totally agree. just goes to show how clued in brian is to what the other guys are doing, y'know? :deakweep:
He said in an interview (or maybe on CA) that he didn't actually perform on that track with the other guys but they credited him because it was one of his samples they used. I think?
EDIT:
"Hi, Geo here. I actually didn't really play on Baleen Sample. All those sounds of mine on there were on a minidisc Dave found that we'd used in performance many years earlier for band we had called Come Winter. They were all horror movie samples. It's not whales at all. Dave and Josh processed them somehow and stuck them in that song, but I didn't know about it until I saw the credits."

Yes! The Mayan and Ono Lemonade are hands down my favourites of the new Avey tracks. (maybe midnight special too but I haven't listened to that as much)

Suuuper excitedly to hear that
i just want to take a second to point out all the AC stuff from the recent past and the near future (in no particular order):
-2 new panda bear eps a tour (w/ geo set)
-80 min of new AC music, arguably/potentially some of their best ever, just played in new orleans
-whole different set of music to be performed at the david lynch fest in may
-sung tongs show/tour
-like 15 unreleased avey songs from last year
-eucalyptus
-coral orgy
-that set that deak & geo played at the metro gallery last year
-in the bleak midwinter
-geo's the sirens set
-geo's collab w/ danny at that festival
-geo's opening set when he played with avey late last year
-meeting of the waters
-keep said new deakin cassette in the pipeline (single? ep) with the next deakin shoes
all this on the 'off season' between AC albums/tours. when you lay it all out like that it's crazy how much there is

They said there's a new collab in the works, but no confirmation of new music. A new Tape is a likely guess thoigh

Could be Enjoy the Change. That would kill.
I think Midnight Special could be gone. And Derriere is a purple bottle-esque track four.

Midnight special will either open or close it or be right smack in the middle. so 1 5 or 10

If you're wrong, fancy joining my band?
You can also be manager or substitute drummer (in case the drummer gets injured).

Midnight Special will become a full-band song. It's possible a bunch of them will actually. He hasn't said anywhere that there's an actual LP in the pipeline, has he?

not that i recall. i think when he was clarifying that eucalyptus was not the mothlight material he did say that he was going to record that stuff though. but who knows if every track will make the cut, he has so much material. but yeah midnight special needs to be released, would be a tragedy if it wasn't. easily in the top 3 of all the new avey tracks

Their twenty year anniversary is in two years. Imagine they dropped a double LP for it

the third last question:wrote:Pitchfork: Noah, were your songs on this record written with Animal Collective in mind the whole time, or were they stuff that you worked on your own?
NL: One of them was, one wasn't. "New Town Burnout" was something I did toward the end of writing the songs for [Tomboy], so I took that melody and made the song for the band.
I mean if it doesn't exist, thats cool... but how coooool would it be if it did.....
Thanks !!

I guess Selection of a Place is a solo song that turned into an AC song. I sort of think of the 2 versions as adjacent though, just 2 variations of the same song whereas something like Guys Eyes actually feels like a different song than Song For Ariel

I am back in a Water Curses craze , I am so happy. Like most of you guys I played the old stuff to death but sometimes after a while and when the planets align, it feels like the first time. It's like I am discovering Street Flash all over again, what an amazing feeling. The funny thing is that I remember exactly when and where I heard it for the first time. It was in a bus at 3am going home after a temp work, I was so tired and empty. It was dreamy and perfect.
So happy about all the new stuff too maybe it's a combined things, it's a good time to be an Animal Collective fan.

Such a relatable experience.
Every time I think I’ve over listened to their stuff, I realize there is still something great that I hadn’t explored in years.
Right now it’s Jane’s Berserker. Probably the most underrated release in the AC universe.
It’s really matching this prolonged Wintery weather that the Midwest is experiencing right now. Super foggy and grey, but full of life and hope. Pairs well with SAW II and Eno’s ambient work.
Also Slipping Away is kinda like Nod to the Folks’ evil twin
