Hocus Pocus is like peeking into the looking glass of a time machine. Mentions of dinosaurs, futuristic drones, tribal rituals, all amalgamated into one hazy walking-pace track I LOVE IT

The year is 3000. Dinosaurs never went extinct and are living in harmony with humans

duh! :smoking:

rhythmically this does not really feel very AC, like the way the melodies and stuff work

Recycling is so zany; it's like I'm ride It's A Small World at Disney, but all of the animatronic figures are fucked up and the lighting is spazzing out.

Top 3: Hocus Pocus, On Delay, The Burglars

Going back and listening to the slower stuff on Feels...Love PW, but wish it also had some slow jams. Hopefully the live versions will change that.

i find it funny that they were talking about how people say like "thats so AC" and how Painting With is kinda like a caricature or something of their band. to me this is probably the least immediately AC sounding record

I'm really loving Summing the Wretch, the groove on that is too infectious

Golden Gal
Bagels In Kiev
Vertical

Are the three that seem like standouts / ovs choices for singles to me. Good songs. Favorite might be Hocus Pocus.. so fun. Love Recycling and Summing too.

Spilling Guts is short but I love the sound of it, needs more love!

Not big on vertical, like the song tho but not as into it as the other. I need to investigate this song

By the way Litg is really good in the context of the album (I liked it but had some trouble listening on it's own)

Vertical is quite honestly the only track I'm not terribly fond of. I love the intro and outro but the whole "parking lot is way too hot" section is much too cheese-ball for me.

I still enjoy it, don't get me wrong...But I am a little bewildered that it looks to be one of the more popular tunes.

I feel the exact same way about Golden Gal. The only track that I'm not really feeling, and it seems kind of cheesy to me.

The very end of Golden Gal — I imagine AC intentionally cosplaying Beach Boys for the first time, like trolling — "Let's do something that is obviously Beach Boys, if they write about them in every 2nd review". It reminds me of Heroes and Villains.

yep. I said it was one of the early standouts, but now it's my least favorite together with LITG.

STW = the best

To me STW and LITG are least favourite so far, like 7-8 out of 10. But I like them more in the context.

The main standout's here to me are Burglars and On Delay.

Not a bad song on this album, even songs I thought were gonna be boring after hearing the amazon samples (Hocus Pocus, Spilling Guts) were amazing. I really hope it's not just the hype fueling my love for this album temporarily, but I don't remember feeling this good about ChZ after hearing it about 5 times. Don't think it will get alot of attention at all, but who gives a shit.

Burglars and On Delay are both incredible, and have potential to be some of my fav all time AnCo songs.

God, On Delay is amazing. Really draws on Noah and Dave's different vocal strengths that they bring to a song.

prbly my favorite too. Vertical, Bagels and Golden are amazing too but its kind of all abt Burglars/On delay for me at this point, and then bagels. half way thru On delay a big fat synth and beautiful piano comes in, prbly highlight of album for me

hoenstly feel like i ant even really compare panda and aveys songs on this. feel like avey's the heart and panda the head...

spilling guts reminds me out sunsets in the outback. and love natural selections 'sneaky wa-aa-aays'

ok so i know this is a ridiculous hypothetical but i kind of wish Panda had written Come to Your Senses during the Painting With sessions. CTYS was my favorite track from the live Grim Reaper shows but I thought it fell pretty flat on the actual album. Had it been written for Painting With and replaced Spilling Guts (i like the track a lot tbh but with how short it is it could have been replaced) it could have been the slower more brooding track people want, but the beat still fits the theme of PW. I could see Avey singing the first Are You Maaaad part and Panda the second, alternating until the verse comes in and then harmonizing throughout the verse and chorus with the beat coming in on the second round of are you mads. It would have added an ambient element for the first half, great melodies, and then that beat hits, then end with a crazy outro leading into Summing the Wretch.

That said, I love PW and nothing needs to be changed.

Take the album for what it is/what they were going for when they recorded it and go from there. I hope you end up finding joy from it. It's pretty tight

Well Im sleepily listening to it on laptop speakers. I think I need to drink some caffeine and go on a drive and just lose myself in it without trying to make it into feels-vibe or anything super emotional. It just seems more fun and hyper
