they're not reviewing the rip. the number seems a bit low (but maybe correct depending on how you interpret it? these kind of numbers on music never actually mean anything rly) but the review itself seems solid.

The weirdest part to me was that there was literally no mention of sunset.

honestly it's not surprising to me that they would give such a low score to a release that's not going to make anyone any $ on streaming services or digital downloads, pitchfork sold out to our corporate overlords long ago when they were bought by conde nast and now their only real purpose is to perpetuate that industry
I think the vinyl-only thing is really going to dampen how the EP is received by a lot of critics, it sorta makes it seem like inconsequential fluff. and that's a shame because these songs are pretty amazing

I think this is his most dark release yet, like for those who prefer the live rehearsal from the grim reaper material, look what you made him do.
I'm sorry, the old Panda can't come to the phone right now
Why?
Oh, 'cause he's dead!

Heyy longtime lurker, can somebody get me a link for this please? Been seeing Spacemen 3 comparisons all over the shop and I need that in my life, Sonic Boom/Spectrum is/are the best. Also hearing dark/sparse/super bassy/Big Beats Get High All the Time here/reddit etc - any similarities to Eric Copeland's Goofballs? That album was sick and it sounds like it was a similar style - just a drum machine, bass synth and sampler. Really hope if this does get turned into a full album with other EPs and stuff that isn't vinyl only haha, or the boards will just be people like me asking for rips...

Attn everyone, don't post a reply asking for a PM, just PM someone directly and ask for a link. You can PM me. Too many posts asking for links clutters the thread
For sure there are Eric Copeland vibes on this, not just Goofballs but all of his last couple albums that are heavy on the beats

Has a better rip surfaced yet?
I am beating the hell out of this! And he has another EP worth of material? Damn!!!!
Guess that means there will be endless mixes of people making an album out of the tracks from both.

Sunset is really sick. I have no idea how you guys are hearing Autechre or jungle in it at all? It is a super straight forward beat. It is perfect though! This EP is amazing. I just wish I had a really good sounding one.

I really would like to read an interview about the record and the making of it and about the way domino react to his request

Here's the info we have about a potential 2nd EP from this guy who followed AC on tour for a few weeks. This was posted in May last year

Noah was very open to talk about his small plans. He actually has two small collections of music ready to record (or possibly even recorded already). He said collections because its fuzzy on whether they are considered albums or just EPs, because they are both just under 30 minutes. Granted he said, its longer than a standard EP, but then again, it feels similar in length to Fall Be Kind. He said at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter to him, and will let the record company decide how to best market it (Two EPs on one CD, two separate albums, etc). He does plan to tour with it sooner than later though. After the summer Painting With Shows wrap up, he will take the fall off, and then hit the road in the winter to promote the new stuff. He didn't say specifically, but it seems that at least part of the tour will take place before the new mini-albums come out. Apparently in terms of the two albums content, they both are going to be musically similar. He said directly that they were very electronic and kinda poppy, and seemed to imply it would be like a introverted, slightly calmer continuation of Painting With, but there will be variety to the sound.

OK so on first listen (cheers jetski!!) I'm a fan. I think it's let down a bit by Flight which is just a bit nothing-y - meandering fairly nice squelches which is pleasant and all but nothing wild (I'm sure it'll grow on me though!) then Part of the Math starts and it is FULL Spacemen 3 stuff and brilliant and Krauty and heavy, easily the standout track (followed by Sunset which is just lovely). EP's real nice overall, not up there with Avey and Deak's latest solo stuff but not at all throwaway or anything. Would be very interested to know what gear's used on it - what drum machine/drum samples and bass synth particularly. Do we reckon it's the same as on PBVGR? Doesn't sound too Moog-y to me but it could well be. The kicks and toms are so hard they're great, need them myself!

Not sure if he's still using the Elektron Octatrack like on pbvsgr but he did tweet a video of him using a Digitakt, also made by Elektron

I kind of want one now, but yeah even more curious what the bass is, especially on flights and sunset. it sounds kind of like a slightly different take on PW bass, which wasn't that teenage engineering op-1? maybe its his moog or something idk

just got an email from AC about the ep release and tour dates, so seems unlikely we get any further announcement or explanation of "bouy" today. they did say they put up a few more copies in the AC store, though, if anyone wants to order one there still.

If they did that some people would be pissed. I'm sure some ppl who preordered the vinyl wouldn't have done so if they knew a digital copy was coming

Quoted both because people are still asking for pms and because you’re right about Eric Copeland. I’ce been listening to Goofballs and other similar stuff recently, so this EP fits very nicely with that stuff

Listening to my vinyl copy. Is this supposed to sound like someone turned the volume up way too loud?

You guys are hilarious. OF COURSE it's supposed to sound like that. LOL at people who thought it was just the rip. The arrogance!

maybe the vinyl rip actually smoothed it over a bit then, like the ripper kept it kinda quiet? idk i guess the bass and some parts do sound distorted a bit, def in part of the math and shepards tone at least

Hmmmm Homies, I like it, fairly consistent production concept, but the middle three tunes seem like a project of their own. Flight is an outlier and not a great song imo. Sunset is great but seems to be more of a pop song squeezed into the production box that the rest of the record is in.
I miss the big spacious sound of Greaper. These sound great live maybe for that reason.
I dunno seems like a typical AC EP

Just got my copy from the local record shop. They only had 1 copy. Not sure how limited this thing really is but I'm glad I went at open.
Glad the dude made this physical only, but I guess I'm biased cuz I got one. I dunno makes the thing feel more real.
Trying to stay clean and not read too much or check out the freebird. All I saw was "sounds like spacemen 3". Fucking what? Fuckin yeah.
