I thought that everyone concluded a long time ago that they definitely got married? I don't feeling like digging through everything but I remember being convinced by evidence at some point. They're keeping their personal life on the DL.
He was her then-boyfriend then because they are married now. The reporter worded it weird because he didn't want to announce their marriage via album review.

Who cares? The real newz is that there won't be another Slasher album which is total bs but w/e Dave do what you want, I guess.

I wonder if shows are off the cards too? Bummed I never caught them but maybe Dave will revert to solo performances once he has something new in the works, would be sweet if he did sporadic performances in LA to test out newer material.

I watched the slasher flix p4k set from last year on the bus today and it made my ride pretty decent

in the article, angel talks about herself not having a home and not knowing where she'll wind up but that she has a desire to find somewhere to settle. seems like a weird thing to say if you're married already and your husband lives somewhere. who knows, though.

i thought the old version of duplex trip was amazing. i'm surprised that they changed it so much. i'm sure this has already been expressed somewhere back in this thread though but part of me still hopes they rerelease the old version. that will never happen...

ETSH is such an incredible thing that has been so overlooked aaaa. every time I go back and listen I get excited about how unique it is. and it's also made of the kind of wood that memories seep into, I feel like I'm being transported back when I listen.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but is there any indication one way or the other if Slasher Flicks will do another album? (Maybe after the Painting With tour?)

Definitely possible. I would love to hear more vocal harmonies from those two with Angel penning more songs

Does anyone have a stab at why Avey referred to "That It Won't Grow" as the Pisces song?

He's said it at a bunch of shows. On my Webster recording he says it's the pisces part of the set before going into That It Won't Grow and Roses on the Window.
I'm definitely curious as well.

AnCo seems to be pretty inspired and involved with astrological meanings and interpretations from what I have heard/seen in their music and on instagram. And Avey in particular seems to reference these signs and draw upon the mythology around them in his lyrics.

Ha! Awesome! I wish there we had an annotated archive of the songs similar to how the grateful dead fans have created with The Annotated Dead http://artsites.ucsc.edu/GDead/agdl/
Either that or we need to start fleshing out the RapGenius pages with more of the songs.
http://genius.com/artists/Animal-collective
http://genius.com/artists/Avey-tares-slasher-flicks
http://genius.com/artists/Panda-bear
I think that the music AnCo creates, has the depth that could really be explored academically and provide enlightenment on potential interpretations/allusions to mythology/psychology/astrology. I love diving into a song after hearing it multiple times then reading the lyrics and realizing what they are actually singing about ("Guys Eyes" was a great example of me having a totally different interpretation of what they were singing about until I read the lyrics

I'm not sure if I know where you're coming from, what were a few examples you were thinking of?
What references and what signs?
I'm not sure if i've noticed a lot of astrological allusions in avey's lyrics

The only other astrological reference i can think of is the crab at the beginning of the Tropic of Cancer video. Nothing else comes to mind. Though I do know, through her Instagram, that Angel is into that stuff and I believe Dave is as well
NPA vol. 1 was released on the spring equinox of last year, but that is an astronomical term, not astrological

