as a "band" track for the performance.
"Downdowndowndown" was played by Deaks on most of his solo shows last fall with GGD. It feels quite complete in his solo rendition which got me thinking maybe that track was also repurposed as a "band" track for the performance.
IF these assumptions are accurate... then maybe some of Avey's contributions to the set were also solo songs that were repurposed for the event. After all they have mentioned that they got everything ready for the performance in the 4 days leading up to the show, which seems like an insanely short amount of time to write all of those masterpieces from scratch.
I also had another thought to back up this wild theory. That is that all of the songs that came out of the Eucalyptus tour sound like they are in that same vein as the songs from Eucalyptus itself. Would Dave really release a follow up album that so closely matched the tone of his last one? Sure he could have different instrumentation for some of the tracks, i.e. Mothlight versions of Eyes on Eyes and Sew Happy and all that.
In any event, I will literally die if I see Defeat (A Not Suite) as the closer track on Cows on Hourglass Pond.
PS. Doesn't "Prestor John" feel like it would fit nicely on an album called "Cows on Hourglass Pond"?
I feel like they're saving the Music Box Village songs for the next AC LP, but that theory's possible since we still don't know anything about Cows
I disagree about the Eucalyptus tour songs though, to me they have a pretty different vibe from Eucalyptus, more electronic and beat-heavy. plus he could always change up the instrumentation on them like you said

Yeah the new ones are mostly (if not all?) played over drum loops. Pretty wildly different from the music box stuff. Not a bad idea, though the MB stuff definitely sounds more full-band to me.
if any of the music box tracks were gonna end up on this, i feel like tri-kid would work pretty well? fits in with all the other kinda bouncy synthy stuff.

you're at the beach and i'm in some strange bed
music box stuff is def slower moving, "swampier" and a little jazier then the strummy beat filled change-embracing melancholy of mothlight and other avey solo stuff
