SOMEONE DM AVEY ABOUT LYRICS

I'd do it but if I weren't socially inept

Also one time this drunk guy went on my phone and sent Avey a heart emoji. You have no idea how heart-broken I was when I first saw the "Seen."

yeah I'm really digging the lack of effects on vox, it sort of feels like the vocal trade offs is a way of getting around the old "everyone in new york sings thru delay" thing of the past by doing it manually.

this album is now tied with Prants - Hot Shaker Meet Lead Donut and Not Waving - Animals for my most listened albums of the year and I'm probably going to listen again before the day is out.

I haven't trusted Pitchfork's opinion on music since they gave The Mars Volta's Frances The Mute a 2.0 and Amputechture a 3.5 lol. Like others have said, their recent reviews hardly even touch on the actual music of the album they are reviewing.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to Anthony Joe Biden's Painting With review since his tastes seem to be pretty similar to mine. He tweeted earlier today that he's loving "Golden Gals" so I see him giving this album a pretty favorable review (probably at the very least a light to decent 8). I won't be listening to the album until Friday when it comes out but I'm loving the singles and can't wait to digest the whole thing!

i havent trusted pitchfork since them trashing on tunng and unfairly comparing them to the books.. i rarely have agreed with their written opinions on releases ,even when i have thought their scores given to be correct.

It's strange to hear that people find it "samey" considering the distinct aesthetic of the album.

The shape and structure of the music is so idiosyncratic to Animal Collective...Their synaesthetic, visual approach is as refined and articulated as it's ever been. That is the thing that drew me to them in the first place, and that is also where the emphasis seems to be on this record. Modern, high fidelity, sonic engineering at it's finest. Imagine AC as Bob Ross, and each of the songs on the album are every painting Bob did in season 3. Each painting is it's own unique world, but each painting was done by Bob using nearly all the same colors...

It's suppose to sound "samey" in a way...Putting the same tools to use to create vastly different environments.

When it comes to the sound of the music, stylistically, I completely understand how people might not vibe with it. I personally don't often listen to electronic music of this aggressive, in-your-face nature. It's bizarre, it's confounding, it's a juxtaposition of itself. If this were music created by pretty much anyone else, I probably wouldn't listen to it. But because I've always found their sonic manipulation and ability to build really peculiar little worlds to be my personal favorite quality of theirs, this falls pretty well into that category. I wholeheartedly agree that the album is not emotionally trying or reaching some profound depth...It's just an excellent display of something that you'll find pretty much only from AC.

Point is, we're all listening to it for different reasons. Due to the unsuspecting, ever-morphing nature of their work, this kind of response is expected, always should be.

I completely and totally agree with 90 percent of what was said here. The first times I heard Painting With what went through my mind were cubist surrealist painting from Escher and Picasso. Just these disjointed pieced together works of separate ideas and materials, but overall making a great piece of art. I don't view the hocketing as a negatively overused portion of this album, I viewed it as an instrument in and of itself. It added a lot of cool rhythmic elements.

listened to the album for the first time yesterday (flac baby). have heard it 4-5 times since. (didn't listen to the singles/bathroom flacs/amazon samples)

like w every ac record, the more i listen to it, the clearer it becomes. can't believe i haven't heard any Cosplay - Floridada comparisons. the middle section of Bagels in Kiev reminds of the chorus on Native Belle (do ya do ya do ya love me love me love me love me), too.

also this is not ac's pet sounds. that was mpp (or person pitch). this is their Love You (aka the most fun/ridiculous beach boys album).

Hey guys I wann talk about specific visuals/scenes you guys are getting from these songs? The warm synth surges in the burglers gives me the feeling of a comic book, like the hulk busting out of a mad scientist laboratory about to get his rightful justice. Those synths are really orange to me too whereas most of the album is rich blue and greens 4 me (same as merriweather). Specially the keyboards on verticals those are really rich green. Bah I could mention a thousand things I see this is truly evocative music.

my favorite moment on this album is a really small thing -- in "vertical," when avey and panda exchange weirdly dramatic "for me/for me/for me" etc in the middle. i don't know why outside of the fact that it sounds awesome.

also, i am new here, hi, and i love this album so much.

it all feels like one big puddle to me still. I've gone through maybe 4 or 5 times. it's a pretty exhaustive listen. I do wish there was a breather in the middle. it's pedal to the medal for 40 minutes! lots of groove though which is what I was hoping for the most.

it's amazing that this hasn't crossed my mind before - but i really love that the verses of floridada are so jam packed with words and lines and imagery, plus the vocal tradeoffs, there's just so much happening in such a small space it's hard to even keep up, and then the chorus is one word. very nice.

edit: probably been said by someone else a long time ago but

we did indeed, it was fun. He said "I'm proud of the singing and the vocals. We realize it might be off putting for some people but hey... thats how it goes"

While I do think the jumpy vocals are a bit overused on PW, I respect the fact that the guys themselves are happy with it. I'm happy for them if they're happy with it

so i'm guessing this means asking them for the lyrics? perhaps boom can be our lyrics liaison again.

and re demonclusters agreed i'm really glad to hear that they're proud of this record and you can definitely tell that they enjoyed making it.
can anyone confirm that the last line in "on delay" is 'so turned on by the delay'? i wonder what it means... :mmhmm:
possible that this song is some kind of commentary on how reverb and delay are overused in music currently?

The Burglars has a high-pitched sound that varies in pitch over the first 24 seconds and gets louder whenever Avey says "burglars;" that sound for some reason makes the song feel metropolitan to me. It's shrill and atonal like the brakes of a bus or a train.

love how Burglars --> NS is kind of the rock-out punk section of the album. 2 louder songs that kind of approximate having rocking out electronic guitars but are actually synth driven. they both have this sweet texture that shows up a few places here... and then bagels -->OD are like the blissed out techno tracks.

kinda think litg, NS, bagels and OD might be some of the ones they jam on on and stretch out live. seem like they could all be long spacey techno songs live. stw too prbly
