The Summertime Clothes video is also really fucking fantastic, what with the siamese twin ice sculpture and the blanket covered dancers and the bloody membrane hamster balls with dog penises for legs.

okay, so someone here compared paintng with with some other band that also made a "pop album" that was more accessible compared to their other stuff? what band and what album was it?

EDIT: that could be anything... but someone mentioned it in this thread somewhere.

Might've been me. I said the descriptions of the album in the press releases & interviews reminded me of The Residents' Duck Stab/Buster & Glen in how they're using short songs and pop structures to funnel their weirdness

yeah, that's right! this comment makes it sound sooo good:

What makes this album so wonderful, even compared to other Residents albums, is that the impression one gets is of a band - or even better, just one man in his basement - trying to make something like a conventional pop album and failing due to (1) having access only to fairly primitive synthesizers, (2) not knowing much traditional music theory, and (3) being a little mentally unhinged.

gonna listen to it when I get back from work.

Haha, I guess you just got halfway and assumed it would remain consistent? I thought that too but they mix it up a little second half.

I really love how floridada has almost the exact same drumming as grass has, and whenever avey says "get me some grass" in floridada I can't help but smile and think it's a little bit of an intentional joke/callback to grass or an acknowledgement of the elements from that song that were used in floridada. I can imagine avey in the studio saying to panda, "get me some grass" and panda begins playing he drums that were used in Floridada lol.

Also, spilling guts sounds like the best elements of boys latin and father time smushed together

Also just noticed, Apple Music has an interview up with Noah and Brian on their Beats 1 thing, just search Animal Collective.

i thought it was pbear too but now i think they are singing simultaneously on that one. same goes for a lot of the tracks that i thought were just panda bear, the 2nd/lower part of a lot of the tracks where panda is using the 'callback effect' (for lack of better words) seems to actually be avey. i think bagels in kiev is both them singing simultaneously as well

Well then I'm psyched to hear that. They sound like one person together. But the song itself still sounds soooo Panda Bear to me.

Yeah, my gut tells me that Panda wrote Golden Gal with Avey on vocals. The instrumentation and style (based on the sample) sound straight off of Grim Reaper, but it's definitely Avey singing (to my ears.) Also, hi everyone! I've been lurking for a while, but have finally made an account. So psyched for this record!

Not sure if this is known/has been posted but Geo said that there is gonna be the album + 2 bonus tracks on a 7" (Gnip Gnop/Hounds of Bairro) + 2 extra tracks that don't have release plans yet.

here's that version from the dj set (the drums and some instrumentals are from an Isolee track). Avey could've just recorded this by himself or something so we don't really have confirmation that a studio, full-band version exists

I'd say the chances are pretty low that From a Beach is one of the 2 unknown tracks though just because in another interview they said that all 16 tracks were written specifically for this album

totally agree,

http://www.factmag.com/2015/12/09/anima ... ting-with/

"Noah, in an interview back in 2007 you explained that whoever writes the words usually sings the main melody. Considering both of your voices are so blended and symbiotic on this album, did that come from a change in writing?

Lennox: Well, it was actually quite a bit different this time. It kinda marks the first time that Dave and I both wrote vocal parts for the other person to sing. So for Dave’s songs he wrote all the vocal stuff and for my songs I wrote all the vocal stuff, so it was kind of a change of pace this time around.

What was that experience like?

Lennox: I can’t speak for Dave, but it was tricky. It had to be super specific how the two voices worked together so it was sometimes a little tricky to get the right rhythm or combination to make them dance in a way that suited the song. It wasn’t always easy. Actually, once we’d written the parts it was a lot easier to nail the takes then I thought it was going to be, but the writing took a bit of doing here and there.

Portner: I think it was about finding the rhythm of the vocal part first and deciding on how the melodic element was going to flow through the rhythm in a way that the two vocals went to make that one vocal part. So it was like separating the rhythm into two parts that would make the melodic element of the vocal line.

Lennox: And choosing the right words that had a really specific rhythm to them, in terms of where the consonants hit and what not, that was real tricky as well."

I have not heard the 30 sec samples but form FloriDaDa it seems you are right.

That's really quite interesting.

Was there a previous time where somebody did lead vocals on a song that they did not write? "Winter's Love" and "Graze" come to mind but those seem more like examples of guest verses.
