I can't believe SJ is davey's least favorite. Also it's really unfortunate that this ends right before what would undoubtedly be the most interesting part: The Hz

Yeah pretty MPP focused to be called a history of the band, but a really interesting write up nonetheless... Wish I was a fan back then!

I still haven't had the chance to read this yet but I was messaging w a guy on the spiritposting fb group who was involved in producing this, and he said the unedited version of the interviews was around 90,000 words (!!) which they eventually cut down to the 10,000 words in the final version. So I'm sure there's plenty of stuff about other eras that they had to leave out. He said they basically had enough material to write a small book

Are they still together?

I shouldn't care but I would really like him to be happy, it's that rather than any gossip.

Finally got around to reading this and loved it so much :)

I think that at this point Merriweather has been assessed and re-assessed so many times over that it's easy to overlook just how incredible it is, not just the music itself but what it represents as an accomplishment for the band and experimental music in general.

I really admire how AC is always real as fuck and always push themselves to create something powerful and compelling and totally unique. Their music is so strange and special for so many reasons, and it deserves to be recognized for those qualities, but there's so much great experimental music that goes unnoticed because people just don't care about it. Sometimes it makes me cynical but when I think about Merriweather and how the band were able to capture this moment and connect with so many people, it's seriously inspiring. What Sonic Boom said about it was beautiful - "The sort of record that makes you question the concepts and trajectories of life – to help us relate deeply to each other, and make sense of it all, through this common experience."

It makes me so happy that this weird music could resonate with so many people, and it personally means so much to me just like many others here on the forum I'm sure. Music is like all I think about all day long and AC (and really specifically Merriweather) was the thing that opened the floodgates for me with music, it opened my ears to experimental music and by extension is why I listen to all the music I listen to today. And it's what led me to this forum where I've found these amazing like minded people and I'm so grateful for that. Reading this oral history just reminds me how precious all of that is and how I kinda take it for granted - I know it sounds hyperbolic but it's a life changing album. lol

Also have to say it makes me sad that I wasn't really there for MPP as a moment. I heard a couple AC songs in 2009 and didn't like them, and I only really got into the band like 4 years after that, so at least the oral history is a nice way to vicariously relive some of the excitement around the album's release.

I really like what Geo said about Person Pitch being the most redefining album for sampling since Paul's Bouique. That's a huge claim to make but I can see the argument tbh

cool to hear the domino guy and abby talk about how special the 2009 prospect park shows were for both of them and the band, the second prospect park show was my first AC show and it was so magical. first time they played graze post-mpp! everyone shit bricks because we thought the song was dead as a doornail like from a beach, and they opened the show with it too! absolute mind blower. will be 10 years next summer...
