i would like to echo others' thanks to the members of animal collective for all the wonderful content they've given us this year. i don't understand the entitlement of some of the posters here... they could have just stopped making music, but instead, we're getting a new album--and soon! since when are artists required to entertain fans with new content every second until an album release? isn't it enough that the boys have made us 14 new songs that we get to hear imminently?
yeah, OPN's latest rollout was super awesome, but the vast majority of albums don't have an entire mythology invented to go along with them, and we certainly shouldn't expect them to.

I know moondog is discussed a lot in the music that sounds like animal collective thread but I think that moondog's influence is essential to the newer stuff on painting with. Especially Hocus Pocus, it's really rhythmic and mesmerizing. I feel like Floridada takes the ideas of moondog, the over-layered vocals, and alters it slightly by having each consecutive vocal have a different lyric rather than just repeating the same thing over and over again. The one thing I fear with Painting With is that it will fall to the same trap as a lot of moondog songs, where there is a really interesting established rhythm but it doesn't really go anywhere and then it just ends. It's easy to establish what a song is in 2-4 minutes but you can really only show what a song can be by expanding it to 6-8 minutes, hopefully they were able to keep their songs short while retaining their potency. Or perhaps, their short length will make them even more potent and concentrated.

Interesting.....,
I don't think i'd say the lp is very moondog , but i'm sure he's an influence sumwhere
I'd say the majority of Moondog stuff is instrumental too......no ?
i dont know i can pin down one specific style - that guy was w i d e
And uncommercial ? ....
......Check out how often ´pastoral' has been synced for advertising - i know in the UK its been juiced .....sublime piece of music .....
Up there with carl orff and his gassenhauer vibes .....
......pastoral reminds me of Tropic of Cancer....

I don't think it's going to happen. Plus it appears to be only 128. I'm no audiophile so it doesn't bother me but I'm sure most of you would like to hear this in the best quality. Can't wait to hold the actual LP in my hands!

I am an audiophile but 128 won't bother me when it's playing through my headphones or car speakers. Whatever.

I can pretty much guarantee the files you're talking about are fake if they're the ones from lafabricadecolores on soulseek . The same "freebird" has been going around there for a few days from different users, it was fake and these file sizes are exactly the same.

its part of the joy of a release cycle. slowly burrowing thru the layers of quality distortion... bootlegs/cell phone airport recordings to amazon samples to a 128 freebird and then finally.... at last... pristine 320/180 gram vinyl of crystalline quality... pouring warm syrup into my ears forever.. and ill imbibe sweet sleep bringing lethe until the end of my days

If we get a low quality freebird I'm going to compare the freebird version of FloriDada with the one we have now. If the freebird version is noticeably a lot worse, then I won't listen to the rest of the album.

If it freebirds at 128, we're home and dry. Let me dumb it down for ya:
I don't know if any of you guys know this but I've kind of dabbled in music making and DJing/sound design over the years. Basically, I've used this software called Cool Edit Pro 2 which I got from a friend, he's been in a few bands and stuff, he once played at a show in Ghana and had a song on the radio there, his brother was mates with a local DJ, ended up marrying a girl from there. He showed me this tip which pretty much changed my music listening forever. Just open the file in CEP2 and then Save As 'FLAC' and you've got a file twenty times the size. Result.
If anyone gets this rip, please just send it over to me and I'll do the deed and share it with anyone who sends me a pm. I'd say give it a go yourself on Cool Edit Pro 2 but I can't even tell you how to get hold of it, even less explain how to use it, you'd probably end up with a 64kpbs hard drive if you're not careful.

Does anybody here have access to whatcd? Things always seem to freebird there first, it would be reported on hasitleaked if it does but it's always a bittersweet freebird. Btw it has not been reported yet.

If it does freebird (I hope not) I hope that the boys respond with a stream shortly afterwards so listen without feeling guilty. I really appreciated hearing centipede legit through stream instead of freebirded version.

I can feel that feels, but having pre-ordered it I don't feel guilty listening to the freebird, like when depression cherry freebirded months in advance I had already preordered it months before the freebird, so I felt like hey, I gave my money, i'm going to own the album, why does it matter if i wait to listen to an album I'm super stoked for or listen to it now.

I don't think there'll ever be a last one. They will keep making music together in some form or another. It's not like they'll get tired of making music. If Avey + Panda = Animal Collective then all other permutations are Animal Collective or related releases
