I'm not saying people here are, but i think there is that sort of mindset out there, sj is really their first pop endevour and feels is probably too out there and freak folky for people who haven't been exposed to that sort of music yet.

Lol Monkey Been to Burn Town is a completionist's release. I do own it though. It's pretty disappointing that there weren't four extra CHz b-sides that could've been that EP
Voted SJ because as someone said earlier, is the only one I can't really fault. Most consistent tracklisting in their discog

Had to choose Spirit. It was really an important album for me. I remember listening to it while taking walks at night and just feeling so connected to it (I live on a suburban area so I felt as if I understood what Avey was talking about). Lines like "It's hard to just kiss our childhood games goodbye" really resonated with me as I was 17 at the time. Another important aspect is just how homemade the album feels which inspired me to start my own musical career. One of my favourite albums overall and my favourite Animal Collective record!

ya def the most uninspired/vanilla.
and ya monkey burntown is just like the peacebone or summertime remix releases... i mean they coulda had an ep if the didnt fuk with a double non-album single and put those 2 with crimson instead... guess there just wasnt a fourth song to make it an ep... kinda dig non-album singles a lot tho (gnip gnop!!!!)

Calling Feels uninspired is one of the most insane things I've ever heard.

Except the Peacebone remixes were actually good and the Peacebone EP has "Safer" which is one of their best songs ever
Traxman and Teengirl Fantasy remixes are really good what are you talking about

Definitely agree with people saying strawberry jam is their most consistent release, but I still prefer feels over it. It has a more dynamic range in terms of song lengths and mood change between songs. Really great sonic narrative too
Also TTG is very underrated. I love how dark and 'out there' it gets. Their most cerebral release

ya ttg is amazing. love every little part of it rlly... that and oddsac and stuff like psycho actives kinda seem like part of an alternate timeline in which they nvr started making more regular pop music...ttg totally coulda been an main studio LP y'know? the poster of the max msp branch for ttg is one of my favorite posters.... itd could be/is an album thats different every time u play it... so sweet.

I think Fall Be Kind is AC's best release (all the songs are 10/10) but I can tell that Painting With will be my #1 when all is said and done. Hype!!

Those melty vocals in the chorus punctuated by that percussion plus Avey's lyrics...
It perfectly captures that nice dreamy haze I feel during long periods of travel.
FBK just sounds like a nice dream from top to bottom without getting too slow or uninteresting.

i remember studio on the highway blowing my mind on first listen with the percussion during the chorus... wasnt in the bbc version so it rlly blew my mind at the time.... fbk rlly does feel like its own thing, maybe even moreso than wc/people/ph... felt like such an amazing victory lap after mpp when it came out, and almost seemed better..

FBK is pretty great. It's actually the only AC related release, since I started getting into them, where listening to it on vinyl was my first exposure to all the studio version of the songs (correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember this one freebirding), so it holds a special place in my heart because of that.
And while I do like certain musical elements of On a Highway a lot (the passing car sounds, Noah's vocals, the percussion, and the voice distortion at the end), I find the lyrics to be some of Dave's least interesting. Also, it's placement between a slow song like bleed and the slowish beginning of I Think I Can makes that portion of the EP drag a little too much for me. I think if they left off On a Highway, I'd maybe enjoy Fall be Kind even more. Though i do like the mini album feel it has with its 5 song length

hopping on the fbk love train - i remember being in my dorm at university when i got a text from my buddy that it was released. i hit a bowl and put the headphones on. i hadn't familiarized myself with any of the tracks (wasn't into the boot scene at all then) so hearing Graze's opening bars blew my lid off and the ride thru the whole ep was a thing of beauty.
it really is, to me, their strongest EP outing. the songs are just so good.

lol people expressing opinions.
And yes I think that feels has a reputation as the sort of thing that you have to be a true Anco fan to like. SJ appeals to a wider audience, songs like bees and daffy duck are very hard for people who aren't super into anco to digest and accept. Feels is the sort of album that people may say is their favorite just to be able to say that feels is their favorite album. They may like the idea of feels more than the actual music on the album. I love feels, but SJ is just my favorite. It's sort of like people saying their favorite beatles member is ringo because paul or john are always people's favorites. Ya feels?
thats kinda weird.
feels has been the best animal collective album for me since forever. it was also the first one i listened to. i get that bees and daffy duck can be hard to swallow, but i truly believe that if you dont find yourself getting super excited when listening to words, turn into something, the purple bottle or even loch raven, you're kind of dead inside.

Yeah, I guess you're right. That's weird.
But the list as a whole "feels right."
Shit, no it doesn't. I forgot YOUNG PRAYER, how the fuck could I do that? That's my shit. That has to go
Oh jeez.

I also like this adjustment because it totally removes MPP from my list, and I like a couple of songs on that record but I honestly never listen to it anymore.
Honestly, this is just about how often I listen to these records, too. Except I definitely listen to Prospect Hummer more than I sit and experience ODDSAC, which I do even more than I ever listen to Campfire Songs all the way through. Which is almost never.
So, have you experienced ODDSAC and just don't like it? I use it as writing music, like in the background when I'm just typing out a bunch of words for practice or meditation or whatever.
I think my list was maybe impacted by the absolute absence of Centipede Hz, which despite my absolute joy over "Amanita" is still not sticking to my ear very well. This weekend shall determine if I can find a way in.
I mean, each of the ten on my list sorta have a set and setting that determines when/if I listen to them. I'm not gonna put on ODDSAC and smoke doobies with my stuffed-shirt academic older brother, but I'd be happy to put on Strawberry Jam while we play chess or whatever.
