There are definite Meeting of the Waters vibes afoot, and while I try to stay away from the sort of meaningless/boring/too often flipped as criticism trope of that animal collective magic[/i
Spoiler: show

there's definitely something insanely special happening on this album.

The first listen (vinyl, candles, dark, laying prone on a couch) felt like those first few listens to Deak's masterpiece from last year. Definitely marking a change in the aesthetic these guys are interested in producing. I am, more than ever, so psyched for the future of Animal Collective.

Originally, i was hoping they'd just play Merriweather Post Pavillion during their opening set for the Fleet Foxes next weekend at MPP but now I just hope there's a hefty influence by these more recent works in their live show.

the stream is so cool but it's unfortunate the audio has so many cracks in it. i would totes get a dvd with this stream tho.

also it's sad there was never a PBVSGR stream that mimic'ed the live shows :(
what they had wasn't quite the same

nice that it got the "out today" shoutout, even with a link to the visual stream

HAPPY EUCALYPTUS DAY!
If anyone else is having trouble with the audio of the Eucalyptus stream cracking when played on a computer, it works better on a mobile phone. Go to the AC instagram page, click on the aveytare.com link, and scroll down, it's a playlist of the videos (instead of a flash player integrated into the page layout), plays totally smooth! You cannot find this youtube playlist if you go to youtube.com only on mobile through the website (Weird!).

Also has anyone pointed out that the synth noises in Melody Unfair are nearly identical in tone and function to the ones in this Buffy Sainte-Marie song "The Vampire"?

I LOVE Buffy and this is one of my favorite albums/songs of hers, makes sense that Dave is apparently a big fan too!

Yay mine arrived! interesting how the lyrics are double included if you get the deluxe version with the printed booklet and then the inside sleeve. the artwork is really great!

Anyone else's LP have this? I may be nitpicking but this bothers me. Any chance Domino will replace the sleeve?

Noticed on the CD track listing (on the back), track 11 is not "Boat Race" but just "Race." Lyric poster inside calls it "Boat Race" tho...

oh man, the one sold in stores doesnt come with the booklet? that sucks, i was planning on buying it then instead of the crazy shipping price online.

hmm...maybe avey will have the special edition on his tour. so far away tho... :(

lmao basically the exact thing happened to me at Waterloo out here in Austin. I got the only puzzle which is super dope, but I'm also a tad bummed about not getting the booklet. But hey! The album is great so far!!!

Somehow held out and only listened just now. Pretty blown away

Too many things to talk about but just need to say first of all that both parts of Lunch Out of Order are fucking amazing. Someone a while back in the thread mentioned that I'm Your Eagle Kisser could fit in perfectly with this album, I think that's true especially because a lot of these songs have that same irregular, start/stop kind of rhythm. Really love when Avey songs have that kind of rhythm

This version of Selection of the Place is amazing too, I love the added instrumentation, really enhances it for me although I love the stripped-down MotW version too. PJ is pretty nuts, In Pieces is seriously beautiful, Boat Race is amazing

There's a lot to take in, gonna take at least a few more listens to process but I'm feeling very grateful for this rn. Thank you Avey :negative:

Yeah there are a lot of sounds floating around in that track, some very sweet sound fx and layering of sounds in general throughout the album. Excited to dig in and pick out the details

Also the mixing/recording quality is so good, loved how it sounded on headphones. Big up Freaky Deak

aside from the first paragraph the TMT review was really eloquently written and describes the essence of the album pretty well, imo

I don't mind when people dislike CHz and PW but it's kind of an overdone and unoriginal way to start a review about a new AC-related thing

I think it's an excellent review, although his/her descriptions of CHz and PW make them sound more experimental than they are, which is quite weird. Overall, though, yeah. It's a wonderful and refreshing thing to feel that - along with the Mothlight songs, MOTW and Sleep Cycle - the AC creative well is very full.

Without reading the article I just wanna express that I think its sorta a right of passage to put an album of theirs away that doesnt work for you at the time -- and eventually come back when you've sorta forgotten or changed etc and find the album to be totally different than you thought

i think its the difference between actually liking the band or just liking particular songs the band's done

They don't always review things on release day, so they might review it next week or something

scheduling i'd guess. probably will be a top placement review, but not as big a release as the new tyler, the creator (or the new lana, which also hasn't been reviewed yet). maybe it'll get 2nd placement behind lana or something, but i figure it'll get a top review this week.
