sellers receive feedback just like on ebay and generally paypal will cover you if there is an issue with the transaction/seller/record. i've bought a few records and never had any problems.

same. i bought from a dingus who never shipped something and got refunded no problems. just be careful and don't commit to buying something until you're 100% sure you want it. the first thing I ever did on there was click buy on an AC record a few years ago because i just wanted to see what the shipping rates were. when i found out that the shipping was about $20 USD when the item was only $15 i told the seller i wasn't interested. he gave me a neg rep which made making my next few purchases rather difficult since many sellers have settings to not permit buyers with neg reps to purchase from them. you can find shipping rates on the profile of the seller.

tl;dr
don't click buy on discogs until you're actually ready to buy.

I don't really have anything rare, but my most prized item is Centipede Hz vinyl signed by the whole band + Abby Portner. and that fuckin' Keep cassette...bought those goddamn shoes just so I could get that thing...haha.
I've never really made a point of seeking out rare AC vinyl but I'm gonna have to start...really interested in becoming a more avid collector

other vinyl I have: Here Comes the Indian, Sung Tongs, Feels, Strawberry Jam, Merriweather Post Pavilion, Fall Be Kind, Transverse Temporal Gyrus, Honeycomb 7", Person Pitch, Down There
plus a bunch of CDs I never really listen to, and the ODDSAC DVD.

This sucks! I just ordered an OG Hollinndagain from someone on Discogs and this is what he replied with:
---------------------------------------------------------
Hey! Saw that you sent over an order, thanks!
I have some moderately bad news however- A very serious collector contacted me with some interest in the record and mentioned that he would be willing to offer me around 230 USD for it; However, you were one of the first to contact me so i'd rather see it go your way.
Would you be willing to compete with that price? Let me know, let's see if we can't make this one yours.
-----------------------------------------------
Will I ever own a copy of Hollindagain in this cold, cold world of ours? I don't know if I dare go through with the deal, s/he doesn't seem very serious... and I'm definitely not paying more than this person "sold" me the record for on discogs.

Is the Animal Crackbox worth buying? I mean, I'm a completist about collecting AC, but it's hard to justify a hundred bucks....

It's amazing if you are a fan of their earlier material. It's my favorite vinyl and I wouldn't give up our copy for anything. However if it is just going to sit on your shelf and never get listened to because you don't like what's actually on it, don't bother.

$100 is $100 though. Yes it's the coolest thing they've released but if it's just going to sit there it seems like a waste of money at the moment. You could put that $100 (or much less...) on a few of their records you actually like and will actively listen to.

Yeah, I have most of the discography on vinyl. STGSTV, HCTI, Danse, Sung Tongs, Feels, Strawberry Jam, MPP, CHz, FBK, Water Curses, Peacebone, Carrots, Bros, Person Pitch, Tomboy 4LP, Down There, Terrestrial Tones, Wastered, ummm..... like, Applesauce, Honeycomb... probably a few more. I'm definitely in to AC, and definitely in to their vinyl. I've never pulled the trigger on the Crack Box though, but it sounds like I absolutely should, based on what y'all are saying.

But you're right-- $100 is $100, and I could buy 5 other records. Just trying to feel out general opinion here.

Have you listened to a rip of the ACB? If not you should to better gauge how much you like it. Just google it and something should pop up.

that's pretty fucked up. also wouldn't surprise me if they're making up the other collector to try to get you to pay more once you already have the taste of victory.

either way, you probably shouldnt agree to a more expensive price after buying it at a set one. definitely sketchy.

crack box is so rad and comes in the greatest packaging. so thrilled i was able to pick up a copy for my girlfriend for me (xmas present that she wasn't available to bid on) for what seems to be a ridiculously good price. i think i just need spirit and hollindagain to complete their full length discography and then a few stray 7"s here and there.

the tomboy boxset has been that price on paw tracks for at least a month.

they reduced the price, presumably because they have a lot of stock.
