I wasn't sure but searched a bit and it looks like he's using 2 of these https://www.critterandguitari.com/colle ... aleidoloop
Portable sampler of some kind. I assume he's just using the mic to pick up the speakers on there, although the website says they have output jacks so not sure why he'd have to. Maybe he's running the mic signal through some other effects or something

Totally agreeing that the interview is garbage. I'm just noticing the similarities in laziness between journalism around this album and some of the criticisms for this album as well.
i mean, lets not pretend this guy is a journalist. he's just a radio show host asking a few questions after a live in studio performance. it seemed fine for what it was.

Idk, he didn't seem to engage very well with the band which I'd think is important for radio

I thought this little setup was sweet
the way he was working the mic over those two made me think of dipping a brush in paint and swirling two colors together
painting with samples to create something new

a few minutes into the interview though, and it is pretty disappointing. the guy is asking all the same questions they have been asked a million times before (not touring first, Ramones record, etc.)
I get why so many of interviews that came out dec-feb were so similar, but now this guy has had months to see those old interviews and ask something new, yet he is excitedly asking the ramones question like it's something the band has never discussed before.
edit: and now the golden girls sample question. and he even says his producer would be dissapointed if he didnt ask, as if the answer to the question isn't in a thousand articles online already. did they not even bother researching for this?
I think in the Consequence of Sound interview Panda did a few months ago, he talked about how journalists tend to cling like mad to the "one-sheet" that gets delivered to the press. Noah made it sound kinda like an FAQ - that gets them through the first year or so after the release. I always thought kcrw was on par with npr as far as decent/deep interviewing goes, though...
Glad to see the return of PBs WTF face that comes after Geo says that comment about having "something weird behind him". Almost as good as the one following the festival show in Europe. (someone has it as their avatar around here someplace).
Love this set, though. Listened to the audio for my whole commute, and as I went into work realized there was video, too. That resulted in a little more desk-slacking than normal. Jimmy was lights out.

Man I feel bad for Jeremy haha. First they make him do like the most intense non-stop drumming of 2016 without a break, he gets all sweaty and fucked up and whatnot, then they don't let him talk to the man.
Free Jeremy!
But no seriously, those drums are CRAZY! That guy gets a workout!

Thanks so much for the Rip! This was an excellent performance! Loved seeing this set up pro-shot.
Did anyone notice Noah singing "Bitch" instead of "Bridge" in Floridada? He said it a couple times during the "Where's the bridge that gonna take me home" changing it to "Where's the bitch that gonna take me home"
Made me laugh and reminded me of how he changed his vocals in the "#1" performance on conan where he said "I wont let you..get to my heeead..."

Isn't KCRW public radio? I really really don't think he said bitch

It's certainly possible I am just misinterpreting his singing style but it really does sound like "bitch" at those specific parts of the performance. I also don't really regard bitch as a bad word. It could refer to a female dog leading you to your house, if you want to get technical.

Radio show hosts are journalists. Talking to AnCo is news, music news, but news all the same. Def a dead interview but talking about AnCo in 2016 has boiled down into some really unsophisticated bs.

Was weird that Avey sang the (more) main part of lying in the grass, i always thought it was Panda in the recording. perhaps they changed it up for performance

Yea it took many listens to realize that Avey sings the lead on LitG. It's easiest to spot in headphones.

- Joined: Sun Sep 20, 2015 12:40 am
yeah Avey is lead during the hocketing parts, but then Pandas is more of a lead during the parts where they sing in unison, like the "get mixed in this crippling fixture" section.

jimmy mack may be my favorite of this whole AC era so far

Ok holy hell, I just realised the backing vocal parts in the opening verse of Floridada is actually in the studio version... Mind explode

Have you been listening to the album through tin cans and string?

I disagreed thoroughly with Pitchfork's Painting With review. I think it's a stellar album. But every time I hear Jimmy Mack I'm reminded of that part where the reviewer said that Painting With seems like a bunch of 40 year old dads got together and made an album. I don't like that song at all. It reminds me of a cover that, like, Counting Crows would do, or Pearl Jam or something. I'm not against accessibility. I love a good pop song. But something about this one just rubs me the wrong way. Oh well.
