People forgetting/ignoring MOTW

Is it just me, or do people completely forget about meeting of the waters? maybe its because the only people that listened to it were already die-hard fans, who already have go-to anco albums/eps to reach for when looking for that vibe. personally i think it's totally underrated. while the opening track is definitely a little slow, once you get into it theres this deep feeling you get listening to it, especially in the end. the samples and sounds featured in the entire EP are incredible. definitely a response to PW and painters. it kind of bothers me when fans say "they need to pick up their guitars again!!!". Like they totally already did and made a kick ass EP. Man of Oil is a fucking banger for sure
Anyone else appreciate it?

I haven't listened to it in a while but I haven't forgotten about it. It's an awesome release and pretty singular among AC's discog, with it being just Avey & Geo and recorded in a unique setting. I can't think of another group of artists that I think are as deserving of the opportunity to record something like this. I'm also extremely happy we got the Earthworks doc to go along with it.
I think recently maybe people have been more focused on Eucalyptus which kind of came out of nowhere, so that could be why it feels like this has been ignored, but I'm sure many ppl on here are still digging it
I disagree that MotW was a reaction to PW, at least consciously. I mean they've talked about how they like to switch up styles regularly to keep things fresh and novel for themselves and not repeat their past work, so that could be part of it. Mostly I think the dudes just make the music that they're feeling in the moment and for this release that happened to be something quieter and sparser. There are also tons of factors that influenced the sound of this record vs PW: completely different setting, limited instruments available while traveling, the decision to incorporate field recordings from the surrounding environment, etc. I would guess that the dudes think of this as something completely separate from Painting With and not a reaction or apology for it or anything like that

Also worth noting that MOTW was recorded sometime around February 2016, before PW was even released. So it definitely wasn't a reaction to PW's reception.

i can't imagine they care about what people think of their music anyway. they do what they want.

It's brilliant! Atmosphere, melodies, texture, lyrics, Avey's vocals
All top notch
How did they get that guitar to sound so good?

I love how they donated some proceeds to an organization that stops deforestation.