In general I hear about phases of the moon, sun stars. now that I'm looking back at lyrics they never really explicitly say anything and my statement was actually rooted in some of the more ambiguous lyrics that I personally drew an association with mythological and astrological events/scenarios. I apologize if I made it sound like Avey or AnCo explicitly has mentioned them. I'll try to explain some of those associations I have discovered and related to but nothing has been confirmed by the band explicitly to these associations from what I know.
This video is really weird but he really describes some of his feelings about the Down There record and his inspirations of creating his own mythology and how he interpreted his real life situations but abstracted it in the art. In Laughing Hieroglyphic I feel he referred to a Lion entering his dreams, He seems to try to convince himself that the lion in his dreams need to be accepted as himself. All of the other lyrics in this song seem to be confessions of his feelings and the lion lines a confirmation that this is the right thing to do(be honest and express himself). This song connected to me to Lion in a Coma where avey seems to describing a lion inside the wilderness of his head that needs to come out. Reminsing of old times and having the need to express himself to the ones close to him about his feelings and move forward. Maybe the lion was alseep inside him and that now it was time to awaken it in Down There? The lion could be anything but if I look at what a Leo traits in Astrology I can't help but associate those traits to help him stay strong while dealing with strong feelings/emotions which we seem to know was happening during this time in his personal life.
Cent. hz era gave me that feeling that he had been alluding to some myths. Crimson mentions "Eagle on my head tonight" which connects in my brain to shamans who would wear spirit animal costumes and headdresses. This Eagle connection goes into Applesauce at the end when he chants "One the eagle, Two the Nobel, Three the lizard, Four the soul" That chant just feels like a statement of phases or a list of important items to take care of. The repetition makes me feel like it is a mantra and he is trying to reenforce some symbol association. An Eagle on his head (embodying the spirit). Before I read the lyrics, I always assumed it was "Noble" and possibly an allusion to class status, or a person with that class status intellectually or creatively. The lizard could be the crocodile from Down There, he references in that video that the crocodile is ancient but there is knowledge that comes from that. The soul is pretty apparent to me to be that unquestionable but ultimately unexplainable thing that connects us from being just purely physical beings.
Amanita, to me, is a reflection on what happens when we don't have mythologies and connections to nature in our everyday life, it seems that some of those mystic stories are trying to be passed through art, but with the increase of technology, one must go back to the forest(nature) to retrieve these mythologies and bring them back to us in the form of their music. (that interpretation could be a huge stretch on my part)
Your Card seems to reference Tarot "You can learn to play the game, but you still got to live with your card." Meaning you can play the game of life and learn how to do it well, but you still gotta remember the type of person you are and to stay true to yourself. In Tarot/Astrology you have a sign/card that is dealt to you at birth or at a particular moment in your life.
His new song Fly is very tribal and soon after it was released he changed his name on instagram to AveyTareVoiceoftheFly, which just gave me a big impression he was accepting/creating a mask to perform and create within.
When Panda Bear was on the feels tour he created the character "Edgar" and it seemed to be a creative exercise similar to creating a mask/persona to perform a ritual or embody a particular spirit that isn't your original state of mind. Also Panda seems to recall his Edgar character and denounce it as an old way of becoming creative but that he had found a new way in Grim Reaper in the song Selfish Gene
"With a wig on
That ain't it
It might seem they making songs
Now they really making noise
Total shift in the unconscious
You'll trip up again
Go get up again"
Also Panda referenced seeing a healer witch person and getting the inspiration for mr. noah with the spirit animals that the witch described.
wrote:
"I was talking to this healer witch person who lives down the river a little bit," he says. "And she was like, 'You have three spirit animals. The first is a wolf. The second is a bear. And the third is an eagle.' So I set up the song according to that, and I tried to find bits of myself that I thought fit into that template."
http://pitchfork.com/features/cover-sto ... -wanderer/
I find it interesting that Panda being told one of his spirit animals is an eagle, which is something we heard in Cent. Hz era.
I'm sure I could find more examples that aren't on the top of my head, but there are a few. I'm excited to see if I can find more associates in Painting With, since they seem to be influenced by visual art movements/concepts.

Sure thing! I don't really know of anyone who uses the song interpretation section on Lyrical Collective, so if you're looking for actively engaged discussions on certain lyrics, I'd say make a thread in the lyrics/tabs subforum. Not that this isn't the right place for that discussion though. I really like your dissections of those Avey lyrics! He seems to use the most allusions in his songs, albeit obscure ones

tbh lyrical collective hasn't been active for discussion since probably 2008 or something. i'm not sure i would encourage people to use it for anything other than a reference source (but please contribute in that sense!)
genius is cool (even if the founders are assholes) but it shines best objectively, when explaining references, rather than one listener's interpretation i think. the lyrics forum is good for more open-ended stuff, that astro concept for example!

I don't think Avey would mind if you posted the answer to the question, unless he specifically asked you not to. He frequently responds to fans who DM him
