My guess is campfire songs. they might not consider spirit stuff to be truly "animal collective," although if it was a spirit song it'll be penny dreadfuls

I guess my bummer of a time at nyu inspired me to write some of the songs on spirit such as alvin row and april and the phantom and chocolate girl all of which i can remember writing and recording on a four track in my sophmore year dorm room. The rest of the songs i either wrote when i was younger (ie penny dreadfuls) or right when we were recording.

Seems to suggest there was more than one song that he wrote when he was a teen

also I don't know why I made that post, I was trying to be funny but out of context it probably sounds way worse than I meant it to. The context is I just spend too much time on my phone making dumb memes and it's distracting sometimes. Just a bad habit I gotta break
