I think the boys are recording the shows themselves

that would make sense if they told him he couldn't record, I guess

saw some photos with mics and things labeled like they would be for a live joint... think it was the boston show I saw those pics from. Plus recently in interviews they've said they'd like to make every live show available in soundboard quality.

Josh told me a couple years back that the band had recorded almost all of their shows since before the CHz tour at least. Exciting to think what they might have in the vaults.

That's pretty much right, but they played Lying in the Grass before The Burglars. I put the setlist on setlist.fm:

Alvin Row is such a banger. I stayed away from the vids so I just learned tonight that loch raven is a happy club song now. Still fun.

wow so happy!!! loch raven was the highlight for me sooooo goood
thought (avey) vocals seemed kind of off at times
hardcore froze after outside but i waited and met them for the first time!! seriously all sooooo sweet. talked to avey and one thing he said was that they probably wont play any songs that they havent already on this leg of the tour (because pw is still so new to them live) but that they have shows yet to be announced all the way to november!!

^sweeeet, ya i figured there was gonna be at least 1 more round. that'll probably be when they go to slightly larger venues and bring in a few more oldies. realizing this is a pattern now since mpp tour...
and ya this show was pretty amazing. got to see 3 pw songs that they didnt play in philly so now ive heard all but StW live ...the songs were OD, Spilling Guts and Recycling which might as well be my top 3 from the album, and they were all beautiful
golden gal sounds even sweeter and tighter than it did the first night and it worked great as an opener... also got to hear Hounds of Bairro again and man that song jams so freakin hard...
..this daily routine was fucking next level...i cant even explain how euphoric the back half of that song is live wow.

Thankfully sounds like this was just a misunderstanding with the venue staff, he's been sorted to record tonight's show

really enjoyable show...i'll echo the comment about golden gal as an opener...super hype right outta the gate...i thought all of the PW songs were solid, with Vertical, Burglars, On Delay & Recycling being personal stand-outs...i was down on LITG when i got PW, but when they take it our for a walk in a live setting - totally different beast and it finally clicked for me on that one...
...but the DR > Bees combo...uhhhhhhhhh...it left me soooooooo W-E-A-K...just a total puddle of joy lost in a crowd of enchantment...
...and then there's Alvin...
fwiw...i was behind the soundboard for the entire show and happened to notice a taper set-up in front of the soundboard, on the left side...so fingers crossed on that prospect...
back for night 2 tonight...woot!

I did. It's fine...nothing great. We couldn't record from the balcony so we were stuck in the crowd and it was so uncomfortably tight on the floor so the recorder was basically pressed up against some guy's ass the entire time

Mike were you at the bar upstairs? Could you actually see the stage? We were so bummed when we found out we couldn't stand against the rail because those areas were only for VIP

it's kinda disappointing the only non PW era songs they're playing are Loch/Bees/Alvin/Daily and a cover. Hope that changes soon....
On the latter CHz tours they were playing about half CHz and half older stuff. I think maybe somewhere in that tour they realized the average person just wanted to come to a show and hear Purple Bottle and My Girls and Brother Sport and Peacebone instead of CHz stuff.
Maybe its cause this album is brand new and these are the first time they're playing them live so they're bulking up the setlist w/ PW tracks. I suppose this is similar to early CHz tours where'd they'd really only Did You See The Words, Summertime Clothes and We Tigers.

Aside from the three bolded ones being pretty crazy choices, they usually only play 4-6 non album/era tracks on tours. And as you said, it's super early on. If they're going to tour again in the fall I'm sure they'll mix it up.

ya i really love those 4 songs as the old ones... ends up going well with the pw tracks in a surprising way
im also pretty sick of my girls and bro sport and im sure they are too, along with the other big singles they played last tour, even tho those sets were really sick. but ya im guessing after this first leg of the tour a couple more really big oldies will get mixed in... maybe a new grass and.... taste/rabbit/leaf house? idk, going off the ones they've played so far it could be freakin daffy duck or bat you'll fly or something..

also d.a.d., idk if this would help, but they did end up letting people onto the vip balconies like a couple songs in. it was so damn crowded that ppl were spilling out into the entrance hall. there was room when i got up there, but who knows how they'll handle that tonight... i think they sold more tickets than the have room

Unfortunately I had to tell these two girls to stfu (no regrets) during daily routine. The second half of DR is NOT the time to be chatting and ruining it for other people.

idk but 90% of the audiences ive been part of in nyc have just been generally uncomfortable (coming from dc/bmore shows)

I'm curious about the crowd in NYC...or even of AnCo shows in general, if you can speak to this:
I started off about 3-4 "rows" of people back from Noah and Geo when they played in Boston on Monday night and ended up having to move way out to the left side because a mosh pit broke out. Dude. Moshing? Really? This didn't happen at the NH show, but I kind attributed it to the fact that it was New Hampshire and, well... cows live there. Not mosh pits.
This was only my second Animal Collective show; I have seen PB a few times, though - and the crowd was pretty chill overall. Tightly packed, but chill. When I hear you talk about the packed in factor it made me wonder about the slamming and pushing. Is that usually what the floor is like at the shows?
Just curious. It surprised me.

Oh don't. It's not that good haha. Uploading now.
Looking forward to not recording tonight (but I will have it with me just in case)...it was miserable having to worry about it last night

I'm curious about this as well. Both Boston shows I've been to (CHz and now PW) the crowd was so rough. I sort of expected it on Monday so I held tight to my space up front, but in '13 I was so taken aback and sick of being pushed that I had to leave the crowd and stick to the sides which was a bummer.

i mean i am definitely more into an active crowd rather than a chill crowd tbh, i definitely dont mind moshing as long as it is moderately respectful and coming from some real energy. last night people were moshing some during ratking but not really during ac although fdada got pretty hype.
anyway its kind of a bummer to me if people around you arent dancing but the thing that really bothers me is when people are standing there looking around tensely the whole time OR talking that is what really gets me and what always seems to happen at nyc shows (ive only lived here since this fall though idk)

I'm generalizing here, but the crowd at Boston shows can be pretty irritating. I went to the AC show in '09 at the House of Blues, and it was pretty rowdy then as well. I'd recommend if you don't like moving or being bumped around to stick to the balcony or the far left/right sides of the stage when you see AC in Boston.
But, I don't know, I thought the movement (wouldn't really call it moshing) that broke out during Floridada was pretty fun and fit the mood. Not sure if it happens elsewhere, but this is the second Boston AC show I've been to where fans felt the need to shout, "PURPLE BOTTLE!!!!" between every song. That's more annoying to me than pushing and shoving--I go in expecting that.

yeah I'm all for dancing, I was moving basically the whole time. But when I can hear you clearly during the amazing slowed down parts of bees and daily routine we have a problamo. Not being able to see from people enjoying themselves to the music is one thing, but when people just aren't listening and ruining it for everyone else that's another thing to me

I apologize for it sucking but I did what I could with the little I had. Not being able to stay in the balcony totally sucked. Hopefully that will change for tonight because of how insane everything was.
