I'll be frank here, I fucking hate these songs. Like, I'm not even apathetic about it like I have been with most recent Avey endeavors. I honestly feel worse after listening to this. The incessant watery guitar and synth tones, the dull vocal melodies, the rigid drumming, I'm getting the same vibe off of these songs that I get from any '80s hair metal band. It's like Avey has just been writing the same damn song over and over since 2010.

I enjoy it a bit more than these new songs, but I'm still that not big on it. On Down There each song seemed slightly more distinct. I'm not writing this project off, though. I'll give the record an honest listen when it comes out, maybe a good studio mix is what these songs need.

Still, getting tired of those aqueous tones.

The stuff on TTG is some of the best stuff he has ever written to be honest. As bare and minimal as it is, it's still amazing. The Dark is one of my all time favorite songs by him. Also, I'm Sorry. That one more so because of an amazing experience I had listening to it while on a crazy acid trip though.

But those are Deaks tracks. Even though his vocals on those do sound very similar to Avey's. Did they pitch up his vocals on TTG or what?

I think people should be welcome to express disappointment or that they don't like stuff here, we shouldn't just pretend that everyone here loves everything they've ever done. Can lead to some good discussion as long as no-one gets too upset about it.

no pictures of ANGEL?!

They were great last night, first time hearing the Slasher Flicks stuff, it seems Avey has gone back to Spirit and HCTI, listened to those albums on the way home and I was blown away at how similar the sound is.

Also, they opened with a new song that wasn't blind babe. I don't know if they have played it before, but I know its not on those first string of shows.

any educated guesses about when the album could be coming out? I think someone was talking about a Halloween release which seems really in line with the whole band vibe. I wonder where they are in the recording process??

I'm really hoping they've completed most of the tracking by now since they were planning to do it last month. If they mixed it in the same period then Halloween might not be too unrealistic for a little band like Slasher Flicks with no major label to postpone their release indefinitely, but if they've still got to mix then I doubt we'll be seeing it even this year...

Didin't Avey record a lot of Down There in August 2010? And that record came out just shortly after.

something like that, and I think he and Josh mixed it basically around the same time though.

I'm not sure how this will go because AC have left a gap between tracking and mixing sometimes (with solo projects and band projects)

hope we find out soon
