hey everyone.
longtime fan (since 2006), ex-poster, and current passive lurker (the build up to PBVSGR on this board was epic). i've been trying hard to find Painting With on my crappy, outdated computer far away from home on a frustrating business trip to no avail. i would really appreciate a quality PM as i plan my long drive home early in the morning. It would certainly boost my moral after such a long weekend. I also plan on buying the album friday, as i do with all their music, and already have with the 3 current singles. just so you know it's going to grateful hands.
love the band. love the forum. and would love join the fun. appreciate the time, and the help from those good souls willing to help me out.

The Burglars is definitely definitely one of the best songs on the album, mostly because of that goddamn beautiful ending.
I'm liking the album a lot so far. Some songs (hocus pocus, spilling guts, LITG) don't really do much for me at the moment but I think the album as a whole is a really fun and energetic experience...which i think they were going for.

the part where avey just repeats 'the burglars are the future. the future. the future' over and over again?
Poor outlaws. They're obsolete already.

I love how hard this album slams. it's so crisp and intense! really refreshing after pbvsgr which was kinda muddled at parts and fell a little short when I was expecting climactic moments

i went to art school for a few years...
we had color wheel projects to learn about 'seeing colors' and expanding our ability to see variations
we also did saturation projects, light/dark projects, you name it... just painting every color imaginable
it became one of those things where we'd see a "white" or a "black" and we'd say, "oh that's a green-y white" (white with a TINY bit of green in it) or a red-white, ... whatever...
this album reminds me of looking at all those "whites"

Does any song on the album only have one singer? I'm no good at this stuff and I can't tell.

I FEEL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MADE BY NOBODY ELSE, BUT IT ALSO REMINDS ME OF THINGS I LISTENED TO WHEN I WAS REALLY LITTLE. I THINK THE SONGS ARE JUST SO HAPPY I FEEL YOUNGER.

I'll never like burglars or floridada as much as the rest because of the annoying way some words are pronounced, I know I just won't get over it. bur ga lers,, flor flor flor
the rest of the tracks are queen

i really love that this album bangs harder with each listen even when i don't expect it to anymore. i've listened to the bad-quality freebird in my car on two separate two-hour trips in the snow (i've been on the road in days since the lq freebird) and i've listened to the hq and FLAC freebirds thru big headphones and thru my tv speakers via hdmi. i've heard the album while sober and while good n stoned and also while kinda drunk, and while i was listening to the flacs through big headphones i had time and the proper state of mind to just lay and pay full attention to the music and everything that's going on in this album, and basically what i'm trying to say is that i've been exposed to this album in a lot of different ways since it freebirded and it really really jams, and i think everyone here can find the groove if u try. or maybe ur not supposed to try. either way its fucking great
it's hard to believe there could be live bootlegs for this era starting in around a week. can't even begin to try to decide if i should listen to those or stay blind until i see them in may.

it's all so good. took some serious sifting but that flac is so much more intense. i can't get over the beautiful breakdowns in bagels and ándale. it's like they knew spring was gonna happen early a year before winter started

For Vertical in particular, try focusing on Panda's "Vert-i-cuuuuul" before the chorus repeats itself.
Makes that part sound cooler (and less cheesy)

Burglars is the one I can't get enough of right now. Diggin it all but that one just hits such a happy transcendence for me.
Recycling is a perfect closer, and with all the hocketing in the album, it seems like the most evolved of the technique. I like the repetition of that technique throughout the album because it changes and ends with the best.

it's also crazy to me how much nostalgia some of these tracks have attached to them already.... lol, listening to the cdq version of the burglars for the first time brought me right back to the first time i heard the first recording of burglars from the baltimore airport bathroom posted by strangeclams (i think). i was in the car with my family on a 9-hour trip home from a thanksgiving trip and i was dialed in on this thread on my phone probably the whole time with headphones in and the feeling was so magical.. crazy feelings of nostalgia and excitement hearing that song now due to the extreme excitement i felt when i was listening to the bathroom recordings. i remember hating vertical\ based on the bathroom recording but then falling in love with the amazon sample of it. i love this album.

With as far as we've come in the past few days, I think it's important to remember how fucking awesome FloriDada is. What an amazing opener.

there's no song i dislike, floridada and lying are a little overplayed for me but they should settle nicely. Golden Gal has been my obsession all day though.

Pitchfork 9.3 man get that 9.2 outta here. They've been capping at 9.3 lately for great records.

ooooo that's subtle, getting on that black messiah level (9.4). Maybe a 9.7? Higher than that MPP (9.6)?

man p4k really hasn't gone 9.5+ since Yeezus? Am I missing one?

9.3 was the highest they went in 2015, Black Messiah got a 9.4 in 2014 and I don't think they've gone above 9.5 since Yeezus. Bon Iver got a 9.5 in 2011. High 9's are rare.
edit - good kid maad city got a 9.5 in 2012
excluding reissues of course

but honestly I read pitchfork a lot because I personally like them and agree with a lot of what they say, and based off of this album and what they like to see in music I feel that this record is definitely going to get It Is OK. I feel like it would fall in the high 8 range, I don't see it getting over a 9. If I had to guess I would say I think it will get an 8.7 which is a great score.
Personally this records is a 10++++++++ for me I love it, but that's just what I predict pitchfork will give them based on what i know about them and what they like to see in records.
