AS YOU KNOW....
ONE OF SPACEMEN 3s MAIN PROPONENTS IN RECENT YEARS HAVE BEEN ANIMAL COLLECTIVE . AND FOR THAT I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL .
BUT , I THOUGHT SOME OF YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN THE CURRENT SITUATION REGARDING SPACEMEN 3 AND THEIR FORMER MANAGER GERALD PALMER & SOME OF THE LABELS WHO ARE ALSO CURRENTLY NOT PAYING OR UNDERPAYING SIGNIFICANTLY THE MEMBERS OF SPACEMEN 3 .
HIS MOST RECENT LAND GRAB IS THE TAKING OF COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL & BOOTLEGGING IT FROM A VINYL RIP ( WITH CRACKLES ! ) FOR AN UNAUTHORISED CD RELEASE .
HERES THE LINK TO THE INFO . SHARING THIS INFO IS IMPORTANT

Absurd!!! We love you Sonic, thanks for bringing this to our attention! Will NOT be supporting Space Age's releases, and will share this info.

! you're the best !
actually , its not just Space Age , but I'm sparing the other major culprits being shamed whilst they are given a last chance to do the right thing . otherwise the clear FACTS will need to be shared .
its juicey.......
4800 people have viewed this on one site in 48 hours and it has been further shared and viewed and commented on on myriad other sites and media .
i'm on the verge of starting a website specifically to call out the cheating that goes on in the record industry by some managers & labels . there's a LOT of grist for that .......
the record industry is populated by petty crooks & thieves
- and in too many cases they are systematically cheating musicians.
you can make a differance
YOU ARE HELPING ME BY MAKING THIS A POINT OF PUBLIC DISGUST

That is BULLSHIT. Sent to indieheads reddit..
I have Live at New Morning and the second side (30 minutes or so) is one of the best jams I have ever heard. The record is awesome, got it in a white elephant last year and it's one of the best records I have!

Oh man! Thanks for bringing this to our attention! So sorry that you have to deal with something so stressful.
Artists seem to never get a break. It's such a shame that its the people who work so hard to create that end up getting used and abused the most.

I wonder if there was a way to regain the rights to your music or re-release official Sonic Boom releases with a kickstarter or something of the like? Or am I totally talking out of my ass here?

We are considering crowd funding to proceed further to assert our legitimate rights
If necessary it may become part of the larger publicity in this situation .
Many people are pledging support should we need it .
The unauthorised exploitation in this thread in this most recent development is only the tip of the ice-berg
I do not do this easily , but this is after many many months and years of trying
Enough is enough
Spacemen 3 are being ripped off

man the music industry is so fucked - I work in publishing and it's always the shady fucked up people that get to the top and have all the power - my hope is to one day create more resources and revenue for underground artists to make sure quality music has a chance to grow - but each day I am more and more discouraged and afraid that unless you are a d-bag you can't get to a point of power to make a significant impact

Is there a good link to share or hashtag to use on social media to keep our messages together? I would tweet and retweet others. Maybe we can get some media coverage to further the message.

You always hear these stories about artists being railed by the industry, but it really drives it home to know it's happening to sweet, sweet Pete. I've been a big fan of both him and Jason for more than a decade, so I'll be sure to care and share on this one...I hope this has a happy ending.

1. Let's all email Pitchfork/Stereogum/etc to get this story some coverage. They all lurk on here anyways to steal AC/PB info from Pete so I think it's the least they can do.
2. You know Pete is most certainly not fucking around when he isn't writing in his typical fun, cryptic ways. It actually makes me sad.
3. Spacemen 3 is one of my favorite bands, so this is not cool.

You can do it
The system with publishing in U SofA with the Harry Fox agency etc & the unnecessary hoops unpublished US bands have to jump thru to collect mechanicals & dues is a disgrace .
I hear some bands just register with PRS in the UK & suck up the extra percentage drain ..
As you know , money is siphoned off at MANY stages .......legitimately and otherwise.....
Fair short term contracts for fair percentages .
Anything 'in perpetuity' should be illegal
- as I believe it is already in more progressive benign legal systems such as Switzerland ....
It is NOT only douches who succeed , but there's enough to make the waters unsafe .
Dont ever give up on your dreams . They cant take that away from you .

Thank you! This really helped. And yes, this system of milking the artist dry that the music industry has established itself on needs to go and I do see a better system being put into place in the future! I am never goin to give up I think - but I really hope that we can all help to create a new music industry - the foundations of the old are cracking - and we need to rebuild. just got to push through this weird limbo period of the old still in control. Excited to see what the future holds!

Thanks for the support . If its a news item its a news item and thats self fulfilling .
But the offer is very much appreciated ....
If you want to tweet / share / discuss this , heres the link to include with the first details on the way the band is being denied their fair dues .
http://spiritualized.band/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12878
The situation has been going ballistic since PBvsGR times .
As you see , I'm not permanently absorbed by this and I am pretty good about not letting it ruin my life , ....but everything is connected and the info that has come to light ...... I feel it is my duty to the other members and myself to get our fair dues reinstated from the continued exploitation of the band by Space Age recordings / Gerald Palmer & other labels that are denying us our fair & contractual dues.

Sorry to hear about this PK, this really sucks. Will share, also sent an email to Pitchfork. Not sure if it'll do anything but hopefully if enough people get the word out then maybe someone can figure out a way to make PK & co. whole. It's the least we could do in return for all the cool shit that Pete has done for us <3

Wow. That's super shitty Pete. Frustrating to hear about this. I'd definitely be willing to pitch in on a Kickstarter or some other crowdfunding to help regain your rights to the music with rerelease, etc. Hope the general music public learns about this

ugh, gross. greed sure is a weird thing. at any rate, I've always loved Spacemen 3, but over the past month I've gotten super into them and this post reminded me that you post here, Pete, so I figure I might as well take the opportunity to tell you. especially Perfect Prescription. driving around immersed in sheets of synth, beautiful flowing strings, and metallic guitar crashes has been good for my thought process this month I think. perfect music. thanks for making it, man

Thanks. Does anyone else know of any other music news outlet who is known for uncovering stories like this?
Also, really bummed to hear that someone out there is deliberately going against Specemen 3's wishes, putting out unauthorized albums, and profiting from it. Ideally, I wish he would come to his senses, stop and make it right with SB and everyone else effected, but I doubt that will happen and I feel like a legal intervention may be necessary. Hopefully word gets around to all the new and old Specemen fans and that people stop buying from Space Age
