After listening to the whole EP...
Kinda Bonkers is still great
Peacemaker's pretty neat. I'm tired of Panda using hocketing as a songwriting technique, it got really tiresome after PW, hoping they don't continue that. It has a neat vibe though.
Goalkeeper is... ok. It's kinda silly, the high pitched synth is annoying, but its an alright song. Honestly, I just can't wait for them to move past this era, lol.
Jimmy Mack is fucking amazing, and easily the best thing to come out of this era, and probably the band since 2010. I can't get over how much wonderful energy it has. It's exciting to hear an AC song with such energy and freedom to it. Does a great job of showing why their songs are always more effective after spending time marinating on tour.

Overall I'm really digging this EP. I'm hesitant to compare it to the rest of their work (even PW, which I still think is pretty good). Honestly it feels sort of like a Panda release, one where I shouldn't expect these giant highs to anticipate, but just sort of get into the groove of each song and let it loop.
None of the songs or moments stand out as bad for me, which I'm really happy for. It flows really well as a piece (Goalkeeper to Jimmy Mack is surprisingly smooth) and I like the pace of all the songs (Kinda Bonkers next to Peacemaker is SO GREAT).
I do feel the length complaints though. I knew going in it was going to be short, but it really just whizzes by. I didn't expect something like Fall Be Kind, which feels so full, but it still felt a bit empty. A bit like how Water Curses sort of floats off for the last two songs I guess.
Still, I'm hyped on all the tracks and am looking forward to a second listen all the way through. I think I'll come to appreciate the shortness overtime, when I'll just want to fit in a mini anco experience somewhere in my day.

A little bummed that the longest song on the EP is a cover...Peacemaker feels kinda dull in all honesty. It had the potential to be agreat song but it doesn't really transition at all. Goalkeeper was pretty decent but Geo's samples get a bit too busy at some points, though the bridge into the chorus is great, definitely seems like a Panda written hook.
Jimmy Mack isn't bad for what it's worth, I just wish they'd have done an original rather than a cover. It's a decently done cover, definitely threw their AnCo charm all over it, but again, it's the longest song on the EP and it's a cover. Kinda concerns me. I overall enjoy Painting With much much MUCH more than anything on this EP. Which is weird because I have had at least one favorite song on every EP they have released but nothing here really stands out.
[edit] You know, I take that last statement back. Kinda Bonkers is a great track, and that hook is infectious as fuck. As far as technicality, arrangement or sonicality, it's nothing special. But the hook/bridge whatever you want to call it (Feel me feel you feel your heart shine, unity of all kind) is great.

i groove really hard to bonkers and peacemaker, and then goalkeeper confuses me and i just want to know what everyone's saying, and then jimmy mack happens, which is a good jimmy mack! one of the greatest jimmy macks, folks.
i just have to get these lyrics now. i gotta say i must be slacking in my care and attention, i haven't even memorized and mastered chz or painting with's words.
i'm a gigantic panda fanboy and laughed heartily at this post, gr8 shi

Peacemaker is fuckin sick, very smooth, approaching a territory/mood they haven't done before.
Goalkeeper is fucking crazy but once that chorus hits it's dragonball af

bass lines on peacekeeper are so sick. those kind of lines r so rare on ac songs (reminds me of how there is actual bass guitar on wwiws). they save that shit for the eps.
man this is so sick, panda can hocket for as long as he fucking wants for all i care. GK is the best thing theyve put put since daily routine/taste so that's cool, jimmy mack is so fucking fun and breezy.
bonkers is my least fave but i like how airy it is and feels kinda slow or chill for this era where almost all songs are fast and pretty relentless. sung tongsy... love this ep, love this band

re: panda clearly being so into this acoustic delay/hocketing thing, i think its sick hes writing all this era's songs in that style, its like getting to see him really feel out this one idea... honestly after mpp, i feel like you can kind of hear panda trying to figure how to write ac songs going forward on stuff like i think i can and new town burnout, and that this must be some sort of revelation for the guy... you guys and yr damn demands
and ya like someone else mentioned, i feel like peacekeeper has a really unique vibe for an ac song, so ya it has that vocal style but its still exploring a new vibe imo... ne ways

also feel like thundercat is on PK and that it might even b a flylo beat actually...

I'm still surprised they recorded Jimmy Mack. I counted on it being a My Girls/Brothersport placeholder. Like ok we're tired of playing these songs here's a song we can play with no obligation to record in studio

i think the ep is really good. it is def way too short though. i mean 12 minutes is, yikes. that's not really an ep. lol. but all the songs are awesome. i wish someone didnt say anything about the seinfeld bass on goalie though. it's killing me. all i can see is like an animated gif of kramer sliding in and out of jerry's door.
goalkeeper is awesome though!

Peacemaker has to be favorite on the EP right now. I love in the chorus on every 4th measure when those background vocals come in that go "ahh ah-ah ahhhhh". There's some other background vocals with words in there too but I can't make out what they're saying

Pandas stuff has been objectively the worst stuff this cycle, sorry.
hehe objectively
jimmy mack is great and i love kinda bonkers mellowish vibe
I'm still hoping (and have been hoping since post-MPP times) that they do more spaced out slower sounding songs next cycle. Give me an album full of daffy duck, banshee beat, softest voice, #1, loch raven etc. with heart-wrenching melodies (filtered through some updated newer sound so they don't feel like its a retread) and I'd be so happy.

opinion update: peacemaker is actually pretty damn cool. still sick of hocketing, but the melody and vibe are really interesting. both that and kinda bonkers are much more chill than anything on painting with

yeah I'd love an entire album of that kinda stuff, it would be beautiful
also sorry to just drop buzzwords like that but I am really left scratching my head at comments about this cycle saying that Panda's tracks were the better ones. The hocketing is a gimmick. like, PB is a better songwriter than that and I'm not sure what the deal is with his weird fixation on it. I really hope it doesn't continue into the next cycle or his next solo record

I'm not sure I agree that the hocketing is a gimmick. I think part of it feels a little one note, but I also think that's due to the overall song structure of his recent AnCo tunes. Imagine Daily Routine with Hocketing. It'd still be a great tune.

Peacemaker has been on repeat for me. Really cool vibe, like a mystical humid summer night. Goalkeeper is good once it gets to the chorus, I just don't want to sit through the beginning of it haha.

the track is great. my only real complaint is that there could be an amazing panda harmony that comes in the third time avey sings "don't you feel me feel your heart shine" in the chorus (listen - you'll hear it; just imagine panda singing a higher harmony on it). would really give it that extra kick.
Same! I found myself singing the harmony by accident everytime!
